- so now the fun begins. Building another bridge from scratch using the photos collected over the past few weeks get a idea on what it looks like, with some success. and a mishap with the paint that looks...not good. in the end i am happy with the outcome...enjoy
Absolutely loving all your hard work fella I thought I was a good scratch builder but you sir are the “King of Card” as a kid I would accompany my mother on trips home to West Hartlepool and as a young boy fascinated by steam trains I would spend hours sitting on a footbridge over looking the railway and parts of your layout and the “scenes” you have created remind me of my childhood thanks for taking the time to post
Thank you John, some great memories there. that's the main reason behind this layout is the memories that i want to try and bring back. its so easy to forget things now....smashing comment all the best Tony
Your bridge will look fantastic when done. Very clever. It does look fantastic. Wow, great going.
Thank you Rob, i nearly messed it up with the paint job. i am pleased withe way it has turned out. many thanks Tony.
Recently came across your channel.......un bloody believably good.👏🏻
Welcome aboard! Dave. you have a long way to go. to catch up with the recent videos. cheer's for now Tony.
Another great instructive video. Keep them coming!
One Shall try . many thanks Tony
Fantastic job on the bridge Tony.
Really, really looks the part. The colour seems to be just right and the height of the girders seems to be the same.
Great video look forward to seeing to seeing the progress.
Ross.
Thank you Ross, the height was always going to be an issue when building this bridge. but then i put that little black car on the base. and looked back on that old photo. and hey presto it looked right. just had to trim the template down, before going ahead with the build. thanks again for commenting all the best Tony
Hi Tony, I've watched this video several times, the reason being I have purchased eight of the old Hornby overall roofing canopies for the station I'm building. I intend to paint the detail on the outer surfaces but the curves on the inner sides look so empty and bland. I wanted to build into them a structural framework - something that would make them look less 'toylike' and more like models of the real thing. To use plastic I beams and girders would cost me the earth! Being in my seventies now I have to watch the pennies, Remembering this video and how you took flat cardboard and made it look like a metal structure, I tried your technique and adapted it and it works . It isn't exactly prototypical but those empty roofs are beginning to look as if they're built upon metal frames. Thanks Tony.
Hi Alfie. wow that is great that you have adapted an idea you have seen in this video, and made improvements to a hornby roof. you must be pleased with your efforts for you to comment about what you have achieved. thats brilliant well done....thanks you for sharing your achievements thats is why i do these videos...thanks again Tony
What a great looking Bridge Tony

Thank you for the thumbs up. cheer's guys many thanks Tony
@@TONYNORTHEASTERN you are welcome. Again, that bridge is nice and all fo the work you put into it shows.
Hi Tony, I found your channel last week and have been binge viewing your videos, only another 100 videos to go ha, ha. May I say I enjoy your skill and detail work on your buildings etc. what skill you have in making a very good kit, into a 3D living building, that you wish to live in or work in at least. Well done on your layout and more the details you are adding to the layout, and great camera work. Having reached the great age of three score years and ten, I am not fit even to get into the attic, let alone build a layout, but I do have trains in the attic, more my sons sets from the late 1980’s when I built a 8 by 4 board for them, but I can still dream of my own GWR layout ha, ha.
Hi David thank you for stopping by. Binge watching i do not think there is a cure for that. so you can binge away to your heart's content. about building a layout for yourself, make the dream happen it does not need to be to big. even an end to end layout would do. have a think about it. thank you for commenting all the best Tony
Awesome job and video! Thanks for sharing Tony! Cheers Onno.
Hi Onno, your very welcome, all the best Tony
I really do like how you still make things, in a world where so many companies make everything ready to buy & plonk on the layout, that you find bits n bobs to make the things you need; now that is the spirit of modelling that so many seem to be missing these days. Fantastic work on the bridge and layout. Wish I had found your channel earlier, just watched all the colliery videos too.
