In this video I make a few window cornices to add a final touch to our great room remodel. I made these mostly out of scrap MDF and plywood that I had laying around but I had to buy the crown molding.
They are a simple three sided "Box" made out of MDF and assembled using wood glue and brad nails. I added some structural support by putting some 3/4" plywood as the hanger and back support. I also added some support between the back and the main face and this really stiffened up the hole assembly. Finished with a few coats primer and high gloss white paint, all applied using a sprayer. I hung them on the wall using 2 1/2" deck screws.

I love same the cornices and the workshop!
Omg love it and love your tool room!
Beautiful. I wish I had $50,000 worth of different kinds of saws. I wish my apartment was as big as your work shop! Still, excellent job. Windows look very nice.

Awesome Tyler, turns out this is just what I need in a few rooms of the new house to tie up loose ends. Thanks man!
Awesome, glad to have helped a bit!
I appreciate that you’ve included your nail-size info. Rarely does a DIY video include this.
Looks very nice! I never knew about the thermal aspect.
Thanks for watching Chris.
Another great build, Tyler.

Thanks Adam.....it is a completely different space than it used to be!
This was such a thoroughly excellent video! I'd love to have seen just how you installed the curtains and rod. I was wondering if you could just use a tension rod, or even something super cheap like pvc pipes (since they won't be seen). Again, many thanks for sharing your expertise and tips!
Thanks for another cool build video! Also great to see the Sacred Heart/Immaculate Heart artwork in the living room!
Thanks Tim!
Looks great man!
Thank bro!
Really liked what you did here. Will definitely be having a go at this. 😀
Nice, good luck!
Great work Tyler.
Thanks Marc!
Dude, that room looks amazing! What a transformation. Now you need some walnut or white oak frames for the Sacred Heart and Immaculate Heart images.

Thanks man!
Looks great. I think I may do that with a cap on top to stop light coming through the top of the curtains in the morning when it's far too early to be up!
Good idea man! Thanks for watching.
very nice looking easy project. am subscribing.
Nice! Thanks for watching and the sub.
Nice project! I've never done anything like this before...when you go to install curtains, will the cornice kind of be in the way?
great job
Thanks!
Nice job Tyler
Thanks Mike!
Your channel is amazing! +1 sub.
Thanks for watching and the sub, much appreciate!
Great video...love the cornice. The only thing is I wish you would have said what you set the miter saw at for the crown moulding cuts. I would love to do this but am not sure what angle the cut should be.
45 degree
Nice, your house is really coming along, I did not see your helpers on this video but I did hear them.---
They were certainly there! Thanks for watching.
Very nice 😊
Thanks John!
Thanks for video and nice job.. I really liked it..But does it not make the room darker?
Maybe a tad but its worth it for the look.
thoughts on these in a room with crown moulding already?
Hi Tyler, looks beautiful ! Is this possible to do with out the equipment? Saws and stuff? If we went into Home Depot with measurements for the MDF had those cut and did the same for the crown mounding? Not sure how possible it is?
Nice video ! Did you do the ceiling in that room to?
Yes we did, video on our channel about that as well. Thanks for watching.
Can you recommend the sprayer you are using? Is it easy to use...easy to clean? Thanks
Big thumbs up from me...👍🔨
Thanks David, really appreciate it!
You did not tell us how you mounted it on the wall. You forget that some of us are clueless. and do not speak your language when you talk so quickly and do not show us stuff like that spray stuff you used and what a cap is or how exactly it is put together. Maybe a list of things we would need to do that type of project and what alternatives we can use because most of us do not have that bada$&; garage you got there. LOL! Loved the how-two video. You made it look so easy. Great job! Thanks.
What are you anchoring into during the install phase... Are you just drilling on a downward angle through the ply and into the wall studs?
+Nick Pernia Yes, directly into the studs.
What hardware was added to hang it on the wall? Is it easily removeable for curtain or blind changes?
no problems with expansion and contraction?
How tall was this piece
will the curtains mount directly on the cornice?
They stand of 4" and we chose this distance so we can mount the curtains under the cornice. Thanks for watching Ken.
Hello. What is the depth of your cornices plz ?
Simple with a factory in your garage!?
Great job, but should'nt you have painted them Tyler orange? LOL
Sorry but you installed the crown upside down.
I was about to say the same thing. Did a good job on the build, but installed the crown upside down.
umm....Thought this was suppose to be simple diy.
