It has been a long time since I wanted the ability to reach through the internet and strangle someone....but that comment made it resurface real quick. How can anybody be a fan of music and not want to hear the original recording...as the artist intended...I just don't get it.

@@snakebite6x6x6 generally agree with you, although i myself commited that sin. Prince - Purple Rain studio version at 8 minutes vs single/radio version at around 4 minutes. i prefer the shorter version without the long intro and everything.

My old friend who trained me in different styles of kung fu and judo, would lose his mind if he had the opportunity to talk to you. The fighters in that era were like superheroes to us.

I lobed playing this on guitar hero 😊 and for some reason I was the only one who got through the whole song when I was playing with my best fiends boyfriend and his band mates. They play guitar and other instruments but I've never..so I was pretty proud of myself 😂
Just so you know the basic template of Dragonforce at this time was Power metal which was/is extremely popular in Europe, and Asia. The reason I said 'was/is' is that 20 years ago speed and melody like this song was the force behind Powermetal, and while some bands still play fast like this now, powermetal has evolved into a more mid-paced AOR sound. But bands like iron Savior, and Stormwarrior, still go heavy and fast so this sound is still out there to find.

Yeah, absolutely want to second kevinrogers816 on request for Tina S. cover of Dragon Force Fire & Flames. The song actually sounds better when she plays it. Would probably recommend BP does some background research on the Beethoven before checking that out; also pointing out that that performance is guitar only -- no vocals. 😉😁

The best thing about Dragonforce is when you watch a live performance and everything, even the vocals, are absolutely perfect. It could almost be them miming to a backing track it's so clean 👌

The lead singer for this song (his name escapes me, the band has had several lineup changes, and I can only remember Herman and Sam, the guitarists) actually did a duet with Sir Christopher Lee (Saruman, Count Dooku, and many, many other roles) called 'The Magic of the Wizard's Dream' in the group Rhapsody of Fire.

Yes, Ronnie James Dio of Dio was one of the pioneers of 'dungeons and dragons' metal in the 80's... NY metal band Manowar also founded their sound on songs about medieval battles ... swords and sorcery... when they debuted in 1982 w/ the album 'Battle Hymns'.
Another founder of the 'power metal' genre was Swedish lead guitarist Yngwie J. Malmsteen (pronounced "ing- vey ma'am steen") who made a name for himself on the West Coast in the band Alcatrazz in the early 80's... He then formed his own band Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force in 1984 and releasing a mostly instrumental debut album, followed by a 2nd album 'Marching out' in 1985 feat lead singer Jeff Scott Soto... Yngwie J. Helloween from (West) Germany made 'power metal' an commercial force when they debuted in the 80's... Theart... 2 albums gained some fanfare ("Valley of the damned" in 2003 and 'Sonic firestorm' in 2004) But it was Dragonforce's 3rd album 'Inhuman rampage' in 2005 that benefitted from the video game 'Guitar Hero'... and scored a successful single 'Through the fire and the flames'... as well as 'Operation Ground & Pound'.
Bassist Frederic Leclercq made his debut on the 4th Dragonforce album 'Ultra beatdown'... which was a tribute to the band's love of video games (and beer!) ... Singles included - 'Heroes of our time'... 'The last journey home'... 🤘🔥
In 2010, Dragonforce released a live album 'Twilight dementia'... They also parted ways w/ original vocalist Z.P. Theart.
Despite the end of 'Guitar Hero' video game, Dragonforce returned in 2012 w/ a new 5th album 'The Power within'... debuting Marc Hudson (vocals)... and quickly followed it up w/ the 6th studio album 'Maximum overload' in 2014... Gee Anzalone (drums) replaced previous drummer Dave Mackintosh.
In 2017, Dragonforce released 'Reaching into infinity'... their 7th album and the last to feature longtime keyboardist Vadim Pruzhanov, who left the band and was not replaced. Dragonforce used session keyboard players in the studio and programmed the parts for their live shows.
8th album 'Extreme power metal' was released in 2019 but the tour was canceled due to the pandemic... Alicia Vigil (bass) replaced bassist Frederic Leclercq on the tour dates and joined Dragonforce full time.

It's funny you said "Yoga Fire" & "Yoga Flame". Herman Li used to try emulate the sounds of older video games on the guitar and you can hear it in his solos. I met him at a Mayhem Festival when this song first came out. He was a cool dude.

@4:04 This genre of music is called Powermetal, and yes, a common theme in powermetal songs tends to be stuff like fantasy/mythology, war, the unbreakable human spirit, badass shit like that. So saying that it reminds you of D&D or LotR is pretty accurate.

My best friend growing up got his first guitar at 10 or 11. By age 13 he was playing like this... Full on Prodigy that would sit in his bedroom shredding like the Greats. Then he'd go to a guitar competition and play something like an AC/DC solo 🙄🤬 I'm honored that I got to share those years with him but saddened that he never had it in him to show the World his Talent.
This is Power Metal! You've reacted to Sabaton before, who are part of the same genre, but belong to a newer wave of bands. You've checked out lots of legacy bands lately, if you want to see where this specific style of Power Metal was created, check out Helloweens legendary "Eagle Fly Free" (1988). There's an amazing newer live performance from their 2017 United Alive DVD, which is worth watching.

@@Rab_Knox I would, under specific circumstances for the definition of "Power Metal" (excluding usage of the term at the time, ignoring Epic Metal or counting it as a PM Subgenre as well as softer Heavy Metal, consider USPM and EUPM equal), go back as far as Dio and Manowar, maybe even counting Deep Purple ("Burn") as Proto-PM, but Motorhead is a big stretch.

True story. Many years ago, when this song was new, I had a friend who loved riding his motorcycle at stupidly unsafe speed. I tell him, man you've got to listen to Dragonforce while you're riding... it'll blow your mind. Fast forward 6 months and my friend tells me I have to check out the best fast motorcycle music ever that he just discovered. It was this song that I shared with him 6 months earlier. As a side note, I'm pretty sure he was listening to this the time he got arrested for 155 in a 55 zone.

Herman Li has a youtube channel. He has a lot of videos just reviewing covers of Through the Fire and Flames, complimenting and critiquing how the guitarists do. I remember there was one where he said something to the effect of "[...] I think that's better than I could've done when I was younger. Good job! This is great!" He's a joy to watch, and you should definitely check out his reactions to the covers and the covers themselves. On your own time, of course, not for the channel.
