The Mathews Top Hat Spacer Kit is Mathews system for adjusting cams left and right. Listed in the video are the bows the kit works for through 2022, and we give a demonstration on how to install them.

Excellent video on changing the top hats. Great tip on making sure your limb tips have equal pressure when pressing. That’s where a lot of people mess up and you see them trying to pound the axle back in.

Bowhunters needing adjustment due to Brodhead tuning vs field points, who don't own a press, really have an advantage going to Elite or Bowtech for those bow's field adjustability.

I would add that the Mathews system has finite adjustability (what is it, four discrete options?), whereas Bowtech's and Elite's systems allow infinite adjustability. To me, this is Mathews' greatest shortcoming in the tunability category.

Thank you so much for making this video PJ! I just got my EZ Green press from Lancaster and can’t wait to start working on my V3. I love learning about all of this.

Great review PJ! Have you tested each combination to see how much paper tear you can get rid of and at what point the paper tear goes the other way?

I have not. When I'm tuning a new bow, I basically always have to move the cam left, so I do that and it has fixed my issues every time. Most bows I have, the cam is shifted as far left as the tophats allow

so just to be clear. the bottom and top can have two completely different top hat??? i recently swapped both cam from one side too the other and start shooting bullets... but i figured i got lucky.. also i noticed my cam timing was off so i adjusted that too....

Yes....It's possible to have two different sets - 4 different tophats - on one bow. You can have one set on the top and a different set on the bottom.

Seriously; CNC made components should be made to align a bow string within .01" of dead center. $2k for a bow setup and you need 50 cent inserts to correct alignment. Brutal.

Great video. Is there a preferred cam to start with when changing top hats?

    • @LancasterArcherySupply

I always start with the top cam, and I've never had to move the bottom. That doesn't mean you won't, but that's been my experience.

And not this that but you should never have to try to clear up a Hold through paper with your Arrow rest It should automatically be set at 13 sixteenths as long as you're not talking that riser you should get a bullet hole and if you don't whichever way it grips you fall asleep if you follow it so if it rips right you move your Cam to the right Meaning put the bigger spacer on the left the smaller Racer on the right

$1200+ flagship Mathews bows, and they require you to spend more money to buy a set of tophats. AND require FIVE strings that you can't fully change out unless you take off the cams; floating yokes that you can't twist up one side or the other to get a perfect tune WITHOUT the need to swap tophats. What used to take 15 minutes to tune, now takes more than a half-hour. Does no one else see anything wrong with this business model?

I love my Mathew’s but definitely say WTF all the time. I’m not the original owner so instead of paying $160 a cam before labor to get my bearing issues fixed I just put USA made R4-2RS bearings in for $3.80. For less than $5 I made my bow better than factory and saved hundreds of dollars.
I hate how they make it so hard to fix it yourself because I trust myself more than my one and only local “pro” shop.
