Cochise, meaning strength of the oak . Pronounced KO- chee- ss. That is a name given by whites to honor the war leader of a band of Apache called Chiricahua ( Cheer-ih-cow-wha ). From 1861 to 1872 he led a war against the US government, until a peace treaty was reached. His name was Shi-ka-Shi.

If you don't know by now, Chris Cornell was the lead singer of Soundgarden and co-lead of Temple of The Dog with Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder. There was a band in the 90's called Rage Against The Machine. RATM'S lead singer Zack Delarocha left the group and Chris merged with the band to form Audioslave. If you have never heard of RATM then I HIGHLY recommend giving Bulls On Parade, Down Rodeo, and Killing In The Name a listen. Delarocha is in my top 5 of GREATEST rappers of all time. You read that right. RAPPERS.

So something cool about Tim Commerford's bass; on this album there's one clean dry signal and another louder signal with all the effects, including the distortion and wha. So you get clean bass with the wha adding sonic texture on the other channel.

This was their first single from their first CD. People were waiting forever for that CD to drop and when it finally did, this was the first thing most people heard from Audioslave. Incidentally, there's a video on CZcams that's Audioslave's introduction to the world. They're performing live on the Marquis outside Dave Letterman's studio right on a busy New York City Street, I don't know if it's Broadway or 5th Ave or which but it's outside Dave's studio, and this was their first live performance. The video is about 20 minutes long. Maybe 5/6 songs
