What's your favorite affordable drum mic? Which ones do you want me to check out?
Drum set with only sm57's lol
I like the EV PL 33 on Kick and a pair of T.Bone RB 500 ribbon microphones as overhead or room mics. I would be great to see a comparison between the RB500s and the SE Electronics X1Rs.
Audix Dp7 drum mic set.
Absolutely amazing mics.
Just replace the drum clamps for stands.
In the last months I fell in love with Shure PG52. It's kinda poor man's Beta 52, but with the right placement it actually just needs a cut around 250 hz - and I like it better than the Beta 52. As you can guess, I prefer less pre-eqd mics.
I don't know if they are still made, but Samson had a drum mic kit with 7 mics ($350 approx), and the Kick mic the Qkick was impressive sounding for such a cheap mic.
Another superb video from Kristian! You Rock my friend!!
I love how you are renowned as one of the best modern producers and you clearly aren’t trying to compete but trying grow the artist community and humble enough to appreciate the diverse talents of others like Kristian! Much respect to both of you.
@@evanjames8748 wow! Thanks ever so much for your wonderful comment! Yes, Kristian is an amazing talent! I learn so much from him!
This sounds absolutely incredible. Love the tone of the drums
Thanks for all this information! All your videos on speakers were really helpful in my tone quest, and learning more on mics will definitely be useful!
This was a really cool and timely video! Finally breaking out of quarantine and the drummer and I can start working together again. These mics will definitely be considered for our upcoming work!
For some one who's setting up a recording studio, this kind of video is VITAL, CRUCIAL, VERY IMPORTANT!!
Thank you so flipping much, Kohle!
Your channel is amazing, man! Greetings from Brazil
So glad I found out about Kohle through URM because all these videos are so goddamn useful :)
Those were the days on the URM channel. I was doing a lot more drum content there. Need to catch up on this channel drumwise.
@@KohleAudioKult I like your current content better than URM; this feels more like buddies hanging out and dicking around with tech :)
I always enjoy watching your videos! Super helpful and informative. I recently just got into recording and am slowly building up my mic locker. I love the way those ribbons sounded on the overheads and room mics! Thanks for sharing!
That was very helpful for me as a newbie when it comes to recording live drums. Thanks Kristian! 🤘🏻
I’ve gotten good results with e604s for toms surprisingly. Back when the audio techinca atm25 was only 100$ used those were great. Too bad too many people found out how great they are and. Now they are 200+
Atm25 was also surprisingly cool on guitar cabs!
Great content as always! I think SE Electronics still don't get the recognition that they deserve, great mics especially considering the price tag
I use Lewitt and Se , because you are good, and they openly say they are made in China for the best quality!!!
Thank you for your hard work making all these videos. They have been my main source of information as I'm learning to record myself.
Hi Kohle! Thanks for making all these fantastic videos! The content in here are just gold!
Watches video on cheap drum mics.... Leaves wanting a $1700 pair of condensers 😩
Damn! Sorry! So you liked the RM17s?
@@KohleAudioKult Ha no need to apologize it was a great comparison and I liked the SE stuff, I just like to use overheads as mostly cymbal mics and I thought that the RM17s sounded great for that application. Cheers!
Beyer M201s are great snare mics. A sweet upper register.
It's my go-to snare mic, paired with a 441 as snare bottom mic.
I finally bought one, and it's in the post at the moment. Definitely not what would be classified as an "affordable" mic though! I'm very interested to see how it fares against my Telefunken M80...
@@nitraus666 441 is a great choice for bottom snare. This is a, “why didn’t I think of that,” moment.
@@nitraus666 I use the same combo😊👍.
Thanks for the video Kristian! never used an sE before but I might check em out
Hey Kohle, the "Mics used" link does not work. :-(
Working now?
sE Electronics is such a massively underrated company. I absolutely love my X1 S vocal mic, super clean and clear, good bass, amazing price. I'd love to get my hands on a sE2200 or even their sE4400a. Everything they make is affordable and beautiful and sounds amazing.

Again detailed, helpful and entertaining! Love your way of explanation, keep rockin!
Great video. I'm just starting a home studio and it's so useful to see this comparison and get an idea of the sound from this mics
Sounds great! Link seems to be broken though 💔
Does it work now?
@@KohleAudioKult yes! Sorted 😎
Awesome kohle I'm already on the email list how can I enter the contest?
You comment is done, so just send the email so I know you're in!
Always enjoy these kind of videos. I've been looking at the SE8 for a little while so nice to hear them in action. The Audix D2 sounded nice too!
