- In this video I show you a speed demo of me printing with the Caligo safe wash inks that I mixed up in the last video, and discuss the pros and cons of working with them on the gelli plate.

Botanicals are my favorite. These are just lovely!
I love that you did a video using printing inks so everyone can see the differences. I sometimes use Akua inks and love them. They remain usable on the palette for DAYS. I like to mix colors, so it's fun to have the time to do that. With acrylics, we all tend to use the "tube" color because it's easier and the paints will dry on the palette before we can get the mixture used up. Your videos are very well done. Thank you for sharing with us all!
333Judy333 thank you! Yes akua inks are fab too!
Gorgeous prints ! Thank you so much . Kind regardss - Judi - Australia
Love the look of these prints. Thanks for explaining your process and the pros and cons of inks and acrylics.
Thank you for the information, very helpful.
One more thing: The lovely layered TRANSPARENT prints that you achieved with the ginkgo leaves were absolutely breathtaking -- and are a very real advantage to the inks. BEAUTIFUL!
333Judy333 thanks so much! Yes using inks can give lovely transparent effects!
I've ordered my inks a couple weeks ago and I'm so antsy to get them! Thank you Lucy for your generosity in showing your process.
Lucy those prints are so awesome and fantastic and beautiful thank you so much 😊 xxx Mags
Mags Nash thanks!
So pretty
Thanks!
I would love to see more gelli printing techniques-especially ones that look more elegant and professional like the ones you use personally.
hi sarah! im going to work on more videos when I get a chance for sure! i do have an indepth gelli printing class that has over 30 teaching videos in it if you want to see my full process - its called "Imprinted" and is on my website
Lucy Brydon thanks!
Thank you for the demonstration how to use Caligo Safe Wash in this and the previous video. It helps a lot. Is there a possibility that you might show how to do reduction prints with linoleum? Just bought the ink for this purpose. Thank you in advance for some advise.
I might be able to at some point! im terribly behind in updating my CZcams it kind of took a back seat during covid! Lino prints are fun tho!
Do you have a video on cleanup? I observe that these inks don't just wipe off the palette knife easily. They are pigments in some kind of oil base that interacts with soap but it takes some effort to clean it off a surface or a roller? Any advice?
Jan Walker clean up is not difficult! You can wipe off most of the extra ink at the end (on your brayer and where you have mixed them) with a baby wipe then wash in soapy water. For my plate I just clean at the end with a baby wipe or wash with soapy water
thank you for a wonderful informative video. You mentioned in the previous video and in this that the inks could bekept overnight 'if covered' in an airtight container or cling film over the top, how would you recommend? Also can you work on top? any or all mediums? watercolour, acrylic, coloured pencils? would it work cutting up and using as collage?. Sorry such a lot of questions but my mind is buzzing with possibilities
yeah you could cover with a damp cloth or scrape them off and put in a container to keep them! I am busy writing a gel printing book that will hopefully answer many of these questions and more!
@@LucyBrydonArt thankyou for your reply. will definitely keep an eye out for your book
Lovely work - what paper do you use for your prints?
hi dolly I tend to use bristol paper or printmaking paper if i am making something to frame and sell but if i am making collage papers anything goes, thin cardstock or deli paper is good I am thinking I might do a video on the different printing papers and how they work compared to each other
are you using a speedball gelli plate?
Can you use fabric instead of paper please?
As an art group we’ve bought the Caligo inks and a gelli plate each. I normally work on a press producing monoprints using Hawthorne inks. They have a product that allows you to make the ink more transparent. Caligo similarly produce an extender - would we need this or are their inks generally more transparent anyway ? Thanks in anticipation 🙏
the extender sure helps to make them more transparent!
Do you need to display them under glass or do they dry like regular acrylics that can be varnished.
Sybille Muschik I wouldn’t varnish them...I usually frame the ones I finish properly
Do you thin them? They're really very very sticky and hard to roll out, so I'm curious if they can be thinned or if I just have to roll and roll and roll?
Bernice Foster yes roll them out till they are thin they make a sticky noise - you can add extender to thin them too
Where do you buy Calico Inks. I’ve not found them.
dick blick
Penny Willow I get them from jacksons in the uk
