Summer Worm Fishing Tricks for Shallow and Deep Water Bass

- Are you missing it? There are so many great ways to fish a plastic worm! Come along with Tim as he demonstrates a 2-bait method to maximize your time on the water when finesse fishing for Summer bass. You can fish from 40+ feet all the way up to the water's edge with these 2 baits rigged a few different ways. You don't need an entire box of baits to catch Summer bass!
Tim's 2 favorite baits for this technique are a senko and a Trick Worm (Netbait T-Mac). By adapting the rigging he can fish both of these baits at a variety of depths. When you think senko your mind immediately goes to fishing it weightless around shallow cover but with a little weight (Neko rig) that bait is suddenly effective in 20, 30, even 50 feet of water! The same goes for the Trick Worm. Most guys see a trick worm and think of the floating worm technique but this bait is incredibly effective on a shaky head, Neko, and exposed jighead as well.
Summer worm fishing can be overwhelming. There are so many great baits that will consistently catch fish (and you know we'll jump down that rabbit whole soon) but it can also be as simple as a couple baits and a couple rigs, to consistently catch fish. Don't let bass fishing overwhelm you. You can catch these fish and you can do it on a budget. Below are links to the exact baits and rigging methods that Tim was implementing in today's video. The links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

You and matt have changed my life , I just caught my pb a week ago and it's a moment I'll never forget
Tim was like lets wrap this up,I gotta start throwing some moving baits!
Tim's skills in front of the camera are spot on here! Clear and descriptive! thank you pal
Just found this chanel and can say I appreciate you showing the missed hits and such and not just all the catches. Bass fishing is all about attempts, if it got a hit then it'll work!
Great information Tim , love the video’s you and Matt put on here👍
Great videos! Thanks for putting them out. Learning a lot.
Thanks for making a video showing how it really is a lot of the time out there. You dont always slam one huge fish after another!
Just started fishing a whopper plopper, I've only got 2 fish on it but I took the advice Matt gave and got the middle size and caught a 4.9 and a 5.11. Both from shore. I haven't been able to fish for about two years due to Radiology school but my god I had a blast throwing that bait. I mentioned on another video that I've learned some much from you guys since my last deployment and probably would have given up if not for your videos. Keep up the good work guys!
P.S. I live in the Northeast near Boston so those are pretty good size fish for up here.
Good lord what a way to start a lure,I guess you have confidence in the Plopper now 🤣😂 and now your hooked for life 👊👊
Those are very nice fish (and I live in the southeast!) - congratulations! Never quit brother....and always remember that you don't have to catch fish to have a great relaxing day!
Wow man 5.11 and 4.9 up here in MA? Damn that’s great
@@hc_gabe4078
Thanks! Actually caught a 6 pounder literally after watching this video on the spro hard swimbait
@@kenmccarthyfishing definitely I couldn't believe it
Awesome job Tim,thank you and my prayer are with the whole team on your road trip,Please come to Rhode Island 🙏🙏👍
Thank you for a very useful tutorial.
If you can go acroos the country, you should make a series about bass fishing Southern California.
Lake Casitas, Castaic, Perris lake, Piru. Smaller lakes but tough.
Can we get a night fishing tutorial, just to see if there are any new techs
He has one up already
There are several videos about night fishing on their channel.
I agree night time for each season of a bass’s life would be great for me. I fish a lot of rivers, creeks and ponds some lakes also and I cane get a bite at night time.
Stoney Lonsome I had that line of thought as well. For me, however, it doesn’t seem to work. I’m good during the day but when the moon is out I have a tough time getting bit aside from just working low and slow.
@Stoney Lonsome honestly you not wrong at all it would seem that darker color baits tend to get more bites simply due to the contrast. And louder baits or ones that produce more vibrations should theoretically attract more bass in low light conditions.
Nice. Thank you Tim.
glad to see you and matt fishing my home lake watts bar.I recognized the areas you were fishing. the worm I use is the zoom ol monster texas rig.
Nice fishing my friend 🎣🎣🎣
Good tips keep it up man from canada
Fun vid Tim. I’m behind watching. I need to catch up. I’ve caught bass on each of my trips so far this year here in MI.
Not sure if you guys have done it but a sonar buyers guide would be awesome! Maybe a top pick for each category/class-(portable,downimaging,sideimaging,budget,high-end) etc. Thanks for the videos, pretty much all i know regarding bass specifically came from this channel. the last two years have been loaded with catches! Was a die hard trout guy but I do not find myself venturing away from bass fishing much anymore!