Hey Kristian-You are one of my favorite newer producer you-tubers-and...you know I never thought about darker mics being easier to brighten up. Thank you for posting!
Damn Kohle, don't do that, I need to blame the equipament, you got a very good sound out of cheap mics. Now i'll have to find a different excuse to sound like sh*t.
Haha! Sorry!
Haha, nicely done CrushingAxes!
@@Producelikeapro 🤣🤣🤣
Great video, loved the comparisons- thx for highlighting some of sE's offerings!
Great video as ever man! I almost bought a pair of these X1R recently. I've had a trusty X1 for about 10+ years and its most used as outside kick mic it sounds great. Really punch above their price point the SE stuff.
V7X looks great, going to pick one up to try as an SM7b alternative.
I never win shit, that's why I didn't think twice about selling my soul to the devil 👿 🤣
One day I'll have cool mics, and a pointy tail.
have never seen keller get triggered until he started talking about that tom clamp
I was searching for a video like that for so long!!! There are so many cheap mics that work but don't sound that good. And now I can make a choice. THANKS!!! 🤩
Hey Kristian! What an awesome video once again! Thanks for the great content you always delivers! 🖤
Very helpful stuff mate, danke! Will absolutely come back when ordering drum mic's this summer!
id love to see more vids on mic comps! very cool thank you for this!
Man, phenomenal content. Thank you for taking the time to do this.
Another great video from one of my favorite CZcams channels! Thanks for sharing your tips and experience! I'll have to look into the SE Electronics mics for my small studio. Prost!
Awesome video. I like when people like you that have good gear, good rooms and such show that you can make good recordings with cheaper gear!
Killer comparisons! I absolutely love my v7x. Overhead upgrades are the next on my current drums wishlist
Thanks for the video Kristian!!! I need this X1RS mics.
Thanks so much for another great video!!!! Super stoked to hear the se electronics in more depth!!!!! Much love from Edmonton Canada!!!!!
This information was extremely helpful as I have recently opened my own studio! Thank you for this!
As someone shopping for drum overhead mics now for my currently in progress home studio, videos like this are very helpful. Thank you very much.
Thank you for this video! Just added these mics to my wishlist :)
I really love Kristians Videos! Its always a pleasure to watch. I hope he never stops!
i have never heard of SE before up until i came across your videos and NTM session. i end up purchasing a pair of se7 condenser mics and has been the best mic purchase i have done. i have not used a Ribbon mic and looking forward in adding one of those to my mic library. keep up the awesome job !
Great stuff 🤘🏻 Always love hearing your opinions and tips on recording.
Hey Kohle, now had the time to watch the video - sooooo awesome. We are currently planning recording drums for our upcoming album, and these microphones would be a godsend! But whoever participates in this, good luck to all of 'em!
Always loved sE !! Thank you for this video man. Rock n Love ! 🤘🏻🖤🤘🏻
Been looking forward to a drum mic video for awhile, thank you!
More in the works! You're wlecome!
I love your videos, I have learned a lot about the details behind production and other stuff, you are the best Kristian!
As always another great video. Like your approach to use room mics.
I totally appreciate the way you go about making your videos from perspective that I can understand. I do a lot of home production and information and learning is the way to remove Ignorance and boy do we need a lot less ignorance in the world. Great job.
Really informative and great comparison! Thank you for this!
Awesome video Kohle! Great sounding entry level drum mics, would really love to try them. Cheers from Portugal!!
As usual, another great and helpful video. Thanks dude!!
I love your no bs video! My favorite thing is that you give your opinion without making seem like the only option and your open minded to trying things without bias. Great work keep up the videos! Loved Your Guitar tone course!
Thanks man!
I know that there are lots of people out there who create killer sounds using very different equipment than me!
So my taste and opinion can’t be absolute
Very exciting video, thanks! It would be nice hearing the differences of the mics in a full mix, too.
You’re videos have been making me happy. Just picked up a pair of sE VR1’s and love them!
I’ve been wanting a pair of those X1R for ages so as I’ve been wanting to mix for my own IRs I totally vouch for SE electronics I’ve got the Se2000 and love it to bits. Love your videos Kohle!
Great shout out for the Se Electronics mics! Been looking into them for drums recording and this video really helps to win me over! And winning those X1 ribbons would be a very nice start.
Love the sound of these mics. They sound great! Thanks for the info Kristian.
Great video, thank you, Kristian. The drum sound is so good. Great example that one doesn't have to spend a fortune to cut good sounding tracks.
