Skip was so great on first take 🤣🤣🤣
"Oh look, Blake can fly" Skip you are a Legend!
Seems like Skip was actually right for once
Funny thing is, this was mostly true when Skip's comments were made. And I like Blake Griffin... Now. His game has improved and he has a jump shot. He can play offense and defense. Back then, he was like Samurai Jack. He could jump really high. Still, looking forward to what this season is going to look like.
Skip was right once again
Skip was right lowkey
Kevin Love was wayy better than Blake in his prime. Prime K love was nasty
Skip was 100% right
I think skip was on to something
Skip was completely right, not saying he is a bad player but he never went anywhere and is now in the worst place he could be. His athleticism was wasted and the dunks caught up to him with injuries.
While Love can be hyped too, he can be very under appreciated sometimes. Unlike Griffin, he can actually do things on his own, like scoring and putting an effort on the defensive end, although Griffin and Love are not defensive powerhouses.
My problem with Griffin is the hype... His dunks are awesome, don't get me wrong, but he averages 20ppg right? You take 6pts off dunks, and he'd be averaging a pedestrian 14ppg. If he can improve, which should happen, I'll gladly watch him play.
This didn't age well
He was great for a while but he just doesn't have what he used to be in terms of athleticism
BLAKE IS WAY BETTER THAN KEVIN LOVE!!!!!
Really
lol that's pretty funny
what's funny?
time has proven that blake is waaaaaaaaaay beyond kevin love as a complete player.....he was 3rd in mvp voting last year or two ago...
Obviously, Love is a shooter.
LET_THE_ TRUTH_BE_TOLD lmao idiot. delete this
Definetly, I think a guy a pretty underrated guy is Marc Gasol, he's very young and can be a very talented big man both offensively and defensively
I've been watching clippers games and Blake Griffins really improved on free throws, actually I seem games where he wouldn't miss any actually
Blake has improved so much since this topic it's unbelievable.
Jack J 😂😂😂😂😂😂 really?
🤣🤣🤣
Blake is a small forward, i mean just look at his skill set, ball-handling skills, rebounding, decent passer, decent mid-range jumper.
You know, he's not bad. But when you start to look into the skillsets of other PF's,like Duncan or Gasol or Aldridge, Blake definetely leaves a lot to be desired.
Damn i hope Skip is regretting these words!
kevin love is all around a good player
I wish they would talk about this topic again right now
he did average 21 points and 12 boards in his rookie year, if he adds defense to his game and toughness(has the body and athleticism to do so) while adding a jump shot he would be the best power forward of the game but right now he is just an all-star who has amazing dunks but no D kinda like the power forward version of Vice carter (except Vince Carter did develop a sweet jumper)
Looking back now Blake is a good free throw shooter, now has developed a great mid range shot
Dillon Lyons no he isn’t
And still overhyped
First time I ever agreed with Skip, but he's improving and will live up to hype eventually. He's not deserving of the hype yet.
2017 skip is right
but not one of the PFs you mentioned ever had the athleticism that Blake has, so it depends on how you look at it. Although he cant just pop into the post and break you down all game like Duncan or hit spot up mid range jumpers like Gasol, Blake is a freak athlete that still is very young and has room to learn how to post up and improve his jumper.
I like Blake, but he needs to improve in a variety of areas, or he's going to become very frustrated when he can't dunk well anymore and people start criticizing him for not winning big games.