Thank you for this. I cant catch anything in more then 10ft of water. Im going to give this a try this weekend
Mid-day summer fishing is the real test for a bass fisherman. The biggest fish I catch during these times I find cruising grass lines.
Tim next time can you screen shot your view on the electronics so we can get an idea where you are fishing/targeting(ledge, hard bottom, grass.). thanks. Great channel.....you all have helped me!
Great video! Would really like to hear your guy's recommendation for baitcaster finesse fishing, just picked up a couple of 7'6" Medium Moderate Fast action rods. One for Shakey Head fishing and another for Senko's
There should be a video about “how to catch fish without electronics showing you where they are.” Lol. I’ve been struggling to find where the fish are.
lol yeah till you buy a graph and mark nothing but sand bottom for 4 hours
I usually beat the banks cause I have no way to tell what my bottom looks like lol
Read the bottom of your fishing area with a square bill or football jig. If your rod is sensitive enough you'll be able to tell. If not, you'll figure it out if you have to hop over a rock or branch. I wish i could be more helpful, but it's the best i got. Tight lines brother!
Study the contours of the surrounding topography. Mid day sun reflecting off the bottom will reveal depth differences. Geology on the banks. What kind of vegetation are you pulling up? Count down with a 1/2oz to 3/4 oz jig to find approximate depth......100's of hours experimenting....you'll figure it out if you consider these things.
Try trolling my guy i fish without electronics in my small boat and when i hit a new lake ill run several different rods at different depths trolling just to get an idea
Good video going tomorrow going to try the deep water thing depends on how much water there pulling on Watts bar
"Its a Bass...sort of" 🤣 The little ones gotta eat too Tim!!! #Dinklivesmatter Lol
Great video. What situations would you choose a shakey head vs a texas rig worm?
Would love to see a summertime video on fishing in a lake with all grass.
Was the first rod you used the 2020 St. Croix Legend Xtreme? If it was, what do you think of it and how do you compare it to the NRX?
When is that 360 imaging review coming?!
I know this is out of topic but is the expirde 7’2 med heavy glass with the curado dc good for chatter baits
When you get out fishing in deeper water, do you start with a setup you can keep above the fish before switching to the weighted techniques like the shakeyhead? Could you give me 3 or 4 set-ups that you would try in an order for the deep water schooling fish? Also, i live in northeast Arkansas and the water is just now for the first time this year over 12 inches of visability. So i am fishing pretty stained waters. Thanks, I have been really enjoying your videos and learning a lot!
I really like your videos and the details you provide in the description.
Any way your close ups were a little closer to the camera to see the details and hold it for a second or two. Or maybe off boat in a well lit room? It is your channel and you are very successful, newbie here learning. And just a suggestion.
While you guys are down fishing Tennessee River lakes, I'd love to see a video really breaking down how to target areas to fish out on the ledges during summer. As someone who is just beginning the transition from bank fishing to boat, even looking at a map, going out deep to fish can be a little intimidating. Would love to see your bass genius minds at work breaking down how to identify target zones!
If you need info on the Tennessee river chain specifically, there is so much knowledge out there on them it's almost hard to not know much about how to fish them. Most ledge fishing info comes from people fishing on or giving examples about the TVA lakes.
it would be an honor to fish with you and Matt. I want to see you guys hit The Great Sacandaga Lake in upstate NY!
Hey I have a 7ft. medium/heavy Bass Pro Shops Crankin Stick baitcaster rod that takes 3/8 to 1-1/2 lures. I was thinking about changing to the 7ft.3 heavy length in this rod lure: size 3/8 to 2 ounce. Do you think I could throw the same lures on this rod as you do with the nedium/heavy? I'm worried at the lures on the low end thou.
Nice video man! Keep em Hooked!
Tim, can the shakey head rig and sneko be fished in stained water or does it have to be clear water?
Which bait is in the thumbnail? I need that color combo.
Can you guys do a Giant Ned rig video? I’m very interested, and I don’t hear much about it. I trust you guys, and would love to see a video on it.
Caught ten yesterday on a Shakey head with a yum dinger 5’’ junebug color
Could it be possible if you guys did a review on the new lure, "Duo Realis Nomase Gill Shad?"
please review the lews hank parker casting rod, and the castking crixes serise.
So I need some guidance. I am entirely new to fishing but I have found a small area where I know there are fish and I am catching small bass on watermelon seed worms texas rigged. What can I do to move past this tactic to catch bigger fish. I understand the baits and water depths now. But I really don't know what reel/rod technique to use. What do I physically need to do with the rod and reel while fishing?
