  • Ornamentations (noun): 2. That in which the process of ornamenting is embodied; the ornaments which adorn a thing collectively; ornament in general
    Or, in music, the grace notes that embellish a melodic line.
    Update: the kits for Santa Stops Here are now fully sold out - thank you so much!
    Kits for My Home Sweet Home are available directly from the Attic
    All questions regarding the kits should be directed to the Attic
    To order, specify which linen (Himalayan Fog or Cloister Cream, both 38 count), whether or not you need the chart, and use the keyword Katie's conversion for My Home in your order.
    You can use their online order form, available at atticneedlework.com/order-form
    Email in your order (put Katie's conversion in the subject line)
    Or call the Attic at 480.898.1838 or 1.888.942.8842
    The conversion will be exclusive to the Attic while they have kits in stock
    MFE AKGIT 1833: A Vierlande Sampler on Legacy Linen 53/63 Sicilian Marzipan (equivalent colors are 45 count Jersey Cream and 38 count Russian Tea Cake) with Soie Surfine 2099
    Please note that my reference to 8 spools is specific to Soie Surfine, which are 100m spools. If you are stitching with 100/3 or Gobelins on 50m spools you need at least 16 spools. I purchased 9 spools in addition to the one I had.
    I recommend Gobelins 671 as a good choice for 36-40 count given the intense color and good coverage, but the full range of alternate grays shown, left to right is:
    Gobelines 3226, 100/3 099 (equivalent to my Surfine 2099), Gobelins 671, 100/3 773

    Also shown: Plum Street This Happy Morning, stitched on 38 count Fuller's Teazel
    I used Elizabeth Ann Can Stitch's project bag tutorial & pattern: • How To Make a Project ...
    The pink fob was changed to DB2117, the blue was changed to DB0218, the plain opaque versions of the previous colors
    New bags: light pink fob (all details on previously worked fobs are in the description for episode 50) with an old colorway of Liberty lawn Lodden
    Aqua fob with Liberty lawn Sambourne green: www.libertylondon.com/us/samb...
    Blue fob with Liberty lawn Elysian Day: www.libertylondon.com/us/elys...
    The new fobs:
    Beige: Miyuki delica DB1458 11/0 Opaque Alabaster Straw Hat with crystals Sand Opal, Crystal Golden Shadow, and Light Colorado Topaz
    Green: Miyuki delica DB0917V color lined leaf green with crystals Erinite and Palace Green Opal
    Stacy Nash's I Will Cut You scissors keep, stitched on Legacy Linen 38 count Brewer's Malt with Gobelins 061, Surfine 2061 for the over 1 with a #12 short tapestry point beading needle
    The ribbon used is River Silks 7mm color #70, which can be ordered from your local LNS although Needle in a Haystack also stocks River Silks ribbons
    And I lined it with Liberty London Lodden, blue colorway
    The linens shown from Legacy are 38 count Fuller's Teazel (used for This Happy Morning), 38 count Brewer's Malt (on I Will Cut You), and 37 count Corn Tassel (used for Flea Market Biscornu)
    All have slightly different undertones that can pick up different things in your colorway, thus why I use them all even though they're fairly similar in tone
    Sue Hillis Map of Hawaii stitched on Legacy Linen 38 count Himalayan Fog - original silk conversion by me, but we didn't write it down

    Thanks for a video full of brightness and bling. Your Modern Folk Embroidery piece looks wonderful. I can see why you don't want to stop stitching. And those blingy fobs, oh my. And then yummy projects bags. So much beautiful eye candy. It was nice to see your mom again. Her pillow is lovely. Hope she has an amazing time at summer school. Take care, and happy stitching, Arleen

    I love the green fob with the fabric you have. The other fob really does go with your zipper & gives it that added pop!! So fun to see your mom!! As reading through the comments Katie, I've also heard that BLUE DAWN Dish soap works really well. Try it on a scrap piece first. I'm a Quilter too & my Quilter accidentally got some oil from her machine on a white spot on my quilt. The Blue Dawn Dish Soap took it right out. Crazy good right! For some reason it has to be the blue dawn.
    Also, I love Jacobs designs. Oh my it's BEAUTIFUL!! I can see why you can't put it down! I've been stitching his Friendship design. Love it!! Take care! Love your flosstube videos!!

