A New 22 Nauticstar 211 Hybrid. Poor Workmanship and Lack of Quality Control Couldn't Get Any Worst.

- On May 27 2022 I bought a new 2022 Nauticstar 211 hybrid boat that had never been on the water. It was a rainy day so the overcast and water masked some major flaws. Once home from our 175 mile drive the rain cleared I couldn't believe what I ended up with. If you're thinking of buying one you have to see this...
THESE ARE ALL FACTORY DEFECTS AND SHORTCOMINGS. THEY DO NOT REFLECT THE SERVICE OR QUALITY OF THE COMPANY I PURCHASED THE BOAT FROM.
multiple gel coat defects
missing screws
loose and stripped screws
burred screws
critical bolts installed hand tight
bad patch
obviously NO pre-ship quality control
literally parts installed labeled TRASH
caulking left oozing out around parts
sharp Hazzard
improper installation of locker, seat, seat brackets, trim tabs
scratched windshield
defects, defective, poor workmanship
Most other boats not much better. My Key West 219FS had similar problems. Most of the major dum things were done by the dealer. I think lake of skilled workers.
Thanks for this video. Guess I’ll start looking for a different brand. Wish I could get the 100 hours of searching for one of theses back
Wow. Glad you posted this. I loved this boat at the show. It was between this and a robolo we liked. I guess simce boats and rv's don't have the quality control of the automotive, we can't expect too much. Even at close to 100k! Sad stuff
Just saw this on google after watching video... "MasterCraft Holdings will also move forward by accounting for the NauticStar brand as "discontinued" beginning in the first quarter of 2023."
That's easily some of the worst fit and finish I've ever seen. Glad they took it back!
Oh, and I thought Key West was bad. Yeah that boats pretty bad. Sorry you’re having to deal with all that.
I work there the quality has definitely improved a lot of people have been replaced
NS has always been a budget minded cheaply built boat. I’m sorry for your luck but I walked many different manufacturers boats before deciding on one. NS was the very first I ruled out.
Dam that a lot of issues looks like it was rushed while building.
Have a 2021. Same thing, drove 5 hrs. Anything I found wrong at the dealer they said they would take care of which once I drove away never heard from them again and after I contacted them I was told "we will get back with you" and nothing. Thought I looked it over but when I had plenty of time to look it over at home it was piss poor finish work. Screws missing, 90% of the screws in the rub rail were sticking out or barely hand tightened. The hole for the anchor is atrocious. Stitching coming apart on the seat button area. Yamaha motor trim indicator doesn't work, which I believe is a simple fix but havnt had the time. I have the same seat as yours and it looks as though they either switched the leaning post out or mis measured because there are holes that were drilled in the floor close to the seat base that they just caulked and moved on. Didn't notice till I was cleaning it one day. Caulking looks like a 2 year old did it. Orings around the window screws are over tightened and cracked. And my favorite part is the fresh water system was never even hooked up and the tag that shows inspection at the manufacturer is blank. Swim platform bolts were loose enough that 2 of them were gone by the time I made it home the first time. The Nautic Star emblems on the sides are randomly crooked on a few letters. After filling the aft live well and draining it was full of metal shavings. The little table /seat broke completely off of the pole when my daughter leaned against it. Oh and the same awesome taping job with the 2 tone paint job. I've come to the conclusion that I need to just take care of the stuff my self because I know it will be done right. Now. I will say this. I love the boat. Family loves it too. It runs and handles great. But very disappointed. I really need to check under my boat after seeing yours patched. I've never tried contacting NS about any of it because most is fixable if I just do it and none of it is worth the cost of fuel to take it back to Delaware from WV. Their fit and finish seems to be a common issue.
Sorry you have to deal with all of that. The dealer returned this boat and I was refunded because I never crank it or took it out.
I just recently learned Nauticstar is closing down next year.
If make you feel better I ended up buying a Carolina Skiff U.E 24 and it has multiple mfg defects and rushed production left missing screws in rod holders, sharp screws cut off on T-top along with other stuff. Thank goodness not as bad as the Nauticstar but ridiculous on a 80k boat. It's currently in shop at a Carolina Skiff's dealer.
Many of the boat builders lost their employees during covid shutdown. After they reopened the employees did not return. All of the builders are having these problems with quality control with new people. This is not an excuse, but these are things are happening, you need to be really diligent before accepting boats this year.
@@Matrixticity glad I saw your video but I was under the impression that Mastercraft bought Nauticstar? No word that I have heard of Nauticstar going out of business.
Absolutely ridiculous this would leave the plant. This is one of the worst new delivery walk arounds I’ve ever seen with a Carolina Skiff owner close.
I wonder it they didn't sell you a boat that had some sort of accident getting unloaded at the dealership.
How could a dealer even have the audacity to sell this boat? This should have been sent back to the factory right after it got off he truck.
Dealer was nice enough to take the boat back and mail me my 10,000 deposit a month later. They didn't have to do this so I'll give then a good dealer rating for that. They also sell Sea Hunt brand.
Would have left it at the dealership..... always closely inspect never be too excited to walk away it's your money nothing sends a message like keeping it.
Ever since they sold out things have been going downhill
i thought it was just me i had the same problems on a 22 1810 that boat is wet my life vest activaded in front live well in my yard !!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh dont call factory the woman on the phone is on full time PMS!!!!!!!!

