This is the second full year for my peonies. I staked them with bamboo stakes and garden twine last year but as I speak, I'm charging the drill up a bit and will run the twine through the holes as you instructed. Great idea! I don't mind the few extra steps:) This year being it's their second spring/summer they are very healthy and full. I probably should have staked them a earlier this month:) Thank you for the time taken producing this informative vid:)
After looking around the house, I decided a bread tie should work fine to thread the twine:)

That’s wonderful! Glad the staking idea is helping out your peonies this year! The DIY somehow feels therapeutic after a stressful day! 🙋🏻‍♂️

Staking really not necessary for intersectional or Itoh peonies. There are also many varieties of herbaceous peonies that do not need staking. See the American Peony Society’s recommendations for Landscape peonies.

I thought Peonies love the cold. They would have been fine w/o being covered. I'm in WI and never cover them even our temp dropped into low 20s

We learn something new every day about plants don’t we? I’ve been fortunate that the peonies in NC do grow. It would’ve been a shame if they didn’t survive the heat here. What sort of peonies do you have in WI? I bet they’re phenomenal!

Well draining rich soil. Planted in full sun. Rhizomes should be between 1-2 inches below soil level.
