Some say they’re still there to this day hoping to finish the song
Haha brilliant!
I hope they dont, so i can keep listening forever haha
Haha…so true! If Gary was in charge, which here he certainly is, it would have turned into so much more. Genius playing…not to take anything away from anyone else
Jezus christ, Garry Willis is just an absolute beast. Unfazed, graceful.
Gary has that perfect fusion of jazz and funk. What a monster.
Gary Willis is the most underrated bass playing great of all time.
I'm with you. IMHO he blew the others away.
@@ronviejo4994 he's really great, but just because he overplayed, it doesn't mean he blew the others away, guys like Victor Wooten, Steve Bailey and, Jonh Patitucci, don't need to overplay to show off their skills, everyone knows they're beyond awesome!
Garys always been one of the best in my eyes , sonce i first heard tribal tech
@@uiliamoliveira6348 He's just being Gary, pretty much plain and simple. Not about ego, it's just how he has always played.
Overplay....LOL. Harmonically, Melodicly & rhythmically, he's the most superior player in this video.
Victor Wooten's playing is so grooving and rhythmically inventive. I love it.
We are so blessed somebody recorded this session thank you
Thank you - I was lucky to be at Berklee during this time. This was filmed with a Canon EOS 6D camera and my hands were hurting by the end trying to keep still! Now an iPhone camera or similar would be even easier, in 4K or more as well. And look just as good; likely better.
When Doug started soloing, everybody else just seemed confused as to how this crazy rocker had infiltrated the ranks of these jazzers.
Awesome players, all of them. Great jam.
Gary the heck Willis givin' lessons...
Holy shit, this is unreal. That's practically every single one of my all-time bass heroes sharing one stage.
Maybe Gary Willis's bass is the cheapest among all other players in this stage, but his skill make him rock this jam session. He is the master behind the gun.
No, the two Warwicks will be cheaper than Gary's bass, I bet.
The Ibanez GWB 1005 goes for $4999. So, the Ibanez Gary Willis model is not cheap.
J. Patitucci plays so musical and is so advanced harmonically. A real musician. That's why all the cats book him.
100%... his short bit at the end to start off the last run of solos around 11 minutes was insane (harmonically)!
Beautiful intellektuel and beautiful music M.R.T John Patitucci
Gary Willis absolutely dominated this!
Agreed and Gary Willis dominates all the time Imo! Easily my favorite bassist!
Might be the first time, when he opened his first solo that i have heard his intonation out of sync.
Not!
I find it boring
Wasn't a single phrase that Gary wasn't killin'. He is the Bach of Bass.
Very interesting, I love hearing all their different voices/styles together. And I want to work with this drummer. Mad respect to all. WOW
Gary Willis, what a beast!!
Gary Willis put it out there..
I jammed along through the whole 21 minutes!! Awesome playing!!!
Wow, unique! It doesn't matter who gives the lesson to anyone ... Or whether there are lessons at all ... The fun is great! Some of the Olympian Gods - and have fun with us! Thanks for shooting it, uploading it here and sharing it with us!
agree to willis dominance, its what bass is about. Loved the video. Great players
Gary willis, just amazing.
All time bass masters.
Tnx
Great post! Thank you. Great playing all around.
So much F'ing talent and technique in one room. Late to the party, but THANKS for uploading this!
at around 12:30 low range funk stuff by Willis, then Gwizdala solo, so good...
My favourite video of all time. Awesome
Amazing Gary Willis !!!!
Thanks for posting this. Incredible musicians. You really see their personalities. Enjoyed that Gary Willis ventured into the bass register of his instrument for his later solos and the Victor put such a premium on laying down a rhythm throughout otherwise we might have forgotten this was a bass summit! (That's not a dig on the others, just special admiration for those two.)
Note to myself: 2:53 - 3:49 - 5:04 - 13:05 - 14:02 - 14:32 - 15:31
a work of the gods!!!
reals good ambiance created!!
What a beautiful group !
Constellation... a beautiful group of stars!!!
Gary is a MONSTER!!!!!!!!!
Stringed instruments, short scale, long scale, 4 string, 5,6 - string, effect pedals gives more keyboard feeling and space carpet, everybody had said something with a notes played.
Gwizdala: oh shit, why my turn is after the Gary Willis?
