      ColorSpouce The boringness is part of the humor. If I were giving students one F O'C story, it wouldn't be this. try The Life You Save May Be Your Own. It's on Yt.

    • @uriahpeep1753
      @uriahpeep1753 Před 3 lety +5

      It was a shocking ending but.......Joy got her comeuppance. Joy had pegged Pointer as a country rube and someone she could easily seduce and strip him of his "Christianity". However, Pointer in his own way was far more clever than Joy in that he perpetrated on her the same kind of indignity that she had planned for him. After I ended the reading......I was struck with this thought.......after Joy had "lost" her leg.....was in a barn loft......and some distance from her house.......and it was a rural area........HOW was she able to get home? O'Connor leaves that chilling conclusion to our imagination. AND.....even beyond that, her mother and Ms. Freeman would have viewed her in a completely different light. A really nasty conclusion all the way round!

      @GarrettD100 Před 10 měsíci

      I didn’t like her through most of the story, but the way that final scene between them was written made me feel scared for her. I guess that’s the point though. The characters are all complex and have good and bad traits. Nobody is that “simple.”

      I did a review on it last year that may help. I looked at it through a more contemporary lens though, focusing on how we'd process the themes today (even themes around asexuality). There's another review by CodeX Cantina that explores it from the perspective of Flannery O'Connor's life at the time. Hope these links help!

    Hey there. I really enjoyed your reading here. Please tell me how you do this with or without copyright approval. I want to record short stories and put them on CZcams or a podcast. I do not want to monetize or profit from it. I simply want to do it for the art of it.

    • @MovieMan101
      @MovieMan101  Před 8 měsíci

      I think as long as you credit the author/artists involved you should be ok. These are just me "readings" of the subject material. So in a way it's like "performance art". Again, just make sure to credit the right person(s) involved!

    • @WhatsWrongWithTheStreet
      @WhatsWrongWithTheStreet Před 8 měsíci

      @@MovieMan101, thanks for your reply. First, Good Country People is a top 5 Flannery story for me. Next, in my recordings, I give credits to author, publisher, and year at the beginning. Like you, I feel it is simply performance art. I'm not a pro and don't want to profit from it. I like finding voices and characterizations just for the art of it. Again, thanks for your reply.

    The reading is too fast. When reading a story for others, it's good to read at an average, steady speed. It gives the reader a chance to grasp the words & understand the concept and the content of the story.

    • @MovieMan101
      @MovieMan101  Před 9 lety +3

      Agreed, I have a tendency to speak quickly over long period of dialogue when I should be pacing. Sometimes I don't even notice that I'm doing it, but I've been attempting to apply that towards future readings and articles and such. I digress, thanks for the input!! :)