I hope Blake sees this and will use it as motivation...that's all I'm gonna say about it...
idk if id go as far as role player, i think hes a number 2 option for a team if sorrounded by the right players and hes still young so he might complete his game with time...but i really dont like his attitude though and the way the league treats him better than other players
For Blake to average 22 and 12 for his career despite not having an offensive game is impressive, I must admit
and believe me he worked to get that size just as much as Reggie worked on his shot. he's naturally 6'8 but he wasn't born with those muscles. plus he has footwork can handle the ball. is an amazing passer and despite his great size can haul 250 pounds 40 inches in the air. if he was smaller he probably wouldn't be a star in the league but he'd definitely be a good starting point guard somewhere.
i didnt see the game but i think he called him a flopper
i was partially basing mine of last year and dirk didnt have a "dirk" year so i didnt have higher and aldridge had a underrated year
Blake is a great player and he isnt over hyped because no1 says hes the best PF ever or best player but this guy has only been in the leauge for 2 years and averages 20-10 thats amazing and the kid is still working on his jumpshot and defense so in about 5 years hes gunna be on MVP level around that time
When I watch them argue..here's what happens. When Stephen A talks I'm like "Goddamn he's right." then Skip talks and I'm like "Goddamn he's right." And i leave with no more knowledge than what I came in with.
Gasol isn't "very young", but his upside is incredible. If he had a bigger role for on Memphis, he could be average 18ppg like his brother Pau.
50s and 60s legends are godfathers. They were ahead of their time and developed the game. I can guarantee you oscar won't score triple doubles playing in the 80s and 90s. Contact was still there. not like today and no hand checks and 3 second rules and hacking in the 4th. Yes there is a 3 point line and oscar used to pull up fade aways from the 3 like a kevin durant would. Big O would still be dominant in ANY era dont get me wrong. but no triple double seasons. Neither would wilt average 22 rb.
Sorry, in the beginning you were correct about good shooter and great rebound.......but his defense is horrible.
I rather have Chris bosh or Dirk as better "overall" player...heck maybe Zbo
Yes indeed he would fit well with the Magic or the Heat, because they have center issues
I usually go by Position when comparing GOATs. But My all time favorite and best PG is Oscar. I feel the same way. Those two are a coin flip to me, but Oscar does not have the drive and love for the game that you saw day in and day out like Mike had if you ever saw interviews of Oscar. This is why Mike is the GOAT.
Exactly what I mean. My point is the greats are greats because they can be put in any era and dominate. Wilt and Shaq are the most dominant Centers. Wilt would destroy in today's rules. Put him in the 80s and 90s where there were actually decent centers then it would be a challenge. Big O and Jordan would have scored 40+ on each other every night. They would try to out do each other and because they have such a name on each team they would keep getting touches. Russell is the ultimate team playr
Beckham is one of the greatest English players of all time.
How do they compare?
Aldridge is a pretty athletic and strong guy. He was tops in the league last season (if I recall correctly) in dunks made.
Also, Duncan is not athletic anymore, but he used to be. Not the high flyer kind, but boy were you in trouble if he ever posted you up.
yeah I am going by stats but you have to think, the eras these two played in were different. i only saw footage of the big O but never a full game. Michael is the greatest because of what he did on and off the court. he was also assisted in the rise in media. Oscar didn't have that. MJ did charities and everything but we don't know what Oscar did. and actually more people are saying kobe is better than jordan which infuriates me because they don't know what jordan did.
i dont even have griffin in my top 5 power forwards
Tim Duncan? Keving Love? LaMarcus Aldridge? and damn cannot forget the White Mambe, Brian Scalabrine!
What was BG's actual potential?
Clippers never made the WCF or won a championship.
Plus, when he finally became a complete player in Detriot, most of his athleticism was gone by then🤷♂️
well its a matter of perspective, if you look at him as a superstar who can provide stats and highlights hes not overrated, but if your looking for a player to get you a title or rank him among the very best players in the nba hes definately not your guy, i think hes a carmelo type player, hes a superstar, but hes FAR from a complete player and needs a leader besides him to really win...
do u define buying a team as signing players to minimum contracts because thats what they're doing... Im not sure what you mean... they signed James and Bosh two years ago.. they havent and cant add another super star....
haha. True. But he is a few years from his prime. He is still growing. A new attitude and a more consistent jump shot is doable in 2-3 years.