Having been in Quality Control for 36 years I have yet to see anything perfect. At first I was gonna say you are nit picking but as you got to the hardware I have to ask why you accepted the boat? Most of your complaints can be found on every boat in the market. I bought a brand new 21' Seapro W/A in 2001 and found pliers, screwdrivers, cigarette butts and candy wrappers in the bilge! Anyway if the world was perfect I never would have had a 36 year career in Quality Control!
The dealer had the model I was searching for and after driving 4 hours I arrived and ir was raining. Boat was wet and I did not move ever part to check it it was working because it was a new boat with 0 hours. This was the first new boat I ever bought and I would never had thought I would have to walk around with a set of wrenching to test all bolts to make sure stuff would start falling off the boat from vibration and wave action because the factory didn't tighten them.
$60K? wow! I would take it back to the dealer. Nautic Star has been acquired by another company. Is it sabotaged by employees?

So you bought one of cheapest boats in the marketplace and your complaining that it was built poorly? 😂😂😂. If you had spent 15% more you could have had a quality boat.

Lol 65k is a lot of money for many people so lucky you for being able to afford a yellowfin, HBC or fountain. I wasn't expecting gel finished under hatches and console. Even a low cost NEW boat shouldn't be sent out of the factory the way this boat was received. This video shows other budget buyers who are thinking of buying the "Cheapest boat in the marketplace" (as you describe) knowledge to see areas of concern to look for before they sign a contract. Maybe they will pony up to buy a boat in the class you can afford. Even at high dollar bosts you may get a thrown together boat. 15 years back I worked as a rigger at Boston Whaler and I learned you may spend the big dollars but even world popular premium brands coming off the lines in ok condition or great condition depending on the employee that boat passed by and Quality control checks were relaxed.
@@tstanley01in my price point I ended up with a 24 ft Carolina Skiff. It was also a challenge Covid boat but after all the manufacturer visits Its doing well. 250 Suzuki runs good pushing to to about 48mph wot and cruises at 20 to 24 mph burning 7 gph. I installed a Jac plate which allows to adjust for best drag reduction to achieve the lowest fuel burn.
I looked at Stingray but they still use laminated plywood in their hull. I had a 2002 22ft Stingray deck boat and never had rot or hull problems but my boat stays on a lift and I wanted no wood hull since always in a moist environment.
There are no more cheap boats on the market so he is right shouldn’t have those defects.
@@chaunceyrickard231 there are still lots of cheap boats in the marketplace. The fact the prices went up dramatically doesn’t mean the quality came up with the price.
Horrible. But at least it has a Yamaha on it.
