The weathering and the detail work are incredible. This machine looks like it’s had a hardworking life on a Russian airfield, exposed to the elements, but still flying whenever it’s called on. It’s so realistic, if you showed this against a suitable background, I’m not sure I’d be able to tell if it was a model or not. Simply gobsmacked!
Man. I know this is a 2 yr old video but, that is truly a work of art. You are a Master level modeler. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you and thanks for watching :) This was the start of when I was actually happy with the models I produced haha
@@TheInnerNerd Well you definitely turned the corner. Because this was a gorgeous build my friend. Thanks again, and keep the videos coming.
Well sir what can i say...You are a master craftsman!!!Thank you for the excellent upload!
So I've noticed a kind of trend with the weathering in a lot of these really good looking models. I dont really have a name for it, so I call it the Bob Ross approach. Happy little grease stains here, or just a hint of happy exhaust stains there. Great quality work! Now off to build my own!
That looks incredible ..... the paint and weathering are on point....no words!!!
Wow. Brilliant work. Thanks for sharing!
my eyes are bleeding ..... so much detail work. I cant understand it all but its beautiful work .Thanks
Truly enjoyed watching this video. Your videos are giving me a reason to take a break from building cars.
Every model you built are amazing, but this one is my personal favourite.
What a great job. I saw some new techniques to try. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, another Nerd-A-Licious build. Not only in the quality of the build but in the totality of your videos. The framing of each shot, and scene continuity. Also the editing and background music.
Pretty sweet. Def like the black base method over the pre/post shading panel lines
Perfect work!
Gorgeous model done by a Master!
So beautifullll. Good paint, detail, and assembly. 🖤
Your attention to detail is astounding, love watching your videos....Totally amazing✌️✌️
Really beautiful work! Your a so skilled at creating realistic looking weathered metal on the surfaces. I especially like when you use the rock salt. Clever.
Amazing build, I'm in awe
Excellent job!! Just finished a AMK 31 myself.
That is one fine specimen Sir! I love all your video builds and can't wait for the next one.
good job it looks amazing. thank you for posting
Outstanding,Thanks for making this video
Outstanding technique!
My god your work is fantastic. Great scratch building and, excellent masking and painting and awesome weathering. What a model. 👍🏻
WOW! This is incredible .
Brilliant. Excellent finish.
Thank you hope you enjoyed the final wrap up of this one! Onto smaller models for a while now 😅
Brilliant job on this build. The detail is life like...awesome work and it really shows...
Well done, love the 31.
Stunning work👍
Brilliant & Stunning !
It looks great!
Great looking model mate, quality work 😉👍
I'm 59 and still building all types of 80,s 90,s current jettz. I have a butt load of Dragon 1/144 scale in boxes, and a hundred jets. Fighters and weapons.
awesome video.... awesome soundtrack.
The great use of salt weathering here may just be the motivation I needed to get on and finish my Hasegawa F-22A Raptor. It's been so long since I did the base colour scheme I had forgotten my plans for the weathering (yes even F-22s get worn down) but I've got a lot of fun stuff planned now. Thanks, and great work!
Crazy to think that the F-22s first flight was 1997, and the last bird off the assembly line was 2011.
Yep, the newest bird in the fleet is 9 years old already!
I am just building Zvezda 1:72 , your video is a great help ! Thanks for sharing .😍😍
Really good and professional mate
Stunning !
nicely done!
Beautiful, thank you.
Like the 'semi-abandoned' look. Brave thing to try, you've come a l-o-n-g way since the Airfix 109E !!
Best from NZ.
Most detailed mig31 l have ever seen. You can darken the engine air intakes to mimic the shade and shadows due to its large air intakes
Me sorprendió!!
Un trabajo excelente!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏
Great Work
A remarkable work for a striking result of realism. I hope someday we will see a French plane in one of your videos. Thank you for sharing your passion.
The Dewoitine D 520 during World War II. Mystery 2, Super Mystery 4. The Mirage 3 will be the winner of the 6 day war, and its Israeli version IAI Kfir. The Jaguar (French-British). The Mirage F1, the Mirage 4 N, the Etendard, the Mirage 2000 and finally the Rafale. If you search on the web, you will find other strange planes like the North 2501 in other. There are also helicopters, Frelon, Super Frelon, Puma, Super Puma, Tigre, Caracal, Lama, Gazelle Alouette etc ... I confess that I have a preference for the Mirage 2000C and the Rafale Marine and its version two-seater. It's up to you to make your choice ...
@@TheInnerNerd Rafale or one of the Mirage series are the most iconically French aircraft. The Jaguar isn't bad, but oddly enough I associate it more with the British than the French.
Extraordinario trabajo
A work of art. Very well done
Thank you! I hope you enjoyed the paint layering to get the final weathering look 👍
Your one awesome artist.
Superb!
I like the use of the salt. It is something I have seen rarely and want to try now.
Just make sure you use salt with a flaky texture like sea salt or rock salt, not normal fine crystal table salt.
