  • Here's a video I put together setting up and trying out my new M-Audio Oxygen Pro 49 MIDI Controller with my DAW, Logic Pro on Mac OS X. I go my impressions through first connection, registration, software download, and then a number of the features of the controller. Let me know if it is helpful.

    I'm going to get reacquainted with my pro 49. I learned several things watching this and enjoyed your playing and demos. If you ever felt inclined to do an in depth video, I'd definitely watch it. Thanks for taking the time to put together an entertaining and informative video. 🙏✌️

    Great vid, not too many vids show off the functionality of the Oxygen Pro series. I ordered an Oxygen Pro 49 a couple of days ago, will be delivered today. I am excited to give it a run out. Midi controllers and DAWs are very new to me so, I have a lot to learn after only ever using old analogue Keyboards and sequencers.

      Glad it helped. I still don't use all the knobs and stuff like I would my hardware synths. I find it easier just to make those tweeks on screen with my DAW and soft synths. Good luck!

      Could you perhaps please help me out.

    Your video is pretty good. But whole point was to show how you set it up. Nor just say 'so I set it up, with presenting' its video for people that just bought it. So it would be so useful to see the screen recording of how its been set up.
    In next shot your synth is already pre loaded

      I understand. The thing is, the M-Audio software is pretty comprehensive and the set up for each compatible DAW is covered in their materials. I would go back to their website, or even chat with tech support to get what you need.

    Hello! Thanks for the video, it cleared out a couple doubts of mine. Still, I don't know why but I can't find the way to asign each slider to each channel. I've gone through the edit settings in the keyboard and assigned them all to the corresponding channels, but it still doesn't change anything inside the app

    • @EricCPowellMusic
      @EricCPowellMusic  Před rokem +2

      I am not sure exactly what you mean, but first off you need to understand that there are different modes. When I use the DAW integration with Logic (Mackie mode) and have the appropriate mode selected (last button under slider 9) the each slider controls a different track in my DAW. The buttons can serve as mute, solo, rec, depending on how the mode button. But you have to set up your DAW software to connect. I would advise you to check out M-Audio's great videos on how to connect with your DAW.

      @EricCPowellMusic  Před 2 lety

      Hmm. It sounds like you set everything up. I would go back and check that everything was set up and that you did not miss anything. If your Oxygen Pro is used, you may need to do a factory reset of the settings with the app (might be a good idea anyway). If none of that works, I suggest contacting M-Audio support for help.

    How about the keys feel of the oxygen pro when compared to novation mk3 when played live?

    • @EricCPowellMusic
      @EricCPowellMusic  Před rokem

      I dunno. It depends on what you are looking for. The Oxygen Pro are thick keys and semi weighted. They work great but do have a little sound to them. I really do like the Novation keys. They are slicker (smoother) and maybe have more of a synthesizer feel, although they may be slightly weighted as well.

    • @EricCPowellMusic
      @EricCPowellMusic  Před 2 lety

      Your question: "How do I activate this animation of the leds from the beginning? I have an oxygen pro 61 but it doesn't"
      I am not sure exactly what you are asking, but I think you are wondering about the lights behind the pads. The colors of the pads are determined by either your DAW setting or your Preset setting. And you can customize the colors using the PRESET EDITOR app which is part of the software download.
      Also, after some inactivity, the pads ad buttons will start to flow colors. But that is only when the controller is not being activated.

      I just re-read your question and realized I wasn't very specific. For one, the Oxygen Pro does allow the keybed signals and even key ranges to go out via different MIDI channels. At the same time, Mainstage allows you to split a keyboard and assign different ranges for different instruments.

      @@EricCPowellMusic I've followed this article and done all this several times and still not working for me :( One of the many issues is that if I swich my tap tempo to "external" on my Pro 49, it then just cuts signal altogether when I select the arp... works fine when it's set to internal... that and every one of my faders (1 thru 9) all control the pitch bend. I was hoping for a more intuitive setup out of the box. For some reason it's not mapping much properly other than the pitch and mod wheels.

      Not sure about Big Sur. I would def check M-Audio site before upgrading and that's the same advices for any hardware or software. Each new Mac OS has many things that get changed. You need to give 3rd parties time to make the adjustments to their software. I am currently running Catalina and am having no issues.

    • @EricCPowellMusic

    • @EricCPowellMusic
      @EricCPowellMusic  Před 2 lety +1

      Or maybe you are asking about the feel of the keybed? If you are asking about the 49, then it is more of a "synthesizer" action, rather than a weighted or semi-weighted keybed. That said, the keybed feels great. I am not sure, but if you are looking for a weighted effect, maybe a larger 76 key controller might have that. You will have to check specs.

    • @EricCPowellMusic
      @EricCPowellMusic  Před 2 lety +2

      There are two ways to adjust the sensitivity. One is to use the preset editor software. Under "global > key sensitivity," you can set it to Low, Medium, High, and 4 other settings. The other is simple as well. On the controller press the "Settings" button, down arrow to "Vel Curve (Keys)." Then you can set to Soft, Normal, Hard, and Off. Pretty straight forward. For more info, you can download the user manual at m-audio.com/

    Hey Eric, I just got an Oxygen Pro 61 in the mail today, and right away I noticed the black keys send a much higher velocity than the white keys, when Im trilling on a g and gsharp for example the g sharp juts out like crazy. Roughly 15 ticks higher if I examine the midi. On a 10 year old maudio keystation I can get consistent volume without really trying.
    Ive ordered a replacement but Im just wondering, does yours respond like this? Im wondering if maybe I should go with a different brand. I’m really hoping to stay with this board because the control panel is so good.

      I am not sure what you are asking. The DAWs are mostly software that work on computers. Sometimes there are DAWs for mobile or tablet. Otherwise it is called a sequencer. Here I am using Apple's Logic Pro on a Mac. If you are asking about the M-Audio controller, then know that it is not a DAW. It is a tool to control plugins or other hardware through MIDI.