What about throwing something like a drop shot with a trick worm for those deeper bass? I still use the shaky head but does the drop shot have any advantages?
If you're catching em than yeah
Yeah in my experience a dropshot rig (I usually use a roboworm) will produce bites when other baits won't. You can use it as a probing bait along with a deep diving crankbait
Question. Why did you chose a worm in those beautiful topwater conditions?
Do you have any videos of the actual process of how you rig these baits?
Yall should come on down to lake Seminole.
Every try fishing in heavy cover with a moss boss lure. The lure has a open hook and you can stop it on top of pads. At that point you can shack the pad and it like ringing the dinner bell. The fish come up from underneath and will knock the lure into the air.
Hay guys, i’m new to bass fishing can you recommend where to start as far as poles and bait. Love the videos great work!
Check in their video archives, any and all of your questions will be answered
What size shakey do you use
Just staring out bass fishing, what did you mean by stopping at your first stop at a "High Spot"?
Really couldn't tell what color you were using on the senko , was that green pumpkin.?
Can we get some more buyers guides? I like those
This might already exist but could u do a video about summer bank fishing please?
What type of tubing do you use for the hook slot? I use O rings, yours looks clear type of tube hose.
They’re called the G7 Worm Protect Tubes. On Tackle Warehouse. Tim covered it in an in depth Neko tutorial in another video.
I really enjoy watching your videos, but most of us don’t have the gear you guys have. We also don’t have the access to being “on the water” I do have the ablity to fish from a boat, but do day to day fishing from shore. I know there are a lot of variables that go into this sport, but I would like to see some more videos tailored to the average fisherman that doesn’t have sponsors and loads of resources to call on. Really like your videos, hope you will tailor some of your vids to the general fisherman, thanks, and stay safe.
Thoughts on JJs Magic to increase bites on these?
We caught a good 7 almost 8 on wacky in a reservoir here also thats decent size
Garrett G is that in inches or pounds? 😁. Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. Congrats on the catch.
Have you guys tried the 6th sense clout worm yet?
I primarily bank fish ponds and big creeks and during the summer my go to baits are always a lizard or paddletail fluke.
What lake is that your own?
my staple neko on Expride 7' med spinning rod braid to leader with gama stinger ..
I'm having a problem on the senkos unless I can clearly see the line...so far off casts or bad conditions/glares/lighting etc. I'm screwed I've been missing alot fish... Any suggestions would be great
High vis braid to fluoro leader
Jimbo Conn I use Berkley Nano-Fil (10#-12# test) in White for all my spinning reels. I tie 6’-12’ of flouralcarbon (8# test) to the White braid using the FG knot with 30 wraps. White braid is easy to see. The FG connection doubles as a Strike Indicator in shallow water.
Be well.
Thanks. Sounds great...much appreciated!
@@muskietime so is there no effective way with wieghtless senko or worms with out seeing the line or on windy days?
love you guys tried 2 times to order from tackle warehouse... first time order took 2 weeks longer than it was supposed to ended up canceling it the 2nd paid for next day shipping so i could get item before trip... get an email saying i needed to pay 15 dollars more since it was going to take another box???? so had to cancel that too is it just me or is this company just horrible customer service cause had to wait 20 minutes to talk to someone who could care less about my issue?
I spent 9 hours throwing topwater, senko, keitech on a swimbait head and fish blowing up out of the water all around me but I only got one bite which I couldn’t get hooked up. I was out from 5:45am:300pm. Do you guys ever have those days?
Most likely carp
Carp
I think it would be great to see an in debt video on how to catch fish in deep water, say like 45 feet. But with the fish suspended at 30-35 feet. How would you catch them. Bottom contact goes to far below them, most cranks only go 20ish feet down and end up being to high. How would you get the bait in there face and provoke a reaction strike at those depths. In those cases I’ve used underspins and counted down to where I feel like it’s deep enough, or the same way with LV500 but had no luck. I have the same issue on highland and lowland reservoirs. I’d would be very interested to see what you would do in same situation.
I know exactly what I'd try first. CFL Chatterbait. With a mismatched trailer.
Jigging spoons is what I like, but it has to be videogame fishing as in watching the spoon go down to the fish and how the fish react.
Was this on Chic or Watts Bar?
👍
What was that @ 10:03? Carp?
What color is the worms in the thumbnail?
You guys should come down and fish cherokee lake and Douglas lake you passed both of them when you came threw tn Douglas lake is a awesome lake to fish offshore in the summer and cherokee is a great small mouth lake. Largemouth has gotten to be tough to catch the last few years on cherokee but small mouth are killer on cherokee
Hunter Jarnigan I absolutely love both lakes but I love Cherokee the best. Largemouth are still there and in good numbers. They should definitely give both lakes a try.
