    Can't hate on it. Won't hate in it. You've inspired with ideas for what I could do. It's initially the first hole that hurts the most, but measure twice and drill once. Double check for leaks and you're all set. Thank you

    People who are afraid to drill a $400 case clearly haven’t drilled through their hardtop for a front runner rack. Great video as always Asia

    I've thought about this with my own case since I added my RTT and have less space for a box and my recovery boards. Nice build! Also, I actually use the Master Lock 20mm Padlocks and they fit just fine (I have a 83L ROAM box though), got them in a 4 pack at Target. Like we all know, if someone wants it enough they will filnd a way to steal but it has always kept my setup safe from oppurtunists.

    A suggestion: you can put a spacer between the bracket and the box to cover the pin nuts. Although it’s not easy to remove the nuts the space will make it impossible and also look much more clean.

    Mounting things to the top of your cargo cases is ~IMO~ a must do if you have them mounted on your roof

    • @BaptismOverland
      @BaptismOverland  Před rokem +1

      Nice! I ALMOST did that but figured since the cargo box is recovery gear and I might need solar when I don't need recovery (ie camping and not trailing) I did it this way and mounted the solar separately

  • @InGratitudeIam
    @InGratitudeIam Před rokem

    That's a great way to transport everything. There's a sealant used for RVs that remains flexible and will maintain a water-tight seal over time. It's similar to what plumbers use for drains. Silicone will eventually separate and allow for water intrusion. Neoprene washers might be a good alternative. What was preventing you from placing a full-sized axe in the main compartment? Was some gear preventing that? Happy trails!

    Easy solution to the problem with the molle spacers.... lay the panel face down on a table with the screws in it (threads sticking up). Slip the spacers on and secure them in place to the back of the panel with a dab of CA glue. Then you can just hold the panel up and screw it in place. Boom, done.

    I live in my SUV, so yes, I need it on my roof. I have two of those 95L Roam Cases.
    I really like the case as im able to mount it to my roof rack without drilling holes into it - but as you said, I don't like the locking situation. I have to use a very small lock on it... I also don't like how the inside is so small. There's a lot of extra plastic inside that makes it smaller. I want to cut it out to fit my gear better... I thought about the lid organizer, but as mentioned, after filing the case, there's no room for a lid organizer, so I'm glad I didn't get one

    A little late to the party but I have a suggestion. Instead of gooping silicone on the flat washers, try bolts from the plumbing department, they are “tank to bowl bolts”. They have a large flat rubber washer that compresses and makes a watertight seal.

    • @BaptismOverland
      @BaptismOverland  Před rokem +2

      Oh man, THAT is one of the best advice I've heard yet. I didn't even know such a thing existed. When I do a version 2 I'm def doing this. Thank you!!

    • @unclemeat7310
      @unclemeat7310 Před rokem

      @@BaptismOverland yes, if you google how the tank and bowl connect you will see that rubber washer keeps a couple gallons of water in the tank. You just need to BE ABSOLUTELY SURE the bolt size is the same. The washer has to be very snug on the bolt and you don’t overtighten the nut, otherwise you will over-compress the washer and deform it, causing a leak.
      Great work otherwise! I came here because I just bought a Subaru forester and was looking for ideas.

      @@ToastedFox facts. But also, putting an RTT on and taking it off is a PAIN unless you have a hoist or even have the room to store it. If I had to keep taking it on and off every trip I would never use it

    I think ya did good but you may want to weatherproof the holes, if you haven't done so already.

      I agree!! It's called the "overland tax" 😂 But I got this roam box a looong time ago and, well, since I alrdy had it, might as well use it right?

    How are you mounting the box to your rack?

    • @BaptismOverland
      @BaptismOverland  Před 2 lety

      You can get rails for the FSR roof top tent so I just strap the box to it. When I had the old roof rack with no tent yet, I was able to DIY a way to bolt it to the rack. But now, obviously, I won't be bolting it down to the RTT

    Nice job, but those cases are way to expensive for what they are, also the price they want for a plastic molle panel is crazy.
