  • Costco recently announced it has begun to sell SILVER bullion! We'll explore Costco's first choice: The American Silver Eagle, and discuss some of the positive attributes of buying these coins from Costco--and some of the potential pitfalls to watch for. This is a great video for those folks new to silver and precious metals who need a little information to help them make the best choice.
    I mention the Costco GOLD video in this video. You'll find that video here:

    For those trying to find these silver eagles at Costco, I'm told they are selling out almost instantaneously. One website called SlickDeals allows you to set alerts for these so you can grab them as they appear. Disclaimer: I have NEVER used SlickDeals. But if you have, I'd love to hear your experience!

    Costco is adding to an exit problem for bullion. We already have folks buying on line. Then, when it goes up some they take it to a local dealer to sell. Local coin shops are starting not to buy from those who don’t buy from them. They buy large amounts when it’s cheaper and don’t need your higher priced silver. ( they did buy it during the pandemic, but market circumstances can change drastically.) COSTCO is adding to this problem. The more it’s easier to buy bullion, the narrower the exit market will be.

    • @Dub-C_Coins
      @Dub-C_Coins  Před 6 měsíci +3

      I agree 100%. Especially when you add completely new buyers to the mix. Gold in particular. They're dropping a lot of money on their first purchase without any advice or council, and when time comes to sell they may make poor decisions, too.

    Northern Nevada Coin has several locations in northern Nevada. I do business with them frequently. There is no issue there with buying ANY: gold, silver, platinum and palladium coins, bars or rounds. They have people who are trained to test and verify anything you bring them. They have equipment to count and verify any mixed composition metals. Anybody posting here about dealers not buying your Costco coin purchases can easily see for themselves that they are not fully aware of the how the precious metals and coin business in general works.

Also, what kind of a beating can I expect from a coin dealer when time to sell? I'm leery about selling on e-bay and I believe pawn shops only offer spot price at time of sale. Interesting comparison! The later 10% pesos contain .0514 of a troy ounce of silver, or about $1.30 in silver today.
      A 90% silver dime, like the mercury or Roosevelt, contains .0723 of a troy ounce, or about $1.83 in silver today. But it's my understanding that much of the silver on the pesos was in the form of a "wash", or relatively thin layer, that wore off pretty quickly. And few refineries will take the pesos. I'll consider the Guerrero info, too!

    The "Dollar" status of these coins gives us US citizens an opportunity to trade them for goods and sidestep the blown out fiat tax systems that are in place.

    Accept one type of dollar as payment and pay income taxes in another.

    • @actualsurfer
      @actualsurfer Před 6 měsíci

      @@Dub-C_Coins That case is completely different. That gentleman was structuring his books in order to sidestep labor laws, minimum wage laws, insurance laws etc etc.
      He was deliberately misleading auditors by misrepresenting the number of hours his employees were working in order to pay them in denominated silver coin.
      Had he simply paid his workers the legally required minimum wage in silver coin he could have at least gained by taking advantage of the difference in minimum wage vs. skilled labor wage. But he did not do that.
      What I am talking about is selling a widget or product and contracting that price to be paid in silver coin. This has been repeatedly defended by SCOTUS. SCOTUS as recently as 2008 has stated that coin and paper dollars are equivalent under the law.
      Lets suppose that I make a product like a handmade, stylized high quality toy car. An object of art. The IRS cannot mandate that I charge $25 for this toy car when there are many examples of toy cars for $1
      I can contract for payment in US silver coin the amount of $1.
      When it comes time to prepare taxes I report the sale as $1 and pay the income tax associated with that in fiat since they are legally equivalent.
      This is called Tax Avoidance and is perfectly legal as compared to Tax Evasion, which is not legal.
      The rub is when I convert these silver coins into fiat for spending into the system at large like when purchasing an item who's "value in $" is regulated. An example is Real Estate ( a matter of policy, NOT law and may change soon as SCOTUS is looking carefully at reversing the Chevron Doctrine that gives 3 letter agencies the power to write and enforce their own "Law"). One would go afoul of IRS policy if one sold a home for $2000 in gold eagles rather than the $100k appraised value.
      When I convert, I am required to pay a capital gains on that jump in income, no doubt.
      However, I dont ever need to convert them if I can continue to spend them just as my original customer for the toy car spent them...As $1 vehicles. Only these dollars enjoy a 25x increase in purchasing power.
      Or, I could hand them off to my children...who probably would not know the difference between an ASE that needed "conversion" and one that did not.
      😉
