Im relative of Ciaran the guy who wrote and sings this . He was a political prisoner in the north of Ireland , resisting the British occupation . While he was in jail his father died and he was paroled for 9 hours to attend the funeral in south armagh , pretty much what the song is about .

His da showed him this stuff about nature and the areas history on those fishing expeditions and i can still remember little Ciaran folowing behind him, fishing rod in hand, in awe of his father and his knowlege of these mysteries. Years later hes following behind his coffin in utter personal agony , regretting years of non contact. Later that day a steel door slams shut and thats fucking it . His best song by far

Awesome song. Such a sad story. My uncle was OTR till 2000. However his mother died in 1997
and he never got to sse her buried.
Although its not the same as Ciarans story I think my uncle will like the song so I'll send him the link.

. ciaran comments that the last time he walked behind his da was they were fishing when he was a kid, years later hes walking behind his coffin , prisoner with 9 hours parole...it kills me . That day was dignified , hundreds there in tribute from accross Ireland . His da was loved and respected by so many , sadly he never appreciated that Took a funeral . Ciarans circumstances made it desperate

"I never thought that things would end like this, not in my wildest dreams.
But life is cruel and sometimes twisted, like their judges and it seems.
that nothing here is sacred and I know what that means."
Powerful stuff, RIP to your father, and keep up the good music.

    hellp kbcmighty,
i knew ciaran b4 he went to goal in maghberry. He was a great singer then and put the provo singers to shame in the bars. I never knew his da dies when in gaol. I was very sad when i did hear as ciaran is a striaght talking political think tank, interned by the brits.
This song means alot to me personally myslef and can relate to it, well done pip, your da would be so proud you ! beir bua!

Haven't heard anything from him in a while.
Hope he is doing well but. Ireland needs its poets. Used to be laws against them. What is the use of any form of protest if no one is singing about them.