He's a consistent 20-10 player and gives you electrifying dunks that provide momentum for his team. He's not overrated.
hes not a great defender but hes got insane offense and insane rebounder still a superstar
Stephen A. once again, explained things beautifully. Totally agree with him
1.Kevin Love
2. Lamarcus Aldridge
3. Dirk Nowitzki
4. Pau Gasol
5. Amare Stoudemire
6. Kevin Garnett
7. Zach Randolph
8. Chris Bosh
9. Blake Griffin
10. Tim Duncan
KevinLove over Garnett? NO WAY! Unlike Love, KG actually has a dominant post game which his team heavily relies on. and on top of that, Garnett is still one of the best defensive pf`s in the game, a list where love is no where to be seen.
With his jumping ability and size why isn't he averaging around 13 rebounds and 2 blocks a game? Thats my biggest concern with him.
O shit, worded that wrong. I rarely watch sportscenter and shit, so i just assumed that people rarely talked about him because he's putting up average numbers this season, then i watched some nba videos....
One thing I have noticed, is that all those who are considered legends changed the game in some sort of way.Wilt changed freethrows and rebounds. Bill Russell changed the post. The Big O changed the passing game, scoring, and the game itself. MJ forced stern to make all the refs pussies and all the players poor and "safe".
Funny how when stephen starts talking, you hear a hip hop beat in the background
Idk if he's overrated, since most people only expect highlights from him. He does live up to that standard, plus he's a pretty good player.
Kevin Love added those by his 3rd year. Where's Blake in his 3rd year? Averaging 17 points 8 rebounds
I agree with skip. The question was is he over-hyped. Not if hes gonna get better or is a key component.
i think that the pf I want on my team is pau
i'd go with Blake any day unbelievable athlete crazy dunks plus better yet as CP said it he's only getting better so watch that space. word up
Yeah, but there's this funny thing about dunking, you see the shots tend to go in. At the end of the day he's still giving you 21 points and 11 rebounds. I don't see the problem with that. That's what I expect of my power forward.
Wilt Big O and Russell are Godfathers of a game.. they are beyond legacy... to me..
They bought them both in the 2007 off-season. KG was a 10 time all star, Ray was a 6 time all star and Pierce was a 5 time all star. Why would the Heat want to build up rookies? They already have a prime team in its peak, so what would be the point in bringing in some second round draft scrub. Heat management knows that when LeBron, Dwade and Bosh are gone they're gonna have to rebuild. When that time comes they will get to it. End of story.
numbers matter but their not all that matters, he is limited offensively, not a good freethrow shooter
imo
1. Kevin Love (and its not close)
2. Lamarcus Aldridge
3. Chris Bosh
4. Pau Gasol
5. Dirk Nowitzki
this list is subjected to change but thats how i feel
i would take any of these 5 over griffin
Yes, but having his minutes reduced by 6 per game compared to his rookie season (31.9/38 = 16% less minutes) doesn't correlate to 3.7 less rebounds per game (8.4/12.1 = 31% less rebounds)
scott brooks needs to develop westbrook
as a clipper-fan, i hope he will become what most people think he should be already, one of the best players at his position, if not the best,
and tbh, he is improving every year, just not as fast as i would love he was
True
Skip is right on point.
Blake griffin also plays with a top 3 point guard, and a phenominal bench. He is surrounded by fantastic players. Love has rubio, and kirelinko, thats it
i agree
if hes overrated its because he is lacking in defense and his ft could improve a little. but 67% is acceptable for a young pf. but 18 4 assists 9 rebounds and 1.4 steals is pretty good for a very young player
stephen a signature saying:Hes no scrub
He's not 'overhyped' because noone is saying he's gonna be the next Michael Jordan. People give him credit for his dunks and rightly do so. He's a good player tho can't deny that, having 2 20/10 seasons after being inured for a year as a rookie is quite an achievement. He's got the athleticism, he's got a decent offensive post game already and that's the talent he has. Everything else, including free throws and jump shots can be learned through practicing, so let's give him some more seasons.
