    Tom, you are my new favorite person! I've been Type 2 for at least 10 years. I took Ozempic for 1.5 years and had to give it up due to extreme side effects. Too bad because that was doing wonders for my A1-c. I have always struggled with my blood sugar numbers. Hard to make sensible food choices, not drinking enough water and a sedentary lifestyle. This week, I am doing a trial of the Libre 2 Freestyle and have been watching your helpful videos. The accuracy is more than 15% off and last night was 50 points difference. I remember you briefly explaining this in another video, but this video is VERY helpful at understanding the process. Thank you so much for helping people like me! I'm going to be looking up all your videos. Bless you! (I live in North Carolina, USA)

I find myself using my finger sticks to compare which kind of defeats the purpose of trying to rely on the cgm while im out. I can deal with it being off, just need it to be more consistent. Hi Tom. Thanks for another informative video. I am in the USA and I have been using the Libre for about 2 years now. I personally think the #1 tip should be to stay well hydrated. I’ve found incredible inconsistencies in comparisons when I am not well hydrated. Let’s face it. Sometimes we just don’t want to drink even though we know we need to. Putting that aside, I have dealt with some far off comparisons and Abbott has replaced every sensor. Every time you have to go through the same text book cookie cutter questions, but in the end they get the information they need, and if needed they request the sensors back for evaluation. I am currently using the regular Libre, but i do have the Libre2 sensors and reader as well. I am just waiting for the app to come out so I don’t have to carry 2 devices, but I am getting antsy and want to see how they compare.

    My own favourite top tips are to apply sensor the day before activation and to stay hydrated. I agree with accuracy: try doing a finger prick test on your left and then right hand immediately- you’ll probably get a slightly different result (I just tried it and found a 0.3mmol/L variation) 😀

      Main value of sensor is the continuous reading, from which one can learn over time what effects are produced by what actions. Users should be advised of this before starting to use one. The delay between venous and capillary levels and tissue fluid readings can be 20 minutes so differences will often be present. Look at the sensor frequently and use it to learn the effects of the various things that you do. Type 1 diabetics will always have some unpredictable changes in levels when affected by a viral or bacterial illness

      Just put it on the outside of your arm if it doesn't work under your arm. Also watch a video on exactly how to calibrate it correctly. Ive had 3 sensors be faulty because i would put it on then be doing work. For the first hour you LITERALLY need to sit down keep your arm motionless and wait for an hour, make sure your not taking a shower or going swimming for 24 hours. So take a shower before applying it. I had to learn by asking a pharmacist how to apply it correctly because one wrong move and your sensor could screw up during application and calibration hours.

    Ditto to everyone about the accuracy problem. My Freestyle Libre has told me that i'm having low blood sugar when my finger stick meter tells me my blood sugar is normal & in range. I'm not quite sure if the poeple who developed it are diabetic's. We live it & the poeple who doll out the medical advice on diabetes aren't. The stress of living with this disease is incalculable. Is this thing a cash grab or is this mean't to improve the lives of poeple suffering from diabetes ? Guessing what poeple's blood sugar is , is not an improvement in my opinion . Accuracy the the key to better health. Anyone can guess, this system needs a big improvement.

    • @Megafoot2164
      @Megafoot2164 Před měsícem

      What i have found through experience is , when you start using a new sensor, try to have your blood sugar reading as close to normal as possible. Not too high or too low.
      Finger prick blood reading’s give you the true reading. Monitor what both tell you, until you are comfortable with what Freestyle is telling you.
      It’s like converting French into English. Also, the last few days of a Frestyle Libres life, you really need to monitor what it’s telling you. Battery life is an issue. Like i said previously, finger prick readings can always be relied on to tell the truth. Use the one you know works to monitor thee other.
      That way you don’t get too high or low, and can see which way your sugars are heading.
      I hope that helps .

      Is a 10 to 20 mg difference ok? This is my first Libre and it's a 2- It seemed to be accurate in the beginning - I still have 7 days left on the 1st sensor. The sensor said I was 68 so I did a glucose finger stick and it was 90- BTW, I am in the US. Can anyone tell me if this is ok? Or should I ask for a new reader? Thanks in advance.

    Hello from the UK with an FSL 1.
    One more thing that helps me is to apply my sensor at least 24h before the one I am ues runs out. My diabetic nursebtold me that in the first 24h your body doesn't like the FSL being in your body and this gives you inconsistent readings. Have checked this and find it to be true. So 24 or 36 hours before the current sensor runs out I attached the new sensor but will not start it reading. Hope that makes sense?

      You are most welcome. Yes this bleedings happen from time to time but in my opinion the reason is not too much force during the application but rather hitting a "wrong spot" too close to a vein. It's not a big deal and most of the time people are still able to use the sensor when this happens and the bleedings stops. Hope this helps.

    • @terencehawkes3933
      @terencehawkes3933 Před 2 lety

      Hi, I have just acquired an FL2. No, the FL2 does not calibrate to a blood glucose test strip inserted into it. You'd think it would, and should but it doesn't. I am currently having trouble because my FL2 readings are a whopping 2 mmol/l below what my blood glucose meter is showing. This is really annoying because my FL2 low glucose alarm keeps going off in the middle of the night thinking that my blood sugar is below 3.9 when in fact, it is actually 5.9. I have requested a replacement sensor from Abbott and am hoping for an improvement. If it does not, I will chuck the FL2 and go back to pricking my finger. So far I am having a bad experience with the FL2.

The only upgrade in the U.S. that I was aware of was the upgrade from 10-day to 14-day battery life and that is what I have been using for three years. The sensors perform within the ranges published by Abbot, but those ranges for my sensors was much more than what Tom said in this video. The range that I read is plus-or-minus 40 ! ! ! ! those are really lousy limits. My experience is that the readings over three years is they average about 27 points lower than a fingerstick value with contour next test strip. I can't wait to try something else.

      I just received my Freestyle Libre 2. I was so excited because now I can check my blood sugar as often as I want. I inserted the sensor at 8 pm last night. The readings were looking reasonable until after midnight when the numbers went higher than I had ever seen, on average of 20 points higher than my Accu-check Guide glucose meter. The situation stayed the same into the next day. I was so puzzled. I called Abbott support and the company rep told me that I was testing in the wrong order. I should test with the blood glucose meter first, wait 5-7 minutes and then scan the Libre 2 reader, so I have started to do that. Just did the first comparison. The Libre 2 is still 25 points higher that the Accu-check Guide. 🤔 I will complete another 12 hour round of testing and call Abbott again with the numbers. I hope it is just a faulty sensor because I really like the convenience of no prick testing.

    Have you started bleeding after attaching the libre? My readings are off by about 6 points since this happened tonight and wondering if I should just put a new one on 😶

    the sensors are most likely batch tested for quality control at the factory. they are not individually tested. so what happens to those batches that fail QC? are they shipped to countries with weak consumer rights? i am having up to 50% error when i check with finger stick. and i have to check a disclaimer box when i buy on-line. they are expensive and not covered by any insurance or government scheme.

    I had a sensor replaced last week, when I called to talk to Abbot I was told they allow a 20% difference between glucometer and sensor.I had a 23% difference so it was replaced no problem, this is in Canada