Viaje con cada uno en sus grooves❤
Facinante!!!!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟
For those like me who didn't know, here are the players, left to right:
1. John Patitucci
2. Victor Wooten
3. Steve Bailey
4. Doug Wimbush
5. Gary Willis
6. Janek Gwizdala
Then the dude on drums.
The drummer is Byron Pickett. I wrote everyone’s name in the video description.
I am digging this bass jam
Loved Janek's tone and phrasings. Patitucci and Willis as usual keep their jazz flow tight. And ofcourse I expected nothing lesser from the other giants.
The absolute essence of love. Proof that there is a God
Gery Willis E IL MAESTRO ASSOLUTO, GUSTO ELEGANZA E PASSIONE... IS A BIG BASSIST
Todos increíbles, pero Patitucci es mi favorito! Ese fraseoooo, OMG!
In my opinion Gary Willis is the best player there!
What a surprise !! But goes smoothly and awesome
Victor Wooten is the man on bass!!! But they all really good!
janek just letting it cook
amazing, wonderfullll,i love Bass, amei só fera ,porra tocam demais parabéns
The gear packed in that room is worth more than the building itself... Gives me massive GAS
I loved those sounds Wimbush got out of his bass pedals. Its amazing to see so many great players in one place. I see alot of comments on gary willis and i noticed he stayed in the bass register more than the others that probably was part of his appeal to others besides being a wonderful player. It was also nice that this didnt turn into a slap bass hyper fest.
Mr.G.Willis les dio una lección de rithm groove y musicalidad!
Mind completely blown!!!
gary.. you killer man
The amount of serious base faces in this video is priceless
Gary Willis!!!
School's Out......Willis is the new Dean. That's Mr. Willis to you all.
Everyone in that lineup continues to push the expectation of bass guitar
12:35 Willis rocks it.
I'm glad to see so much love for Gary Willis! He deserves it!!
Did they ever start it !?! Lift music for the down elevators of the HGTTG building on Ursa Minor Beta.
Great Lesson!
Awesome!
Wooten has nothing to prove. Keeps the flow
i want Doug on my team, Yea!
Que bien me lo he pasado
DOUG WIMBISH, HENDRIX OF THE BASS
oh boy a room full of bass players. What do you want to talk about?
Sick!
Anyone know the name of this music? Sounds very familiar to me. But do not know the name
Back when Janek was just a padawan, now he's a master.
Janek you beast
awesome shit... were is the music? )))) what happened with guys?...)))) world is running down.
Why? proof that too much of a good thing isnt always good
Wimbish WITH FX!!!!
Willis 💯
3:48 11:04 13:34 15:00
Feel like raggae basslines by wooten.for me
Sounds like Gwizdala wanted to be Pat Metheny for one night. 8:50
He's using something that sounds a lot like Pat's old Roland. He even threw in some Metheny-like articulations.
+loveleea Totally. I was looking for someone to comment on that :) His phrasing, the way he ends the notes with the scoop-up is totally Metheny-like. Sounds like Doug is using that sound too :)
Janek is a Pat Metheny fan, he mentions it quite often. I myself am not too crazy about this Pat style of his, but I appreciate him trying to distinguish himself from other bassists. I really like his playing though.
from left to right:
patitucci wooten bailey wimbish willis gwizdala
+frottery you're wrong. It's john, victor, steve, doug, gary and janek
drummer?
They’re all named in the description, jeez.
@@davedaranjo they are, yes, but not in a helpful order.
I see here all of them did not give their best, each of them. Reason why is they are great to let breath the playable and musical energy in order to flow. It was a pleasure anyway to listen to..... Despite I see opinions here about who was the "dominant" or the "best" I do not think there was any as such. They all super super bass players. I can say some is more close to my taste and feeling. Music is not about rank.... when you see these guys expressing their unquestionable and natural talent.
Who knew you could get flute sounds out of a bass??!?!?!
Let's see some rufus philpot,john alderete,billy sheehan,John myung there
JOHNNY !
Willis might rocked that thing but wooten drove it home
“Sounds” to me that Wimbish just went down that road that Stanley Clarke chose not to go down, decades ago. Listen with your heart, not with your mind, peeps.
Huh?
Wooten and Patitucci
The aliens have landed! So good.
damnnnnn!!!!
tuner broke?
They could at least give them the BPC
Gary Willis...
