Im relative of Ciaran the guy who wrote and sings this . He was a political prisoner in the north of Ireland , resisting the British occupation . While he was in jail his father died and he was paroled for 9 hours to attend the funeral in south armagh , pretty much what the song is about .

That day was dignified , hundreds there in tribute from accross Ireland . His da was loved and respected by so many , sadly he never appreciated that Took a funeral . I was very sad when i did hear as ciaran is a striaght talking political think tank, interned by the brits.
