Highlander is definitely one of my great guilty pleasure movies. There’s nothing more enjoyable than showing it to someone for the first time and watching their “What the hell am I watching” reaction.

Highlander was a good movie and so were some of the other movies in the series but I really liked the TV series. It was always nice to watch someone chop off someone else's head on a Saturday afternoon. I think I will watch Highlander again as I have it on VHS.

That review of Between Friends or whatever is one of my favourites.
I love when Ebert is explaining the idiot plot surrounding the names and he forgets what the girlfriend calls him so he just says Ted. Then Siskel who has utter disdain for the movie says "Who cares" and they both agree getting his name right isn't even important lol.

Biggest drop the ball from these two ever. You can see it's a case of 2 old men not getting what kids like because they haven't even mentioned Queen soundtrack (probably didn't even knew who Freddie is). I expected it from Siskel, but Ebert was an unpleasant surprise here. His instincts were always a bit more into inventive stuff while Siskel was stuck in the 50s his whole life.

I did not say terrible, I said bad. Its not the only bad movie that has entertainment value for its fans. See Roadhouse. Neither are great films. They are films that work for the right audience. It would have been easy to improve Highlander, replace Lambert.
Highlander 2 is what is terrible with no redeeming value. Even Virginia Madsen failed to transcend its terrible script. The best thing I can say for that is that some of the reviews are vastly more entertaining than the film. I have seen all 3 versions of it despite that. I just kept hoping despite knowing that nothing could fix it.
Try this search to see a funny video on Highlander 2. Not sure if its funny enough to put up with watching it if you have not already seen it.

I hope they didn't see Highlander II! I thought was amazing when it was released in '86, I also saw Ferris Bueller's Day Off the same day, so I was on a real celluloid high. Unfortunately on DVD, Highlander didn't have the style that it used to, and it even steals a shot from Hitchcock's Strangers On A Train. The movie doesn't have the lasting appeal of Ferris Bueller, but obviously, they're completely different films. I still like the parts with Sean Connery, though, and it was directed by a fellow Australian, Russell Mulcahy, who before this, made the Outback thriller, Razorback.

_Highlander_ plays _terribly_ today. so, SO corny. unbelievable.
if you can, be sure to seek out the THEATRICAL version of _Highander 2: The Quickening._ they tried to rob us (and history) by only releasing a vastly different Director's Cut on video.
it's one of the most baffling, insane movies ever made. for example, the sequel reveals that the Highlanders are aliens from another planet. that's gone in the Director's Cut. total bullshit. if you made a bad movie, at least have the balls to let us SEE it. the Director's Cut is terrible (of course), but BORINGLY terrible.

Hmm I thought the Highlander is an awesome movie. It has it flaws in the acting on Lambert but other than that it was awesome

Highlander is frequently awful and that accent is a perfect example.
I still like it. The sequel is terrible in every way. All the awful and none of the good. The TV series is better as the lead is vastly better. Lambert is OK is just bad.

    Yup...spawned 4 sequels and 2 tv series...yup terrible

Highlander was the shit. These dudes were such snobs sometimes. A Room With a View is cinematic chloroform.

I'm sorry everyone...Christopher Lambert is a pretty poor actor. Hard to believe in any role, even Tarzan. Clancy and Sean made highlander work.

I know you non Highlander fans out there liked this review, but you have to admit its like your lives, soul less lol. You get this narcissist banter all the time now on TV nowadays.
