They could genuinely be sued. People BOUGHT cosmetics for the OLD MODELS. And now they are gone. Not to mention they are advertising new cosmetics in the shop on the OLD MODELS! False advertisement too

My biggest question is how are the devs able to get away with this absolutely horrible anatomy? As an artist, nothing is correct as far as proportions go. The hands are way too big, the torso looks like a potato. This is not how most human beings are built. How did they pass art school? It looks horrible.
They want an excuse to shut down the server. Drop in sales is a reason.

Just put an option to revert to old avatar style, this way everyone gets what they want… that easy.
Sadly, Niantic cares about themselves. If they cared about us, things would cost less and this stupidity wouldn’t be forced on our accounts. They would allow us to keep our original avatars. But they’re doing it to go gender less because they want to eliminate male and female. It is never to benefit the customer.
But then no one would conform to their ideas of a what a real person should look like

With all due respect to you, it is not “crazy” to quit the game over the avatar change. I have, and I won’t return unless they restore my original avatar. You used the word abomination, which I absolutely agree with. Niantic is force feeding a gender agenda. It is repugnant to me. Not another dime to Niantic from me if they don’t restore the original avatars. Not a dime.

This thing has become so big, even people who do not play the game have been comenting about it on streams or videos, its crazy! Niantic truly put the cherry on top on messing the game experience and its last good thing by doing this update. They need to update this mess or they will lose a lot of players right away!

I was literally looking at my avatar and trying to make it look good. And as I was looking through some of the clothes, I realized that I already had them, but there's a price on it again. After a while, I realized that theyre for girls. I honestly thought out loud,'Why the hell would I want my male avatar in girl clothes?' But yeah, it's a terrible customization.
Thus pointing out that with the old system when you changed gender, you already had the other version of that attire unlocked upon purchase ingame. Now you have to pay for that, and you can’t simply switch over appearances while having that option available. Blatantly scummy, but I’d wonder if it’s also breaking ToS on their own end if the appstore has stipulations regarding this at all.
And it’s very inconsistent, because there are some clothes that I have both the male and female version of, even tho I never bought the male. And others I don’t?
I think I know what happened. They had to make everyone an amorphous blob because if they gave us the opt out, 99% of us would... leaving those whom they did this for to be more easily spotted and thus potentially harassed.

The new avatar update is terrible and I can't even go to my friends list now because the character customizations now instantly causes the app to crash...
Also I've noticed how some of my items don't look right. My Mismagius hat now looks terrible on me. I'm kinda chubby irl so I tried to adjust my character to that feature and now I look like a black Bobby Hill! Yuck! ❌

this 100% is flase advertising i bought items on the basis of how they looked on my character, the way the item appeared on my character had a big part on why i would purchase any said item. if i was to look at what it is now it no longer falls under somthing that i would be willing to purchase.

New pokemon weren't being released, plus prices going up, plus day events to get people outside had to be paid for $2-$5 to catch Pokemon you could have gotten last year, and on top of everything they "forgot" to turn on the shiny pokemon in the last event despite promising and making people pay. i thought about this and could come up whith 2 simple fixes that would adress most of the problems people have 1 the color wheal (of course) 2 just put a withtch in the setting to use the old avatar, call it something like "simple avatar seting" and bam people can CHUSE to switch betwean "simple" (old) and "custom" (new) avatars.

I’ve experimented and this is the best I can do to recreate the female character:
Body:
Weight: 0
Shoulders: 0
Muscle: 0
Chest: 4-5
Hips: 6
Face:
Preset 1
It also only really works with baggy clothes but it works. Hope this helps
i legit think the best thing they can do asap is just revert it, fix it in the background and maybe roll it out again once it looks better. cause indeed some of those errors with the skirt for example are just way too bad.
If Niantic listens to feedback, it probably have them rethink their stances on DEI and fire those responsible. A bit wishful, but hopefully, a step in the right direction

There was a game I played years back and they messed with the avatars and I instantly quit the game, deleted it and never went back.
Now here I am again. Moved my Pokémon and deleted the game. I am done with go. You can't mess with my avatar.
Dont get me wrong i think its good that theres plus size representation for people i think they just went completely wrong with removing the gender distinctions between the models, the weird faces, the clothes not fitting and the drab colors they used for skin tones

I did exactly what you are talking about there, about wanting my character to just look silly now. I couldn't make my character look nice anymore, so I dressed her in a Turtwig onesie. I'm a Turtwig now. Then I was disappointed because although they added new skintones, the ones available are still realistic. Why can't I make myself green? Turtwig is green. Duh.
In my opinion, Niantic should change the avatars back to their classic design, but keep the other hair styles. My avatar looks normal, but he's literally a ghost, his shoulders aren't aligned correctly. Niantic should really think about how their product should be made before releasing it when it hasn't been tested out beforehand.
(I've played Pokemon go since 2016, but lost my first account, so I sort of came back in 2018.)
They should revert it back and overhaul the whole system. Then bring it back done better. Don’t bring it back till it is truly magnificent

Ol’ John is sitting in his San Francisco office and the team is giving a presentation on a revolutionary avatar project they’ve created. The presentation consists of a 2 slide PowerPoint, one with pictures of these ridiculous avatars and the second slide has a picture of a shiny Cleffa with dollar signs.John absolutely loves it and gives the green light to release the update live…

Western world really surrealistic
There are some clothes that are gender specific, then some that are for both. Now that there’s no male or female, we only have the male version of the clothes that was for both. So if you bought, gifted or rewarded clothes that were for both; then we only have access to the male version. But either way the old clothes look bad on the new avatar regardless.
Besides the avatar issue, why does my game keep crashing? At CD today, I crashed 10 times (no kidding) - looking at a showcase, in raids, and going into my friend's list. WTF!
lol I’ve been rocking a rocket uniform with a ray mask on. Along with the sugar skull mask so I didn’t really notice a change. But I’ll be pissed for em. In spirit mainly. How about a rocket uniform protest. Everyone just changes into it to cover up this atrocity!