I agree.
Blake's only in his 2nd year people...1st year doesn't count because he was injured and he lost a year of development. Once he develops a jump shot and gets his FT percentage up to about 70%, he'll be fine
I dont like when people hinge a players entire game on can you win a championship building around him. There are so many things that should be considered. By that logic- Karl malone wasnt a superstar??... In blakes case though- I dont think a team with him being the hands down best player is even a playoff team.
Blake Griffin isn't overrated but I believe that Kevin Love is the best overall PF than Griffin. Blake is highlight material but to me it doesn't produce victories unlike Love he averages a double double and can shoot 3's (remember the game winner). I'm from Minnesota and I will tell you this if Love went to the Lakers, Heat, Bulls, Knicks, Thunder or Spurs then either those teams who have Love can really make big use out of him.
In my opinion, Griffin is not overrated but he is overhyped.
I still can't believe your saying blake griffin doesn't dunk? Your just looking at 2 dunks, kevin love is just as hyped. He was 3rd or 4th in MVP voting, your right about grizzles series but the grizzles are one of the best big boy teams in the nba, so i don't blame him for struggling
well his health is saying 36 at best. assists won't come because he doesn't feed the post often. even if d12 comes it won't help because bynum and howard played about the same, except d12 is the scorer for his team. like i said it's all a tie to me. you can't say anyone's the greatest really. the big O, MJ, Wilt, Bill Russel, etc. were all legends. so really whos legacy is greater than whos?
I totally agree, I don't think he's an elite talent or a superstar. He's a solid PF who will give you some highlights. He's a role player, not a team leader or #1 guy.
Not many PFs got 20/10 in both of their first two seasons. Also, Blake Griffin averages more assists than Kevin Durant. Raw player but a lot of potential.
i never agree that much with skip but i couldnt agree with him more. clippers is not blake's team it is cris pauls team the minute he moved to clippers.
Solid is a different thing then great tho
Over a year on from this vid, Blake Griffen has improved. But he is still way too overhyped. Not overrated, because he is a very good Pf, but over hyped when other PFs like David Lee and Lamarcus Aldridge don't get attention.
Not really. When do you hear people talk about Kevin Love? He is completely underrated
I was a Lebron hater.. before on a cavs i LOOOOOOOOOOOVED him. got his jerseys.. etc etc.. I loved him his first year on Miami... Not a cavs fan.. Actually ironically im a celts fan.. After he failed miserable i gave him tough love.. He has won his championship.. My love and praise for him opens up again. Hopefully he will back to back this MVP award and three peat it.. I think Lebron should have won the year Rose won too. No one other than Oscar Robertson put those numbers up
amar'e is not overhyped, he gets can shoot the ball really well and he is a great all around player
@RunDMC313 sharing the ball with cp3
lol let's just agree that all of these players mentioned and a few other like Drazen would have killed everyone in the league today.
Once again, I agree with Stephen A.
what are the other 4 that put better numbers than him then?
what did you do average 5 on c team
I have been saying this since Griffin came into the league. He is a highlight reel. A couple of nice dunks and some points but he is not a game changer or franchise player. He goes into the same boat as Vince Carter, Tracy Mccgrady, Richardson, and even Dominique Wilkins. They are great to watch but dont count on them getting you a championship. He has no post game and if they are not running he is not effective. The lost to San Antonio Spurs proves that. The heart of the Clippers is CP3.
im saying he does dunk but half of his dunks just are just thrown at the rim. Kevin Love deserves the hype. Kevin Love has had 20pt and 20 reb games before. Blake hasnt but he is young though. But yea i do understand why he would post up in the grizzlies series though. because they have Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol. (my favorite big man duo in the nba )
He's doing pretty good now, and people rarely talk about him.
They stopped when he got hurt, but before they talked about him a lot,
