    Hi, I'm a 'Born again Modeler after Ill health forced an earlier retirement from a job that i loved. A period of depression followed until I realised I now had plenty of free time on my hands and it was then that I saw videos such as yours on building scale Airfix models, something I last did aged 14!
    And so I bit the bullet and bought some Airfix 'Aldi/Lidel' Airfix starter kits, the ones with Glue, paints and even a paint brush included!
    But as I said watching your and similar videos Inspired me so much I even bought a small compressor (with Air tank) and I bought my first Airbrush..result? a disaster! the paint spattered and I just made a mess of my 1;72 Spitfire Mk2! I had bought a cheap Chinese airbrush and a host of people said to fork out and buy a 'branded' airbrush from one of the well known suppliers. So, one Harder and Steinback evolution airbrush later, I attempted to spray my model again and what a difference! I now mostly use Vallejo paints but I have learnt so much from yours and other videos that I just wanted to thank you for helping me rediscover a hobby once loved as a kid.
    PS one question what do you use for the Lined antenna wires? I bought some 0.4mm elastic thread but it doesnt look right!
    Any advice would be greatly welcomed!
    Again, Thank you (from a new subscriber and a definite Thumbs up!)

      Welcome back! Your experience is very similar to many others. One of the main reasons I enjoy model building is the mental stimulation and attention to detail it requires. Of course we all have different standards skills and abilities but we must never give up trying to improve ourselves. One of my reasons for doing the channel is to share my experiences successes and failures and I thought if one person can learn something then that’s a bonus so thank you for your positive feedback it means a lot. If you are on Facebook maybe consider joining The Scale Modelers Facebook group. It’s a supportive and non judgmental group. There a link in the description and also here Look at this post on Facebook m.facebook.com/groups/thescalemodelers/?ref=share&mibextid=K35XfP
      Thanks just the same - happy modelling

    Wow! My grandfather flew on the Wellingtons as a radio operator/air gunner. He was on the 300 Polish squadron. I remember my grandfather telling me that he and the pilot did not like the navigator as he was an old fashioned Captain (pre-1939 and over 30 years old!) whereas they were sergeants under the age of 24.

    Nicely built and glad to see that you thought about the bomb bay flooring. It would have indeed been a howling gale in the fuselage with bomb doors open. Of the many builds I have seen of this kit you are the ONLY one who's bothered to notice it and subsequently rectify it. Well done. Great to see you mixing colours too. It's all part of the fun. This current obsession with 'hyper-exact' tones is truly sad.

      Thank you Mark. I don’t get overly caught up with the colours- I did in the beginning but when you start looking at the actual aircraft you soon realise that each one differs greatly. I am currently building Mk.1 version and it have same problem with wings. I think part of the problem is kit design itself because that big opening for engine cowlings/condola results plastic bending after molding and its cooling down. I sanded those engine openings in the wings slightly to fit engine covers to place and glued wings in two stages. First from wingtip to engines and after glue had settled I glued the wing from wing root to engine. That way I didn't need any filling but anyway they are bit hard to get right and feel that kit design is not best possible. By the way that part that didn't fit ( 3:54 ) should be rotated 180 degree ;)

Thank you for your comments and hope the build goes well! It does turn into a lovely plane though👍

    Fab retooling by the looks. I've got the new tool Mk.V Whitley. Hope it's as good. I don't build much in 1/72nd these days. Pretty much bombers only, as the scale is too challenging for my fingers and eyes now.

      It is very good on the whole but still a few issues here and there. I completely know what you mean with 1/72 . I tend to use magnifying glasses and tweezers all the way. When I look at the model it seems fine but when it’s filmed and put on a 48” screen it looks awful 😂 The magnifying glasses help see it more like the camera does.

    Your skills are amazing for less than 2 years into modelling. Certainly a great encouragement for me. I have subscribed and look forward to more of your videos. Can I ask how did you paint the crisscrossing frame? You mentioned that it took you 2 days to paint it and I reckon it would be a day for each fuselage. I can't imagine painting it by hand.

    • @TheScaleModeler
      @TheScaleModeler  Před 8 měsíci

      Thank you for your comments I keep trying to improve. I wear magnifying glasses to help with details which makes all the difference. The frame I sprayed in the brick red and then hand painted the frame with humbrol aluminium paint thinned down with some thinner. It was close detail work, I was pleased with it but I have seen better 😂. I have a space 1999 coming along next, a Lancaster build waiting to be edited and I will be starting a B-17 soon with some aftermarket additions. So that’s a sneak preview into what’s coming up 👍

    The interior looks just wonderful. I was wondering how you handled painting the geodesic pattern using aluminum paint. Was there a easy accurate way or did you hand brush? It looks perfect and would very much like to know how you did that part of the fuselage painting.

      @TheScaleModeler  Před měsícem +1

      I thought so; thanks very much for your quick response. It is going to take time and great patience to do this, but I think it's worth the effort. My plan is to perhaps use a micro brush. I gave some thought to initially priming, then painting, a base color of aluminum and then slowly filling each recess area between the, geodesic pattern with the brick red color just as much work. I will keep you posted. This is a great build and your presentation is excellent. I will subscribe JP.

As an ex-Games Workshop miniature painter, I cannot bear the thought of covering up those internals. I have taken it to my therapist but it remains unresolved! My thoughts so far are to sit the aircraft in the display cabinet uncut side outwards and the cut panel inwards. I am having similar dark thoughts about a Short Sunderland. How would you recommend doing the actual cutting? A fine modeling saw, / scoring for a couple of days with a knife, or using something like a Dremmel?