Amazing shootout. ive used SE drum mics in a studio before and loved them.
You ended up confirming what I expected from the v7x. Glad to know they're that good, I intend getting one of them in the near future.
Great content! I’m trying to get into drum recording myself - very useful video!
Great video - good insights into nice-sounding, affordable gear for those of us slowly building up our ‘stuff’!
Every video you put out is fantastic!! Just friggin killin it!
I apply something from everyone of your videos and it make huge improvements to my recordings. Keep up the great work.
Can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciate these videos. I’ve made so many god damn mistakes as a producer over the last 10 years. I’ve started mixing so much better after watching some of your breakdowns. Legit 🤙🏼
You’ll be the perfect “victim” for my upcoming academy! ❤️🤪
Thank you for this informative and funny vid. SE mics aren't on my screen until now..Worth a try.
Your videos are always a service for the audio community :) It's also interesting to hear your perspective on overhead mics. I still prefer small condenser mics, but one time I used the X1Rs as room mics and they sound great! So (dear reader) try this out when you get the chance ;)
Brilliant video. Very useful and interesting information, especially for people starting out and on a budget 💯
This is a great video!!! Very excited to try the X 1R. Great sound for the price.
Thank you for this wonderful opportunity! Really liked the overhead mic comparison.
Great sound Ribbon! I need more room mics! Def going to take a look on X1R! Thanks
I like seeing all of these budget friendly options for drum mics, will definitely need to check out SE electronics!
Thank you, for the informative video. This really helps me, because I'm just getting started in recording live drums.
Thank you Kristian for th review. It help me to find good affordable mics! 🎙️🎤🎤🎤🥁
Excellent! Best vid on this subject yet. And you changed my mind. I now like the ribbon better for overheads.
Super helpful video thank you. We are recording our debut album ourselves and this had definitely helped me decide on a mic. Thanks 😊
Always happy to help!
This is perfect! I've been researching drum mics the last few days. I've just use a lot of SM57s and cheaper Shures. I just upgrade my mic pre's so now I can record 16 channels now. Definitely getting some SE electronics mics now. I need a bottom snare, hi hat and room mic.
Well done, kohle! Really enjoyed watching!! Perfect theme, nice approach, great!
Great video. Love the mic comparisons
Absolutely love your channel, man. Been so informative and helpful, thanks! :)
So cool you make this comparative vidéo about cheap mics, especially on ribbon's one !!! You give us magical Keys to get professionnal tracks to work with !!! Thanks a lot !!! 🍻👍
Very interesting results for a very in demand topic! Well done!
This video is to cool. Really liked the overhead shoot out! Very interesting.
In perfect timing your video my friend Christian. It's time to buy some microphones for my under construction studio and the times are difficult for expensive ones! Thank you for your great video!
Thanks Kristian for this vidéo. I just discovered SE electronics mics, amazing!
Love the drum content as usual! Thanks 🙏
Nice comparation. Good to know more about sE electronics mics. Impressed with this quality ❤️❤️
Thanks Kristian ! Dope honest content as always
Enjoyed your review and the SE mics sound great!
Love these kinds of videos sir. It might be time to invest in some sE mics.
Its always a great joy for me to watch your videos :)
Thank you for being such a big inspiration!
Grüße aus Franken
Thanks again for this video. As I am a home studio producer, I'm always looking for versatile mics that can be placed everywhere. As my drumroom sucks because of the low height I was trying out different methods. But since years I am interested in the X1R as room mics or overheads as well as guitar mics. So I even prefered the X1Rs in the video as room mics. This is a good chance to get some, thanks for your work Kohle!
Very interesting video! I learn a lot by watching your videos. Please do more drum stuff!
Great video as always! I have recorded drums for a while, but have not yet invested in next level mics. I am quite happy with the SM57 on the snare and the Beta 91 on the kick, but the overheads really needs an upgrade. It was helpfull seing the pros and cons from bright and dark mics. Over all i preferred the darker sounding pair as well
Stumbled on your channel today and had to subscribe! Those SE8's sound great, I'm currently using the Rode M5 ($199-pair) for drum overheads and I love them- very honest sound. I think they're worth checking out for anyone on a budget. They're great on acoustic guitar and I even like using a single M5 as a vocal mic. Keep the awesome videos coming man. Cheers from NC-USA.
Welcome!
Haven’t checked that mic, but Rode make great mics for sure!
Ah man! This is a great AB comparison!! Love from New Zealand!!
Awesome video, great info for us aspiring home producers on a budget!
