As a junior in high school, I and three other players on our team went to the Pocono Mountains(PA) basketball camp, run by Coach Knight when he was the head coach at Army...On the first morning addressing the camp in a small airplaine hanger type of gym, coach told all of us to get up from our chairs and get in the defensive posture & to shuffle our our legs up and down...this went on for what seemed an eternity as he pushed us to keep at it...finally he had us stop...all of us were physically drained, but somehow we got through it...he then said to us "if you think your folks sent you here to go on a summer vacation, you're sadly mistaken" (and thats putting it mildly)...to this day, I'm both sore & exhausted...I came back home having learned basketball, but more importnatly the meaning of discipline, work ethic & perserverance...traits instilled in me to this day... I wouldn't trade that weeks experience for anything, period...thank you Coach Bobby Knight.

I remember going to the Omni Sports Center to see Coach speak to a group of a couple hundred fans. The presentation was supposed to start at 7:00 but the snow was falling large flakes and was about 5 inches deep. Coach showed up just shy of 10:00 and spoke colorfully about several subjects not just basketball. He spoke about Junior college recruit Kieth Smart and how excited he was that he was coming to Indiana. As we all know the Hoosiers won the National Championship on Kieths shot with 2 seconds on the clock. He spoke and signed autographs till 1:30 am. He was an amazing basketball coach and seeing him speak in public about life was unforgetable.

Given the events of February 8, 2020 in Assembly Hal, you can tell from Coach Knight's answers in the first handful of minutes that he's a man of his word, and did come back to Bloomington to try and re-engage with a place that embraced him for so many years. Thanks for the interesting look back 23 years ago! This was my senior year of HS.

I am not sure if it was fair and balanced. I think Costas could have talked more about the success of Bob Knight instead of being critical of his coaching style. Costas was even upset that the crowd was cheering. It seems as if they wanted Bob Knight to apologize for being who he was. Coach Knight helped those kids become greater men.

Ironically, Indiana has probably 2 of the top 5 greatest collegiate coaches in history in Doc Counsilman and Bobby Knight. But, for my money, Bob Knight is the greatest coach in college sports history. Unlike John Wooden and so many other so-called “great” coaches Bobby Knight never turned a blind eye to cheating, players skipping class, and special treatment. Dean Smith had Michael Jordan, Kenny Smith, Sam Perkins, Brad Daugherty-literally 3 NBA all-stars and the greatest player to ever play the game, but Knight beat him with Marty Simmons,Steve Alford, Uve Blab, and Dan Dakich for god sake. This is one game, but Knight made a career out of such games. He always beat teams that had more talent. Like Alford said, “At IU you’re expected to beat Carolina.”. Even tho they had no business beating that team. Knight coached for everything good about basketball. He didn’t coach to be media friendly or appease people who follow trends. I admire him for that. He really is the last of his kind.

8:43 on "playing hard." He goes on to say he's got some juniors who don't know how to play hard. That '94 class was the one that really made life hell for Knight.

Its funny wooden coach k coach cal were way more corrupt than knight they had all bought players which in return keeps them on somewhat of leash to not have the players be unhappy and go public and to cater to them and coddle them.. this man didnt care about feelings he cared about winning and molding them hardened men....theyre way harder things in life than a basketball game and i feel he helped to prep these young men for those times in his own way