      Interesting, I had never heard that it had to be the blue Dawn. I'll have to experiment with this on some remnants. And yes, Jacob's designs are just fantastic, he's so talented.

      @@katiestrachanembroidery I saw where Laura is making it her thu/fri/sat stitch or something like...I'm doing to call or email Jean at the attic and get a small piece of higher count linen to ensure I can see it - 40 is as high I've gone thus far. Look forward to watching your progress! I'm retired so what's stopping me!?

    Soooo you didn’t have any haul, that’s so sad! 😂 I loved that your Mom was on, her stitching is so beautiful. I think the beige fob is my favorite, it looks so nice with that bag. Well, they are all my favorites…the fabrics are fabulous. The MFE sampler is so beautiful, WOW! I am working on the Reaching Skyward piece it’s a biggie also but not quite so big. Well Happy Stitching, and feel better! 😊 Rebecca C.

    What a MEGA episode, I had a feeling you would start AKGIT, it’s beautiful. I got it and printed it out. Will see what Sampler September inspires me to stitch. I started the In Full Glory on 56 count Just the Ticket and loving the tiny stitch, seems everyone is waiting for the 2673 but I couldn’t wait. Also stitching the Make Use of Present Time on the 53/63 Waffle Cone which is a dream to stitch on. I think the 53/63 has more of a flow if that makes sense than the 56 nut I really like the Waffle Cone, ordered more of that! Pin stitch is my favorite, did you see the post Vonna had on her pin stitch? That was a great alternative and that is great for those one stitches that you can’t weave into other stitches. Barn is beautiful, red silk is amazing. Now let’s talk about BLING, OMG so much sparkly goodness! Well done and the beige definitely goes with your Katie bag. I see more bling and project bags in your future. The Stacy Nash is beautiful and it was wonderful to see your Mom, her Hawaii pillow and Biscornu is beautiful. She will be styling for Summer School. Thanks for building our stash when it comes to kits, much appreciated.

      @katiestrachanembroidery  Před rokem +1

      No, I didn't - thanks for the tip, I'll have to check it out. Those single solitary stitches are always a challenge so that would be a useful thing to know. And yes, I don't know what it is about 53/63 but I definitely find it much easier, I am absolutely blazing along on AKGIT. One day I'll figure out why exactly that is, but in the meantime it's just gorgeous and really enjoyable to stitch on!

    The back, the back of MFE! You will need reversible framing to alternate display as the abstract is mesmerising. 13:11

    • @katiestrachanembroidery
      @katiestrachanembroidery  Před rokem

      Not unless I win the lottery! Getting this properly framed - it's going to Total Framing and getting museum glass, in ten years when it's finished - will already be expensive enough. Worth it, but the back will have to be a secret for another generation to discover...

    • @jordan88888888
      @jordan88888888 Před rokem

      Reversible framing is glass on both sides so you can hang it showing either side, maybe alternating month by month.
      I predict a 2023 finish for this. Tree by tree, crown by crown, stitch by stitch….
      Those trees! I am thinking of doing individual trees and having an indoor forest of the Trees of Life. No framing for me; just fell stitch each tree segment on to a floor to ceiling linen curtain and let the breeze waft on through.
      Back to the framing; why not leave the front for another generation to discover? Hmmm.

    Your videos are so much fun to watch! I love your enthusiasm! I do have a question about “Santa Stops Here!” I love this so much so I immediately ordered from the second shipment and received it pronto! However, I did not see a working chart in my kit. I have the color photo, and the information page on all the threads, that’s it. There was no chart or any information about the fabric or suggested needle to use. Were these pages inadvertently left out of my kit? Thanks, Katie, for always keeping me entertained!!!

