btw, the song is about people who lost their way, just like dogs get lost when the rain washes their scent and they can^t get back home. that^s one of the best comparisons i^ve ever heard.

    Inside a broken clock
    Splashing the wine
    With all the rain dogs
    Taxi, we'd rather walk
Huddle a doorway with the Rain Dogs
For I am a Rain Dog, too
Oh, how we danced and we swallowed the night
For it was all ripe for dreaming
    Oh, how we danced away
    All of the lights
We've always been out of our minds
The rum pours strong and thin
    Beat out the dustman
    With the rain dogs
    Aboard a shipwreck train
Give my umbrella to the Rain Dogs
For I am a Rain Dog too
Oh, how we danced with the
    Rose of Tralee
Her long hair black as a raven
Oh, how we danced and you
    Whispered to me
You'll never be going back home
You'll never be going back home
Oh, how we danced and we swallowed the night
For it was all ripe for dreaming
    Oh, how we danced away
    All of the lights
We've always been out of our minds

How can it be 6 years since someone last commented on this video? Tom Waits is one of those performers who elevated themselves into a different category. When the Pogues were on tour in America, they listened to 'Rain Dogs' on repeat. That is the sort of artist he is. Commercial? Fuck no. An exceptional talent? Fuck yes.

Rain Dogs is the greatest beginning to end musical experience in the history of music! I swear it is! I bought this record when it first came out without knowing who Tom Waits was and I have listened to it a minimum of a 1,000 times. I still don't know all the lyrics because he swallows a lot of his words, and the print is so tiny in the cd insert that you need a magnifying glass to read it.I never tire of this record! It's like he stole the soundtrack of my thoughts when I was napping.

With Kerouac type lyrics and a Bukowski feel...I am not sure ANY day was Tom's day....BUT...that is exactly what makes every day...every time...every era...Tom's time. It is the music that if you are not a fan....or before you were a fan...you always knew had to be out there...that SOMEONE had to be playing it...and it has been...and always will be Tom.
