Hello Folks!
I hope I find you all well. Today I made this absolutely delicious potato bake! This works really well as a side but would be just as tasty on it’s own as a lunch, or even as a main meal :) You could add all sorts of things to this to make it your own…sweetcorn, mushrooms, peas, leeks, herbs :) shredded chicken would also be great in this and change up the cheese to suit yourself.
Everything I used will be below.
-Cheryl x

What I used - Serves 5-6 as a side
* 700g (25 oz) Potatoes - I used Maris Piper
* A little olive oil for frying
* 1 Large onion - Thinly sliced
* 1 Teaspoon minced garlic or two cloves finely sliced
* 400g (14 oz) Cooked ham or bacon - cubed or cut into chinks
* 400g (14 oz) Chicken soup - I used Heinz
* 200g (7 oz) Condensed chicken soup - I used Campbells
* 300g (10.5 oz) Grated cheese - I used Gruyere, but cheddar works well too
* Salt & pepper to taste __________________________________________________________________________

Good evening folks! Thank you for stopping by for this weeks wee recipe 🥰
This looks so comforting. Would you recommend putting in any milk or cream to make the sauce richer with the condensed cans of soup? Also, have you tried this with corn? I have to try this dish soon.
Very grateful for everything you have done for the channel. :)
@@DougTrovinger Hiya :) oh yes, a dash of cream would be lovely in the sauce and I imagine corn would be great too.
Are you sure you neant a couple of tablespoons of salt in the potatoes????? Surely you meant teaspoons, which also seems a lot....
Me, starving....wondering what to have for tea....looks amazing! 😊
Good day from the states. This dish looks quick and easy. Add a side salad and you have a great meal.
Thanks Cheryl, I will definitely give this a try, anything involving potatoes and cheese I'm all over it 😋
Oh me too Lesley! 😁
I'm with @lesley ... potatoes: good; cheese: good. Mushroom soup: good. Cooked in the oven: good ... what's NOT to like !!
often wondered what different type of potato recipe to have for a change cheryl and this just hits the spot, looks delish ,thankyou for the idea
🤤🤤Thanks a bunch Cheryl, that's a stone and a half back on!!😋😋
😆😆😆😆
So easy to add some green veg to it, too! Broccoli would go. Celery...
Thanks, Cheryl. I will make this.
Good tip using the soup to make your sauce 👍 Thanks 👍
I use mushroom soup to make my fish pies
And I use chicken soup when making pheasant pies
I Use Lidl soups though as it’s just a base, and I add to the flavour with different herbs 👍
This recipe is a winner for sure 👍✌️❤️
years back I used to use Campbells condensed for sauces - why have I forgotten about it !!
It's funny the things you forget about isn't it! 🙃
I've forgotten bc I'm salt sensitive and my dietitian is a fun killer
Looks very delicious Cheryl .❤️❤️❤️
My late mother used to make dishes like this. Hers had chicken pieces in it, plus rice in place of potatoes.
Chicken would be great in this...and sweetcorn! 😋
Oh, my mom taught me the chicken/rice/water chestnuts/soup/dry onion soup casserole when I was in grad school. A time saver! 5 minutes, stick it in the oven, walk away! But the first time you have it after a while.....well, it's best if you live alone 😅 💨
Oh I do love a recipe using cans of chicken soup. It always adds a really delicious layer of flavour, and there's plenty of all sorts of the good stuff in this recipe Cheryl. So happy to see that much grated cheese going on top! I think I'd like to make that gruyere too, for extra luxury. I can hardly wait to try it!
Hi Cheryl I just this recipe You are a wonderful Cook thank you 🙏🏻 for sharing it God bless you 🙏🏻✝️☮️🇺🇸🇺🇸
Little thought, how about a can of chicken and mushroom soup and then the Campbell chicken? Tescos does a nice soup. Might be nice with some peas in it too.
Oh that's a good idea Steve! shredded chicken would be nice too....and even sweetcorn 🙂👍
I was going to cook beef ragu on Saturday night but now I'm cooking this served up with sliced tomatoes and a fresh salad. Thanks mate. Can't wait for Saturday now
Aw brilliant...that sounds like a plan! ☺👍 Mind let me know how you get on!
I now know what’s for tea tomorrow night :) thank you 👍
Well that looks so yummy and I’m definitely trying this one …. Tonight Cheryl I had sausage rolls mash and beans because I saw your what’s for tea video so thought I’d give it a try ‘delicious it was ‘ thanks Cheryl ❤
Oh brilliant! We love that...so simple too! 🙂👍
That looks yummy! Looks like something my eldest sister’s husband has done for me before today - he’s not afraid to use proper ingredients - don’t think he’s used soup in it - good way of employing soup - my late mother used to just open up a tin of soup and water it down “It makes it go further!” - no - it’s called “Cream of … soup” because it’s got cream in it - pour council pop over it and it’s no longer Cream of … soup!
Looks great
I will DEFINITELY do this, my always hungry brother will LOVE IT.
Looks so yummy! I never met a potato I didn't like.

