The performance is simply one of the greatest masterpieces in history - no jokes, this e I’ll probably change my life forever. I really can’t describe how appreciative I am of this music video as a queer person. To me, this is such a profound display of the celebration of queerness. Whether this person identifies as a man, non-binary, gender fluid, whatever it may be, they are 100% comfortable in their skin and are putting their queerness on full display for everyone to see. It is so beautiful to witness. Thank you to Jessie Ware, Nicolas Huchard and everyone else involved for such a substantial work.
@@kachi9293 Actually, I am gay. I also lived in fear of being harassed/assaulted/killed by those who might’ve learned that I am gay. That’s another reason why I connect so much to this video, because I wish I was as comfortable with my queerness as this person is despite the world rejecting them for it. It sounds like we have different definitions of what being queer is. I mentioned gender fluidity and non-binary in my comment simply because I did not want to misgender the performer.
And I actually did catch the reference of this being reminiscent of 90s drag. It actually really reminds me of 80s/90s Harlem ballroom scene. That makes it so much more powerful to me, because this person is embracing their queerness despite the danger surrounding them for it, even if they need to do it behind closed doors. That’s the beauty in it for me since it relays the message that no amount of oppression will stop us from celebrating who we are, even in secret. I thought about including that in my original comment as well, and perhaps it would’ve prevented your false assumption of me if I did.
I don’t want to tell you that you’re wrong for your experience or understanding of this video, because your interpretation of it is totally valid. But I don’t appreciate that you have assumed I am not part of the LGBTQ+ community and henceforth have attempted to invalidate my connection to this video. You see the video as a symbol of the oppression queer people have faced, and I see the video as a celebration of queer people still being true to themselves despite the oppression they have faced. Both of our interpretations are valid. But please don’t assume I’m not gay and that I misunderstood the video simply because I have a different interpretation than you do.

But it seems as though we are not going to agree on this since, again, we seem to have different definitions of the term. He has his definition, you have yours, and I have mine, and that’s fine. The best bit of the album actually lies at the very end. It's a tasty, luscious morsel of Jessie's velvety vocals blended with a poignant melody and gorgeous backing vocals, perfect to unwind to in the car.