Ugh I guess ill add some more stuff into my tacklewarehouse cart lol
Make sure a trailer hook or "stinger" in in that cart thats why he missed all those fish
What lake? Are y’all still in Tennessee?
I know you and Matt like to fish braid to mono. How do you keep from backlashing when your knot goes through the eyes. I tie the Alberta and the Albright knots. Although I like the braid to mono I may have to go to one or the other. Help.
It shouldn't backlash unless you're trying to get too light of a lure out there on too heavy of a line/under the weight castable by the reel or you have micro guides and the knot really doesn't fit through. Like it might stop it a bit or slow it down, but nothing a bit of thumb can't handle. They use blood knots which aren't any smaller than an alberta.
I’ve seen anglers have trouble with braid to some leader because the leave excessive tag ends on their knots or when they use rods with micro guides.
My pond/lake is bout 10 ft deep max and lots of slimy weeds. Kind of like snot best type of setup?
Strike king 10xd.
Drop-shot with a longer leader will keep the worm up out of the slime.
No lie, one of the best senko colors use is : Smoke (No flame)
2nd! How is this possible?
Still trying to get the hang I’ve fishing would u mind tell me how a bite feels like or maybe even a video
It’s really hard to tell someone what a bite feels like but if I were to explain it if your fishing a crank bait or blades jig bites are obvious. If you’re fishing a bottom contact bait and you thing you have a bite raise your rod a little bit and don’t reel or move your rod. If your rod tip stays still no bite but if it’s twitching you got a fish. Hopefully this helps.
Last week before the full moon I killed it using a 1/16 flatlands weedless ned head on a 6.3 inch Sixth sense Devine shakey worm in about 2ft of water. Got 8 all over 2+ pounds.
Can yall do a video specifically about fishing in Lilly's pads in the summer cause alot of the ponds I fish are just covered in lily pads ????
Top water froggin!!!!
Sounds like the perfect place to throw all your treble and exposed hook baits.
@@k3v015Mk right lol
Frog lures, floating worms (Texas rigged w/o weight), swim jigs, 10” -12” worms with 1 oz tungsten bullet weights or (my favorite) a buzz bait in the open holes or around the edges. These are my choices on the lake closest to me that has large areas of lily pads. You can throw these lures on 30+ pound braid.
CONFUSED!! Please clear up a source of confusion. T.B. says that bass either stay shallow or split off an go to deep water during summer. Almost every lake in Texas experiences the thermocline. My lake has a 10-12ft T-cline. How can they be "deep" if there's not enough oxygen??? All my bass suspend over deep water, just above the T-cline. We can't fish anything deeper than 12ft. Help??
Depth is relative. In a pond deep might be 6ft, on some reservoirs it can mean 80ft+.
@@ScuffedEngineer Thx, Shadow. That's understood. The real question is, why are guys throwing bottom baits (like shaky heads) in deep water when there's no fish below 12ft?
Eric Wolfe take a look at this, maybe it will help. sfrc.ufl.edu/allenlab/Popular%20Articles/Time%20to%20Think%20about%20the%20Thermocline.pdf
Great video Tim I am starting to have great success using worms but as a bank angler there are not many area options tough at times. Anywho...could you review the Zman Giant TRD I purchased some and want to know what you guys think of it! Thanks!
Just wanted to add a little bit of observational info to your worm fishing video. Granted he is in Canada, spring time, and in a pond, but his underwater worm find at the 5:00 mark does show what bass might be feeding on and why a ned rig in the early spring works. enjoy. If linking to other youtube videos is not allowed please delete.
4 $300+ rods on a $20k bass boat fishing for a living. I'm envious.
not to discourage you, but I'm sure their boat is 3-4X that price....
1st maybe, it's been 36secs.. Given the choice, I choose both baits weightless.
Weightless wacky around isolated grass patches is killer. I always feel that if there is a fish in it I can catch it with that bait.
@@jefferyholland Most definitely, weightless T-rigged or wacky are my most confident methods almost yr round.
"it is a bass, kinda" lol
Daiwa Certate????
What the heck was that at 10:00?
What baits/ bait colors do you suggest for water that looks like Yoo-hoo milk? Lol
Good information but can not see you working the rod . Your back is to much toward the camera. I need the help on how you work the rod with using a worm. Thanks

what about heavy cover? bass love heavy cover in summer. weedless........................