Thank you so much June! 🤗
Thanks for sharing. I always enjoy your content. We make this in the slow cooker, layering the uncooked potato and onion slices with ham, cheddar cheese and cream of chicken soup. Cook for 8 hours on low. Quick and tasty.
@CindyMarie528 Thanks for your slow cooker suggestion, I will have to give it a go too. ❤
Drooling

Now That's Looks delicious, Thank you 👍
Omgoodness! I'm giving this a go this weekend Cheryl.
awesome! had to adapt it a little as I didn't have the campbells condensed, just used some Philli to thicken it and I added some leftover broccoli, the family loved it as a main with some crusty bread on the side, love your recipes thank you.
Are you sure you mean tablespoons of salt in the potatoes?
Thanks for sharing will give it a try x
gonna make this, thank you!
Boy, that looks GOOD !!
(From Southern California)
I'm definitely going to give this a try.
Cheryl thank you, it's delicious, also added a few mushrooms x
Looks so grand, yum.
That looks delicious
I need to move to Scotland. Not o my does the food you present look/sound yummy but your accent is wonderfully charming!
Ooo that looks yummy, can I come around for tea? I live in S Wales but it would be worth the trip Cheryl lol
Making this today. Thank You
My mum used to do that yummy
TY. Oh this looks delicious. I'll be making it but using Smoked Turkey and my powered soup mix (it replaces canned cream soup. ) I bet you could make this in your air fryer on these hot summer days. Love ya.
Looks so good cheryl a wee change Thankyou xx😂😂🏴🏴🏴🏴
I have made this and added some halved cherry tomatoes to the cheese topping, very nice. OK, I admit it, I am a tomato addict. 🤣
Just making beef and broccoli x
Oh wonderful! Do you have it with rice? 🙂
@@WhatsForTea yes with rice. Gorgeous my husband eat most of it.
I'm remined of Pan Haggerty.
Yay for Pan Haggerty! x
Thanks Cheryl ❤
Mmmm sooo delicious thank you ❤👍🤗
This looks yummy. I’ll see if I can get the canned soups here.
yummy
I make mine from raw potatoes and a white sauce. I add green beans sometimes.
Yummy! But: no parsley on top? 😉
Not this time Bea 😂😂😂
Yummo Cheryl 😊😊
Hi Cheryl, once again a tasty looking dish 😋. Just made something similar for my tea but with pasta rather than tatties as I had cooked ham to use up. Will definitely be trying your potato version next time. Thanks for sharing. 🙏
You're more than welcome David! Thank you 🙂👍
😋💕👌👌
That does look tasty. I might put bacon in and maybe use a different flavor of soup, like cream of mushroom, cream of onion, or cream of celery, Campbell's has lot's of flavors, but sometimes it's hard to find the one you want.
Thank you for sharing i have a package of those potatoes with bacon in that you fry (like your dauphinoise thst you buy from lidl) might use those up and add onions and chicken soup i only have the condensed one so will use a whole tin of that and finish with cheese and in the oven. See how it turns out lol x
cheesy very nice, Merrick New York here
Thx cheryl
Looks great cheryl. I used spam dint have ham.😂
Hi, love this recipe and used after Christmas. I have 1 chunk ham vac sealed and I shredded way too many potatoes for hashbrowns, can I make this with raw shredded potatoes? I appreciate it, tyvm
Nice
Hello there Cheryl. That looks delicious, could you do it with pasta x I'm going to try this out, thank you x
You should try it with tinned cream of celery or Mushroom or cream of potato, instead of the cream of chicken. May go with the recipe better. I would slice the potato before boiling, will speed up their cooking, avoid needing to handle them hot or waiting for them to cool. Throwing in some peas, cauliflower, or broccoli or some other veggie would work too I would think. Anyways, a nice dish, I will have to give it a go. Thanks for the idea.
Agree … don’t like cooked potatoes being frozen. Something happens to them and they don’t taste nice imo 😊
To make it healthier you could switch the ham or bacon for chicken or spinach. (Less salt, not processed).
Dont add salt to the potatoes.
Dont add salt to the onions.
Switch 2 cans of (salty, processed) soup for homemade cheese sauce (flour, butter, milk, cheese).
Can make a cheese roux sauce for about 30p.
2 cans of batchelors/heinz soups shoves the cost up enormously.
Heinz chicken soup £1.70 and batchelors condensed chicken soup £1.25...thats £3 that could buy more food.
Why not set up your own CZcams Channel? It's always much easier to criticise than to create - and you did in in spades here. Shame on you.
We are having Shredded barbeque chicken sandwiches with Cole slaw and French fries. If I were to make that onion potato bake would I have to use the whole can of Campbell's and add milk? We don't have any that isn't condensed here.
Yum,can i have a piece?😮
Does it work with mushroom soup i wonder
Mmmmm❤
This sounds like you wonderful and saucy
👋 hi Cheryl, owo , this looks gorgeous, mmm can you post 📫 me a slice?😮 I will pay you
Cheryl, it looked lovely until I saw the soup additions - sorry🇨🇦🇨🇦
That look yummy but I don't like cheese ❤
oh yes proper stick ta yer ribs food
Definitely! 😁
Couldn't eat this, its the synthetic taste of the soup and its gloopy texture.
