Killer video quality review man! A few notes.
The DJI also has superior battery life compared to the original GoPro battery. The endurance battery is the equivalent to the DJI battery
Second, the DJI will not shut off due to over temp, and will keep recording. It kills the screen and all features to keep the camera going. GoPro just stops dead in its tracks!
Nice work Jeff, I love my change to DJI and also, the protection plan with DJI is a one time fee, and covered!
you get the enduro battery as standard with the gopro 12, so its shouldnt be a point to compare the original battery when youd never use it on a hero 12

Do you purposely over expose? If not, I would step up the ND filter on a sunny day like this. DJI looks super good, I definitely prefer Action 3/4 over a gopro.

Just bought the DJI Action 4 and the the DJI MIC 2 setup based off your last video. I can't wait to try them out on the helmet. Question: Can you do a video on your mic setup in your helmet? In the meantime, do you glue a magnet or something on inside of helmet for your DJI MIC2? Thanks!

Did you ever see the Roadxon W1? An expert blog in my country rated it above these 2 action cameras and it is more affordable then both the gopro and dji. It has an 170 degree view so even wider than the dji and 5.3K just like the gopro. I did not use it yet so I can not say anything about my experience but perhaps that could be something for you to try aswell👌🏻

Yeah with GoPro hero 12 I shot great things however base model it sucks you have to get the Max Lens to unlock the wider field of view. With the lens attachment it adds weight but not to much.
Base DJI seems like the better buy however Stability is just a matter of angle as long as your not doing it on top of the Helmet you should be good!

Dji all day fov is better and the audio is better camera quality is about the same as the gopro too

Hope you like the camera dude! I use DaVinci Resolve. The free version is great, and there’s a paid “studio” version if you ever feel the need to upgrade

There’s a dial on the ECU itself. The tuner can load up to 10 different maps🤙🏼

What mount are you using for dji
Also gotta take into account CZcamss compression algorithm and bit rate. Even if you're recording 5k video, if a lot of pixels are changing really fast (like when riding a dirtbike through the woods) the bit rate on youtube wont keep up and will look like a mess. In the MTB scene a lot of people are using the insta360 cam even though spec for spec is worse than a gopro. All that doesn't matter if the gopro is worse in lowlight and doesn't have as good of image stabilization. Hardware can only get you so far if you don't have the software to match.

Are you locking your shutter speed at 1/60 for 30 FPS in these clips?
1/240 at 30FPS. 1/60 negatively impacts the digital stabilization too much for my liking. 1/120 also works pretty well, but I find that 1/240 gives just enough motion blur while still retaining the stabilization

You gotta try a GoPro max and compare that cause I run one and only run into the warping in 360 mode I’ve followed you for years snaggin some of your presets and the dji is smooth af I can’t lie, but I love my max like a mf just don’t have a pc for post production . I tried a few clips at the gym training and Ngl that mf surprised me how good it was especially compared to my iPhone

Dji is much better, audio is so clean and overall view and fov is incredible
also looking at upgrading to a DJI Osmo 4, what ND filter are you running, i saw the kits come with 3x different filters.
I normally run the ND8 and lock the shutter at 1/240, but you can also go ND16 and 1/120 if you want a little more motion blur.

The gopro makes you feel like your watching a pov, the dji makes you feel like the pov
The go pro definitely looks more real, but I like the dji color filter better. Like the go pro is probably more what stuff looks like in real life.
Can I mount the DJI to a gopro mount, or do I have to get a different mount?
The DJI utilizes a magnetic quick-release mount which is nice. The base attaches to a traditional 3-prong GoPro mount, and then the camera quickly snaps on and off of the base

What do you lock your shutter speed at. When I do the standard 1 over double the frame rate. The stabilization doesn’t seem to work very well.
I have them at 1/240 in this video. 1/120 also works pretty well

So just a quick tip for the best realistic video for what the human eye sees and best motion blur you should always stick to the 180 rule wich would be at 30fps 1/60 shutter speed and at 60 fps 1/120 shutter speed
The 180 rule works great for relatively controlled environments, but unfortunately these action cameras require a higher shutter speed in order for the digital stabilization to work. If you run a 1/60th shutter for a helmet cam, the stabilization will be awful. You’re much better off using the 90° rule which is 30fps 1/120 shutter. I still experience stability issues at 1/120 due to the speed I ride at, so I use 1/240

Just Use an ND filter on the go pro to get the correct exposure and shutter speed
As stated in the video, I’m running an ND filter on both cameras besides the first comparison where I purposely left them in auto settings🤙🏼

Hi jeff, I have one more question(sorry I know I'm asking allot), in my gopro videos is a weird sound. It sounds like the gopro is moving in the case, but when I check, the gopro is still. I will be really greatful, if you would do 2 clicks and go to one of my gopro videos to hear for yourself. I'm not writing you just to check my chanell or to get views or anything like that but your opinion. What protecion do you recomend for a action camera(gopro) I use gopro's protective housing. I want to be sure that the gopro is safe if i crash. Thank you, best wishes.
Hey man! Just watched a video. I can’t say I’ve ever experienced that issue, but it definitely sounds like it’s wiggling inside of a case. Which GoPro model is it, and what case are you using? The newer GoPros have mounting feet directly built into the camera and doesn’t require you to use a case. Have you tried that instead?
@@JeffWalker84 It's the gopro hero 12 black if thats whats mean by model, I use protective housing, it's a plastic case around the whole gopro and pretty protective. I really need a good case for protection cuz i can't afford to break or damage the gopro... Thank you so much for the response and your time. I know your not using a case (not that i see) but do you recommend a case? (sorry for my english, I'm european) Just out of curiosity, witch video did you watch😅
I’ve never used a case, but I ALWAYS use the tempered glass screen protectors from Amazon to protect the screens. The lens cover is replaceable as well, so you don’t have to worry about smashing that

Just in time for the DJI 5 and GoPro 13 at the end of next month 😂.
To me the DJI has a very cinematic feel compared to a more real life feel with the GoPro. I prefer the cinematic look.
Also side by side the distortion difference is super interesting. The GoPro has very little distortion in the middle of the frame and it ramps up crazy at the ends, but the DJI is distorted all the way through going tighter in the center with less on the ends to acheive the same FOV. Personaly I prefer the GoPro distortion for MX since most of the time the view right in front is most important.

@@JeffWalker84 Use ND filter, do bit rate high, turn quality on pro, do shutter speeds 2 times the fps, change the max iso to 100-400 this all will improve your quality so much
Hate to break it to you, but those are the exact settings I used in the video except I use 4 times shutter speed because digital stabilization doesn’t work well with the shutter too low

GoPro for image quality, look at the whites from Dji, ( clouds ) all burn out and no details on it. But ..... i like the sound from Dji, but i guess its more about image, so GoPro for me. Nice one Jeff, thanks for the time and effort.
with the custom settings I preferred the GoPro. The DJI was very blown out in the lighter sections of the track and the sky but that could be the settings. On standard settings the difference wasn’t particularly noticeable to me but the DJI was still a bit blown out. I liked the audio on the DJI. If either camera is ever able to represent accurately steepness of hills or accurately represent heights etc that would be the one I buy 👍 Epic comparison brother!
