Surgery isn't always the answer for ligament damage. Aly Raisman had torn ligaments in 2015 and she had to take four weeks in a boot and came back stronger. Maybe what Ragan needs is to find a PT and Nutritionist like Aly did and get her body in sync. Her ankle apparently didn't need surgery anyway based on what I've read. Surgery is hard to come back from too. I hope this year is just a rough one and the next few years she is able to pull it back together. She has talent and that "it" factor. I think she will be back.

They should have refused her and said no. The coach should refuse to coach a gymnast that is injured like that. I know who Zmeskal is she burned out after being pushed to hard and built up too much. She was a Karolyi gymnast through and through. They notoriously made injured gymnasts compete and had a quack as a doctor that allowed it. Ragan is looking like Rebecca Bross....she needs surgery, rehab and to go to a collegiate team. And Simone coming back means silver and bronze will be hugely competitive for every top gymnast in the world.
Ragan is 18 years old and can make her own decisions about her future in her career in elite gymnastics. If she made the decision to not have surgery than that is her decision. Saying that her coaches are pushing her is not fair to them if she is the one that made the decision. I am sure that Ragan's parents, the coaches, and Ragan all sat down to have a conversation about her decisions. She wants to go to the Olympics and that is her main goal. So not matter how much fans becry that and moan about wanting her to take time off to have surgery, rehab, and all she is not going to be satisfied to just "go to a collegiate team" as you say. That injury while pretty serious is not a career killer and she has time before the Olympics. This almost seems like you are writing her off because she is injured as it has seemed like a lot of people have. It is no wonder that her confidence is a little low.
If she wants to continue gymnastics, she needs to take care of her ankle. Otherwise stop this madness, you will hurt yourself for the rest of your life. You are still young, so much else you can do. With your will power there is a lot you can..
Exactly...Amy Tinkler had to take most of this year out after she was injured in the spring. But was also have health care free at the point of delivery. In the US, ankle surgery must cost a lot and would most like affect Ragan's health insurance for life. But Ragan would be in a better position for 2020 if she got treatment now, plus she needs time to adjust to a growth spurt. Simon Biles coming back is a game changer...Plus Mustafina, so the two biggest stars in gymnasts and Angelina Melinkova in form, will mean Ragan will be overshadowed, her chance was last year, Reilly McClusker and Morgan Hurd also look very good..
I think she messed up her chances for 2019 Worlds and 2020 Olympics by trying to come back this season when she really needed surgery. Now she will have to recover next year and who knows if she'll be able to regain her former form in time...
Why does everyone act like he knows what she needs? Honestly, I personally have no idea about her physical health, but I heard her coaches came forward saying she didn't need surgery and her ankle actually healed pretty well. And what I've seen worlds selection camp she looked pretty good.
