Funny. I homebrewed something like that first summer of COVID. Used an eBay motor speed controller & could tune it pretty easy. Planned on going POTA with it. Never got that far. Nice video, again amigo. 73 de W8IJN
pretty cool gizmo but I'm not sure if I could justify the cost unless I planned to use it alot. I'm all for new tools to help and advance features and save time. Oh, maybe the final release will be fully waterproof.
The F-LOOP 3.0 will never get fully waterproof. The capacitor will not allow it. We're talking about capacitor plates that are few thousands of an inch close to each other. Can't be installed for several days outdoor without, under rain and snow without causing serious humidity and shorts issues.
Josh, I have a question completely off topic that I would appreciate your assistance with? Regarding the frequency limitation of the Japanese Yaesu FT-100D. I mistakingly bought one on eBay not knowing the VHF/UHF range is limited to the Japanese market and is baked into the firmware of the radio. Ergo, the removal of jumpers R6035 and R6036 will not work to open up the frequency range allowed in the US. However, I have read of another option apropos replacing the control board or CPU of the Japanese version and replacing them with the subsequent components from a U.S. or UK version. Have you heard of this, know how to do it, know of someone who can help, or at least point me in the right direction? This is a great little radio and is in mint condition but in its current state will not work for the application I bought it for because the repeaters I like to connect to are out of range of the current VHF settings. The intent was to do a mobile shack-in-the-box for half the cost of used 857Ds… as it stands now this would only be about 80% effective.
Message from Carl is that there isn’t really a max length. At some point there is based on the power going through the unit, but it’s safe to say 30’ no issue.
The CHA loops look great for radios without internal atus. What's the weight difference between the 2.0 and 3.0, since the p loop isn't on their website anymore?
I think this Chameleon remote loop antenna will sell well in Japan. IC-705 seem to be very popular radio in Japan, due to Japanese license requirement, which does not allow more than 50 watts on non-stationary use, other than fixed address. and 4th class is limited to 10 watts in HF , while 4th class is majority of licensee in Japan. Japanese Ham do not know about much about Loop antenna, many don't know even it exist. and they often talks about getting suitable antenna they can operate HF from their balcony. I am in contact with Japanese Ham Radio youtuber JH5MNL , if you want to invite him on your show, or if you want to be in his show. it may be interesting show to both Japanese and American Ham. AG6JU
how does the tuning motor handle stop limits on the cap? i set up a wireless (433MHz) tuning unit using a reduction drive and a AL-705, and don't have to worry about stepping because the tuning cap rotates 360 degrees

The whole aspect of this loop baffles me , it’s huge , cumbersome , and looks like all hell to operate . I just don’t see how this is fun at all

I think part of the reason they upgraded to 3.0 was the 2.0 wasn’t able to have a remote tuner.

its a pity it doesn't have an external; power jack for 12v as a lot of us have external 12v power packs for operation
That 9v should last a very long time. Especially if you tune the unit off between tuning.
The 9V battery will last MONTHS!

A 20ft control cable is okay, but I didn't see anything in the manual about just how long of a cable you could use? 30ft? Less/More?

The 3.0 is about 30% smaller and lighter than the version 2.0.

No more development is planned for the P-LOOP. We're currently making an adapter to accommodate the F-LOOP 2.0 but nothing for the P-LOOP.
How weather resistant is it? I know the connectors aren't but that can be sealed, what about the motor? I guess it probably isn't meant for that?

First - the unit is wired so no lag or delays. Secondly - the stop limits have been encoded on the PCB.