    • @katiestrachanembroidery
      @katiestrachanembroidery  Před rokem

      Thank you - regarding your question, the kit does not include the chart, which you can obtain from any LNS. This was in the item description but you may have missed it. On needles, that is my omission - the linen is a 38 count and you would use a 28 tapestry or a #10 short tapestry point beading needle, whichever you prefer. Always a 28 tapestry when combining the Accentuate and Surfine, but otherwise your choice. I like the #10 tapestry point beading needle myself but the eye is finer, harder to thread, and you do see a little more thread wear in the eye of the needle. Enjoy! Santa Stops Here is such a fun piece.

    • @diannehafterson18
      @diannehafterson18 Před rokem

      Thank you for your quick response, Katie! I will head to an LNS to purchase a chart. I was confused because I have never purchased a kit that didn’t include a working chart. BTW, the flosses included in the kit are STUNNING!

      Thank you! I haven't studied the dark version that carefully but I think most of it would be fine - the greens absolutely would. The darkest red and potentially the second darkest red would be a real problem though. You'd have to try them out and see how they behave - I haven't done much stitching on very dark linen but you really just have to try things and see. And enjoy My Home Sweet Home! You'll love stitching with silks - not only are the results beautiful, it's so enjoyable to stitch with. Like beautiful, lustrous butter!

    A nurse at the blood donor clinic told me Dawn dishwashing liquid (I have no affiliation) takes blood stains out of fabric. This I have verified on my clothes. I don’t know if the linen would be colour fast, though, but might be worth testing on an offcut if necessary, one day… Also, you are so prolific that I am extremely jealous. Thanks for the fun episode!

    • @katiestrachanembroidery
      @katiestrachanembroidery  Před rokem

      I've heard that before as well, but I didn't want to use any kind of solvent or detergent as I'd have to wash the whole piece - I like the hand of linen unwashed, with sizing in so I just submerged the relevant bit. But it would be worth testing on a scrap - you can never have too many tricks up your sleeve when it comes to rescuing your stitching!!

Mary Corbet's blog Needle n Thread is a wonderful resource for beginners that gives a wide overview of different types of embroidery, has stitch tutorials and guides, and information on different tools and materials used. I would recommend giving it a good read and deciding what you like and what you would like to try ('embroidery' encompasses a very wide range of techniques). My own classes will also be opening for registration in September if you'd like to try something project based - several cross stitchers were in the first running of the Elizabethan Valentine and have done wonderful work.

    • @katiestrachanembroidery
      @katiestrachanembroidery  Před rokem

      Thank you! That's so kind, but I have so much stash already, and lots of Liberty goodness - please use it yourself, or pass it on to a stitcher who isn't so lucky to have a Liberty stash already. Liberty Tana lawn used to be printed selvage to selvage, it now has an identifying strip on one side only. Most of my older Liberty fabric is selvage to selvage print, I'm not sure when the change occurred. You can really identify it by the hand - it's very thin, extremely supple, and the print is almost as vivid on the back as the front - and by the quality of the printing.

      Thank you, but no, it won't be possible. The Attic wouldn't be able to get the threads any more than I can - I bought out everything that existed for the kits. Several critical colors in the conversion are now completely gone. However, there will always be other wonderful things to stitch and plenty of fun things coming for holiday!

    Is your big piece one over one?

      No! One strand of Soie Surfine over two threads, on 53/63 count. I love tiny stitching, but not that tiny!

    Personally IMHO a disappointment on having your kit only available through the Attic. I just wish the Attic would come into the world of today and decide to seriously sell online. I am against going backward and giving my credit card number to a company that writes it down on a piece of paper which is not at all secure. Nothing at all against their products. Just a wish list for the store.

      I do understand, but the thing is, I can't kit everything myself - I'm just one person and it takes a lot of time to kit and then ship all the orders. If the Attic hadn't stepped in to do it, there would have been no kits at all for My Home Sweet Home. However, the conversion will be shared in future and then you do have the option of ordering all the materials through the retailer of your choice. So 'only' is a temporary situation.
