    I had one of these years ago. It is probably my top favorite camera of all time. So fun and simple to use. Images -> stunning.

      Yes it’s such a fun camera, I convinced myself I didn’t need it and now when I look back at the images I wish I had one! Thanks for watching 😊🙏

    Nice shots.
    Living in a flat country without any mountains and cliffs, I can really appreciate the shots from your hike. What a landscape to have access to!
    Medium format is always a tempting option because of the bigger negatives, but you need to work with the negatives yourself for them to make a difference, I think.
    The Portra 800 shot of the alleyway with the fairy lights after dark is one of the best, you have shot there - you nailed the composition.

      Thanks so much NP! Yes we have some beautiful national parks here. Springbrook I find a little scary ha ha. The path down to the waterfall can be slippery and from memory there are signs saying be careful don't die (or words to that effect) on the trail. There's also a stinging bush in the park which gives you the most painful agonising sting... so you have to watch out for that as well!

    I like medium format photos, but I as much as I'd like a GA645 I couldn't afford one!!. So, I have a few of those older, folder cameras, etc. Like a Zeiss Ikon Nettar, an Olympus Chrome 6 and a couple of others. They do the job😊

      Those old folders are so much fun! I shot a roll through a 6x9 folder about a year ago, huge negatives!

    Thank you for the review Matt. I’ve heard of this camera but had not really looked into it so was nice to hear more about it. As you mentioned, I think for the 120 shooters it seems like it would be a really nice option with some modern features like the auto focus and being a more compact option than some of the big SLRs. But I know you enjoy 35mm and instant so can see where maybe it wouldn’t be the best fit. But it does make some lovely images so I can imagine it being a great tool for some.

      Thanks so much Billy, appreciate it! As I've said in the other comments, I want to shoot some more portraits on 120 now I've rediscovered these images from ages ago 😊

    The portraits are beautiful. I have to keep an eye out for this camera. I liked all of the pictures a lot.

      Thank you so much! Although I said I was happy with 35mm, I feel like I should get my medium format cameras out for some more portraits now I’ve seen these photos again 😊

      Fantastic images, larger formats give that beautiful shallower depth of field. Just confused why your lab’s scans are the same for medium format and 35mm, I would expect the pixel dimensions to be around 2.5 times larger (except for camera scanning) unless they’re compressing to a set file size.

      Great question@@markthompson3977 the short answer is I don't know ha ha. Most of the labs I've used in Australia have the same dimensions for 35mm and 120 for standard and high res scans. Could be the limitation of the scanners they use perhaps?

    Splendid video!
    I own 3 GA645's... They are the best MF SLR point and shoot cameras ever. It's a shame they were discontinued.

      Thanks so much! Oh wow, that is dedication having 3! I completely understand though, when you find the camera you love, you need to have a backup (or 2!). Thanks for watching!

    The GA645 series is great! I enjoyed working with the Zi (Zoom lens), but the AF sucked (missed focus) and was super slow. I would love to try a fixed lens wide-angle version. But my biggest beef with the camera is that it shoots in portrait mode, I'm by default a landscape orientation shooter. Great images and review.

      Thanks Alex! Yes I remember reading your review! I was keen on the zoom model a few years ago but never got one.

    good point about lab results. it shares a similar aspect ratio with 35mm.

      Yes indeed! I shot these photos so long ago, I actually want to shoot some more 120 now after seeing them again ha ha

    The one thing I dislike is trying to get up close with portraits it’s always out of focus would you recommend turning up the f stop to get those more in focus close up portraits?

    • @MattLovesCameras
      @MattLovesCameras  Před 9 měsíci

      Yes I found that too! I only took about a dozen portraits with mixed results. It’s tricky because on one hand you want a shallow depth of field for portraits but on the other you want it to be in focus!

    Hi Matt, thanks for the review, i have just got hold of a GA645 and had a question regarding Aperture Priority, i would like to shoot portraits at f4, but with only 400 shutter speed at that aperture i don't think i will get a good exposure even with iso 100 film, i have thought about an ND filter but with through the finder metering I'm not sure it would work! Any thoughts or ideas ? thanks

      @MattLovesCameras  Před 7 měsíci

      Hi David! Thanks for watching. Are you worried about overexposure? I was using faster film than that for my outdoor portraits though we did go to shaded areas. Color negative looks pretty good with an extra stop or 2 of light so you could try that. With ND filters you’d have to make a manual adjustment to the exposure values to compensate. Let me know how you go!
