This is so sad to hear and yes, this is the sad reality. I am not against Jeepney Modernization. In fact, I am looking forward to witness how our traditional jeepneys evolve into a modernized one where comfortability and eco-friendliness should be forwarded without compromising our tradition and culture. However, what I am against of, is that our jeepney drivers are not given enough time to shift to these new units. They do not have the resources or funds in acquiring one, knowing that it costs millions of pesos when they only had enough (or not even enough) to feed their stomach. Pandemic made it even worse for them, for they were limited on their routes and resources. What I am forwarding now is that, they should be heard. Before phasing out these jeepneys, let them have enough time to gather resources. Let them be prepared for the shift to these newer units. Help from the government should extend to other jeepney operators as well. And with that, we will be able to acquire modernization without putting too much burden on our jeepney drivers and passengers. ☺
