  • This is a step by step guide on how to export your cat from Tunisia to the UK, EU, USA or even Canada. Hundreds of people have asked me for this video on various social media channels, because a lot of people in Tunisia adopt Tunisian street cats while living in Tunis and then want to take the cat with them when they leave the country! I did exactly this, adopting my Tunisian street cat (9atousa) Moon in March 2020 during the lockdown in Tunis. I then exported her to the UK in September 2022, where she is now living happily with my mother!
    We discuss how long it takes, how much it will cost, what the exact process is (including how to get all the paperwork), the different export routes you can use and then some of the differences between exporting your cat to the UK vs the EU vs the USA vs Canada. I also provide recommendations for a vet in Tunis and a fixer in Tunis who can help you with this process if it all sounds a bit complicated!

      Glad it's going to help you! Moon is definitely missing the sunshine, but the house is warm, she has a lot more green space to explore and UK summers are great for cats. Being a British 9atousa isn't too bad!

      If you have the funds to sort this out yourselves, I'd suggest reaching out to Omar at Tunisia Expat Assistance. He's been through the animal export process before and can help: facebook.com/tunexpatassist
      If you would like help from a charity, speak to Mission Pawwsible. They do excellent work in Tunisia rescuing, rehousing and exporting cats and dogs: facebook.com/missionpaws

    Hello! Thank you for the video! Quick question, how do I complete the pet health certificates for EU and UK. Or will the vet do it for me?

    • @ScafidiTravels
      @ScafidiTravels  Před 2 měsíci

      Your vet needs to do it. It's pretty straightforward. They're basically the same template.
      Here's the EU one: food.ec.europa.eu/animals/movement-pets/eu-legislation/non-commercial-movement-non-eu-countries_en
      Here's the UK one: www.gov.uk/government/publications/pet-travel-apply-for-a-gb-pet-health-certificate

    Hey!
    My partner and I fell in love with a Tunisian cat when we were feeding the cats everyday at the marina. She lives outside the national guard and they were very friendly people, even brining us cakes after day four :)! We are now back in east anglia and are thinking how we could adopt her. Do you know any companies who would help to keep the cat for the four months whilst we get this ready!? 👌🏻😊

      You should speak to Mission Pawssible in Tunis. They might be able to rescue it and get it fostered if you agreed to take it eventually: facebook.com/missionpaws/

    Thanks for taking the time to explain this tedious process
    My wife and I are immigrating to Canada soon and we plan on taking our 2 cats with us.
    Question : do I have to cover the EU papers for layovers? There is no direct flights from Tunisia to Canada and we might need to stop in France or Germany.

    • @ScafidiTravels
      @ScafidiTravels  Před rokem +1

      From my limited understanding of the EU rules, you'll need a "Transit Health Certificate" if you transit your cats through the EU, which is basically the same process as getting the paperwork in this video. So you may as well sort it all out as if you were importing to the EU and avoid a potential headache!
      However, I would strongly recommend contacting one of the Tunisian vets recommended in this video and asking them. They will have more recent experience of this transit situation than I do!

    How about taking the cat from uk to Tunis for a holiday and bring them back within like a month max?

    • @ScafidiTravels
      @ScafidiTravels  Před rokem

      This sounds kinda stressful for the cat, and also you'd have to go through the same Tunisian bureaucracy to export the cat: trip to the Ministry of Agriculture, ensure all vaccines are less than one year old, letter of good health etc. Not sure if the UK would treat the import any different either. Does not seem worth it to me!

  • @cheyennefrohlich1502
    @cheyennefrohlich1502 Před rokem +1

    Question: Was the rabies blood test required for the Tunisian export permit or only for the UK import?

    • @ScafidiTravels
      @ScafidiTravels  Před rokem +1

      The Tunisian authorities wanted to see the letter from the vet confirming the animal was healthy, and to see the vaccination record. My vet said they can be very particular about the vaccines being less than 1 year old (including the rabies one). But no, I don't think they require the rabies antibody test. Might be worth checking with Omar over at Tunisia Expat Assistance though, as the rules down at the Commissariat Régional au Développement Agricole can be a bit arbitrary depending on who you get that day...

    • @cheyennefrohlich1502
      @cheyennefrohlich1502 Před rokem

      @@ScafidiTravels Thanks! That's what I suspected. It's typical to only require a rabies vaccine within one year. With the exception of EU/UK/Island countries.

      @@ssmm2091 I think the EU has standardised regulations for bringing in cats. They are all obliged to recognise the EU pet passport, or the EU animal health certificate.
