Soweto literally has the highest concentration of celebrities in the country. From famous musicians, sports players, actors, business men and politicians. Two nobel peace prize winners lived there.
Robert Maponya even built one of the largest malls in the country there. Even some of our well known soccer teams started there. They have their own television channel. A lot of television series are shot there by sowetans, even many short amateur films that play on channels like mzansi magic are from Soweto by sowetans. A number of uniquely south African dances and music genres began in Soweto.
Groups like the Soweto gospel choir are famous around the world.
It is very encouraging to see that places like this can still shine brightly even in the darkest corners of the of the Earth.

Orania is not an example of people building a community from the bare necessities. It requires people with money to invest large amounts of money to live there . So one needs to be relatively successful before going there. Meaning its useless to poor people trying to create a successful community. I am more African than some black people I know.