@@soupfork2105 Thats right, also the random texture of the salt from grinder will give you a better result. Make sure you rinse off the model thoroughly as salt marks can remain on the model if not and become permanent when you pick them in with a gloss coat ready for vanishing
Impressed
Amazing
BEST WORKS FRIEND
magnificient beast! :)
Just wow
Great job. I just want to point out that the medium gray dielectric pannels on the tail are not the same left and right. On the right side, only the top is medium gray.
Bravo.
Bravo.
Excelent
Very nice indeed :)
Nice
wow!
Yes this kit is not as good as the one from AMK apparently. If I'd have known I would have definately gone for that one over this Hobby Boss kit. Thanks for watching :)
Your work is amazing and I've subscribed. I'm starting again after 30 years. Regarding the nozzles and your use of colors (black to steel to copper...), I couldn't tell from the video, but you did both inside and outside the same amount?
Thank you! Yes I used the same procedure for the inside and outside the nozzles
Ficam muito giros mas acha santa paciência!
Cool painting :) But the radar screen was green. There's a kinescope with a green luminophor
It is green, the decal thats placed over the part is coloured a greeny-blue
Will sacrifice my First born if DCS ever gets around to releasing this. (But they won't :()
The salt acts as a mask for the paint layer below. When another layer is sprayed over the salt it acts as a mask for the previous layer. Once the slat is removed there are slight tonal differences randomly placed over the surface to replicate the uneven weathering process on upper surfaces of stored aircraft
yep
it's magic
If you trim the front of the top section a tiny bit it will all line up and almost no filler is needed.
Yes I did that as the tabs there create an interference when mating the nose. Seems that it wasn't enough...
Thanks for the excellent video and model! Do you use oils directly on the Tamiya paint or do you seal it with gloss/matt varnish before?
In this video used a matte coat over the paint as I put in decals and used the oils as a weathering process. But you can use the oils directly onto the paint yes it won't do any harm
Nice build. One question. Was there a gap on the nose or did you put the filler to sand down so you knew it would be seamless?
Thanks. At 4:12 you can see that I out filler down the join on the nose so get a seamless fit. Then sanded it down until smooth so the join was invisible
Beautiful job! If you added a photo background to the image it may enhance it even more.
Funny you should say that I was actually trying to get a real backdrop similar to an airfield for the final shots to try and make it look at though it was real
@@TheInnerNerd try the model railroad stores, they usually have several different backdrop posters to choose from.
For oils, are you using just dry cloth or cotton swab? Or do you use a little white spirit ?
Firstly the model is clear coated with clear gloss varnish (I use Mr
Color GX100 in three layers). Next I apply the oil wash and allow to dry
until the oils are dry to the touch. It can be left longer and still
come off if the clear coat is high-shine (polished). Next it to remove
it with a dry paper towel and dry cotton buds to removed the desired
amount of oils. If there are areas that need to be cleaned further then a
white spirit dampened towel or bud will be sufficient to remove the more stubborn
areas of oil. Remember the glossier the clear coat the easier it will
come off. Matte clear coats will grab more oil and be harder to clean
off making the wash more of a filter than panel line accent.
Why did you not re-scribe the panel line you sanded off?
Hello Friend. Very nice video. I like this hobby very much, but here in Brazil it is very expensive. I wanted to import some samples. Maybe spread some brands and represent them. Could you help me get started on this wonderful hobby. Give me some tips. Thank you very much in advance!
Would you recommend the Hobby Boss kit? Been wanting to build a MiG-31. Really nice build!
Not really. The AMK one is supposed to be better all round. Build, accuracy and finish although is more expensive. This Hobby Boss one wasn't the best fit and the landing gear barely strong enough to hold the finished item. Best of luck and thanks for watching :)
I have lead wire and propan burner . i have build some hulls. From scratch!
Incredible work. Only the nozzles are incorrect, came fro the prototype planes.
Thank you. I was slightly confused as the instructions did say those nozzles, but only some of my reference photos showed aircraft with those fitted. In the end I went as the kit instructed to allow viewers to see the kit properly.
Whats the salt used for? Please let me know im just starting to get into modeling and im curious as to what it does
Hello and welcome to modelling! So your question...
Salt is used as a temporary mask for the paint layers. So the base colour is painted (typically the base colour of the plane) The the salt is applied to create a random mask on top of this layer. The the second colour is applied (typically the base colour with added white/black or other colour) to create an ever-slightly different shade to the previous. Once removed, the salt had protected the layer 1st sprayed and reveals a random weathering pattern normally seen on carrier based aircraft such as the F-14 Tomcat or F-18 Hornet. Salt weathering is normally used on the upper surfaces of the wings and spine of the aircraft as this is typically the areas with the largest flat surfaces which salty water can land and evaporate, causing this effect on the real aircraft.
It's important to then spray a third layer of paint to harmonise the two layers together. This should be done with yet another mix of the original colour to create the final surface colour you want to achieve - I normally go Light-Dark-Light with the layering, but this depends on what you're trying to achieve. The final blending layer should be very thin as you don't want to hide all the work you've just done with the salt layers.
I hope this helps and that my channel is useful in other ways as you progress in modelling! If you have any more questions just leave a comment and I'll happily reply