Thank you for commenting, well it goes to back my days of watching blue peter, remember those. building anything from old bits and pieces. and it works out cheaper. so its a win win with me. the hobbie is so expensive anyway. thanks again have a great day Tony.............great comment
Vary Cool !
Thank You John, all the best Tony
Tony I am amazed how you have created this superb bridge from card. it really looks superb addition to the railway.
Cheer's Liam, thanks again for commenting Tony
A unique bridge. Well done Tony ! The enjoyment of the work of your own hands. It looks so much better than all the 'plastic' stuff around. Cheers & greetings, Filip
Thank You Filip. very true it is a unique bridge. plastics are good but they are often too good. it that makes sense.....thank you again all the best Tony
It's looking great, awesome work.
Cheers from Denmark
Thank You Mikkel. Hope you are having better weather in Denmark..cheer's Tony
@@TONYNORTHEASTERN Weather here is s#@$& all heavy rain and hard winds - perfect train-weather 👍🏻
Another great scratch build Tony ...... way to go ..... looking great 👍🏻
Thank You Fred, How are you buddy. were do you want me to go. lol...take care will be seeing you soon....all the best Tony
A great build and I was relieved when you changed the colour .that 2mm card looked easy to cut, unlike the stuff I have here. Martin.(Dhaka, Bangladesh).
Hi Martin, Thank you for commenting, as soon i started to the bridge i realised that the colour was no good. the card is like a soft board, i might use it for the roof. many thanks Tony
The bridge looks amazing Tony, great research and even better finish!
Thank You Paul. its does pay to do your homework before attempting a scratch building project. thanks again buddy Tony
Hi Tony, just found your site and really interested in your bridge. I am scratch building my home town station roof using the same card to make rafters and purlings in a similar way to you, time consuming, fiddly but rewarding. Incidentally, it is a £1.00 cheaper at £2.99 in the Range store. Great job and presentation. looking forward to catching up with the rest of your videos!
I will have the same issues when i come to do the station roof of south shields but i am planning on using welding Tig rods 1mm diameter and fine brass wire 0.8mm. thank you for the tip on the card. i am sure to catch up on further comments in the future....best wishes Tony. Ps what station are you building and is it still there....
Another great bridge can’t wait to have a go making one.
Thank You Brian, my only advice get as many photos as you can before starting...good luck all the best Tony
Hi Tony very nice ,myself just finish bridge out of thin wood taken ages but rewards at the end kevin philipines
Hi kevin. you have hit it right on the head, its all about the rewards of building something from nothing. all the best Tony
Excellent Job Tony it was must enjoyable and educating following the build . Cheers Kev
Thank You Kev. it was fun to put something together from nothing. instead of kit bashing....all the best Tony
Another well done job Tony , looks first class ...
Cheer's Dave, First Class comment sir. hope all well. all the best Tony

thank You Al. have a great weekend yourself. keep dry and keep safe.........all the best Tony
Another excellent piece of modelling Tony, very well done, the bridge looks fantastic ! The grey colour with the sandstone wash is a good effect.
Very much looking forward to the platform progress.
Andy
High Andy. thank you for your kind words, very much appreciated. ah yes the platforms i am struggling with at the moment. comparing with photos is not as easy i had thought it would be. but it is work in progress. many thanks again Tony
Another great project Tony, and looking good.....................John.
Thank You John. that's one under my belt god knows many more are to come....Keep Dry and Keep safe, many thanks Tony
Brilliant job with the bridge Tony. Who would have thoght it was made of card, it's surprising how robust it now looks by adding all the strengthning pieces.
Cheers
Geoff
Thank You Geoff. the supports in the photo are about 4 feet thick by 8 feet wide and go straight into the ground of the bridge. and card trim was only added to the base for stability. also the bridge also had to scaled down a bit as the span is slightly narrow than the real one. but yes it is a robust structure. it is pleasing to the eye to look at. now we get into the interesting bit the platforms. thank again best wishes Tony
Wow Tony, that is awesome....cheers, Chris
Thank you Chris. it turned out alright in the end. all the best Tony
Superb work on the bridge Tony, as I said previously your scratch building skills are excellent.
