- © CLAUDIO MORTINI™◊ Il nome Libia compare nelle antiche lingue egiziane, fenicia, greca, ebrea, latina e araba. Già ai tempi di Ramesses II si parlava di alcune tribù libiche e successivamente nei documenti dei faraoni la Libia veniva citata spesso. La recente fine delle sanzioni ONU ha fatto sì che la Libia, da sempre un piccolo universo a sé stante, si sia aperta al resto del mondo e si sia lasciata scoprire dai primi turisti. Le mete interessanti di certo non mancano, a partire dalla capitale Tripoli. Tripoli, in arabo "Tarabulus", detta anche "la bianca sposa del Mediterraneo", conserva come uno scrigno prezioso le tracce dell'originario splendore: nelle numerose moschee e nella medina della città vivono le tradizioni di un tempo, mentre nelle linee architettoniche pulsano i ricordi della conquista ottomana e della colonizzazione italiana.

Interessante vedere la differenza di tenore di vita dal 2003 a oggi (2010/11): in pochi anni Tripoli, le persone e tutti i luoghi del filmato sono diventati più ricchi. I bar sono provvisti di arredi moderni e bevande in quantità, l'abbigliamento oggi è più colorato e meno sobrio. Le auto sono di grossa cilindrata. I suk ricchi di merce (orientale però...). Direi anche che i libici recentemente apparivano più spavaldi e allegri. Bel film
E purtroppo si è ritornati indietro completamente. Ora le donne sembrano venute da Kabul.

Bisognava lasciare la libia in mano ai turchi. Non so quali filmati avresti fatto vedere .
Back then when Libya was more stable and rich (even though it still is stable and rich but I don't think as much), so many people came to live in Libya for work and got paid too much money which was some of the highest salaries in the world.
This question is for anyone who can answer it. Is the Libyan culture similar to the culture in Saudi Arabia? I know there are many similarites (i.e., same religion, no dating allowed, segregation of the genders, etc.). But, is there a guardianship law there like there is in Saudi Arabia?. Is the culture a little more relaxed? Was Libya ruled by Italians at one point? Just curious as to the differences. Thank you !

As for the first question... No the culture differs from Saudi, our culture is Amazighi culture not Arab & dating is allowed kind of!!! but definitely there's no separation based on gender.
Libya was ruled by Italians in the period between 1913 to 1945.
I didn't understand the question about culture.

Acxel 5 Thank you for taking the time to reply. It does sound pretty different than Saudi Arabia. It's easy to just assume ( but a mistake to ) that Muslim countries have the same culture, or societal norms. I had mistakenly assumed that Libya also had gender segregation and the guardianship system only because it is another Muslim country and I thought the customs were pretty much the same. I'm glad to learn otherwise and thank you for informing me. It could be that Saudi Arabia has such strict customs because that is home to Mecca, and maybe they have to maintain strict standards for Islam? Only a guess... So, in school, ( in Libya ) starting in primary grades, young girls and boys learn in the same classroom? Side by side? And do people also speak Italian along with Arabic? Is the country mostly Sunni or Shite? And...last question...are Libyans considered Arabs, or Africans? I should probably just use Google rather than bother you with all my questions. Sorry! 😊 You know, I had a Libyan friend whom I met when he was here studying in America, and he was so nice and generous and hospitable. Because of him, I have the greatest regard for the Libyan people.
Acxel 5 Sorry, you had already answered my question about if Libyans are Arabs. I just googled it and it talked about Libyans being Berbers originally. And the region is primarily Sunni. Very interesting to read about the Libyan history. Thanks again for your reply!

Islam is دين الله (Way of Life given by Allah). How mankind should live in this world. It is not made by Muslim. It direct or has it's root in Qur'an and authentic حدیث (sayings of Prophet) Therefore Islamic laws are in broader intersts of all being. Islamic laws are better than any other man made laws of any country.
Problem of Europe is that it does not understand / realise this fact. They think that theirs laws are better than Islamic laws.
Almighty Allah says :
The revelation of the Book is from Allah,the Mighty, the Wise.
Lo! We have revealed the Book unto them (Mohammad) with truth; so worship Allah,making the دين (Deen) pure for Him (only).
Surely pure Deen is for Allah only
(Qur'an,39:1-3)
Kindly make your mind clear that the the mankind is created by Almighty Allah -- the Master Creator.
We have to study and research the Holy Qur'an sincerely. It is in broader interests of mankind.
Follow Islam to make your life better in this world and in Hereafter.