Michael
Thank you Michael, your to kind sir....have a great weekend. keep dry and keep safe... best wishes Tony
looks excellent tony
brilliant job as always coming along nicely
yours
paul
Thank You Paul, it came good in the end i nearly cocked up the paint job. i am happy with the result, time to move on to platforms, ballasting, then fixing the bridge permanently, many thanks for commenting...Tony
Again another cracking build tony
Bridge looks awsome
Cheer's Buddy. i must admit it does look good. nearly cocked it up a couple of times. all the best Tony
Great build, and gorgeous bridge!
thank you Phil. so far i think its the best scratch built bridge to date. as you know i dont like blowing my own trumpet. but yes it turned out good. there is still a couple of things that does not quite look right to the photo. many thanks Tony
AA award Tony Awesome and Amazing build mate Cheers Steve
Thank You Steve, thanks again for kind words have a great day all the best Tony
Hi Tony off to Ilkeston model railway exhibition to spend some money today.
ouch. it could get expensive lol....
Hi Tony back home Emory handed and wallet intact, not a lot there I was looking for some more track but nothing to buy mate . Wife was amazed I was empty handed but funds stashed for next time lol.
Fantastic job Tony, really looks the part mate, another keeper for my top tips scrapbook - well done! I am very envious of those little block weights as well, they must be very useful
Cheer's Buddy. you must have a big scrap book by now. those ballast weights are useful. but not heavy enough sometimes. have a great day all the best Tony
Brilliant work!
Thank You, for giving a Jazzy vibe all the best Tony
It would of course, be great as a railway bridge too. Inspirational as usual 😃👍.
Really enjoyed that video the hole scene looks amazing
Thank you Tony. it was fun making it. just almost got the paint job all wrong. there is still a few bits to do to get it right. thank you for commenting. Tony

i am a bit lost myself what. where in the video did i mention that. Help...
Well done Tony, great copy of the photo. - Kevin
Thank you Kevin, your right it is a great copy. but i think i could have done it better though, that's me i am never satisfied i guess. thank you for commenting very much appreciated...cheer's Tony

Hi Adi, i was once a chippie many years back. making pine furniture in Pelaw in the north east. in the good old days. i struggled with this build mainly the colour but it turned out OK. i am good buddy hope you are well. and keeping dry and safe, all the best Tony
@@TONYNORTHEASTERN well am flat bound cuz of my feet 😭
But I do have a loco that was built near you on the way hope it ok I've heard some horror stories of it
Hope mine OK 🤞
Keep safe arp
Hi, how do you calculate your scale sizes, is there a formula you use or is it by approx. size from the photos ?
Hi Rob, now that's a tricky comment, i guess i worked it out with what i had in the way of space. i had noticed the concrete block at either end of the bridge is secured to the ground just a little way past the buttresses. i had the bridge base first measure gap between the two buttresses and mark that on the base. now that then becomes the inner part of the bridge. so then looking at the photo there are 8 supports space them between the buttresses. the height was the only thing i had an issue with. i had to do it twice to get it to look right. getting things to scale is not easy that's what i am finding out now with the platforms. study the photos. is my only is my advice you. make up a template and offer it up. that is normally a good indication if you are getting it right. god knows how many times i looked at that bridge. get any many photos of the topic as possible. all the best great comment............Tony
@@TONYNORTHEASTERN Hi Tony, I do not know how you are with a computer but there is a program called "Tracker" which allows you to import a picture file.If you already know for sure at least one real measurement then when set up you can measure all the dimensions accurately with just a mouse movement.t physlets.org/tracker/.
what is the car around 15:00 ?
Hi Robert, the car is a Vauxhall 1948 Ten-four HIY. made by classix pocket bond EM76890. cheer's Tony
