Classic Croce!! So damned much music lost when he died! His storytelling songs were on par with Harry Chapin-God love you both!! Can’t wait to hear you sing in heaven.

I was ten years old when Jim Croce died. I will never forget that day as long as i live. The pilot who flew the plane Jim Croce was in had a heart condition and they believed he had a heart attack and crashed into the tree.
Why was the guy flying a plane if he had a heart condition? I am still trying to figure that one out. He is buried in Philadelphia, Pa right off the turnpike.

I'm not really into acoustic folk type music, but Jim was amazing and I loved his work. He trancended categories and had a universal appeal. If you go to the sugarmegs site you can hear his last concert. You can also hear about a zillion other shows by just about any artist you can think of. Shows arte listed under the performers first name, so Jim Croce's shows are under "J". Enjoy and God bless Jim Croce.

I did this song last night at about the same tempo as they did in front of a room of about 80 people at a local art Gallery that has an "Acoustic night"...so I was on the acoustic piano with help from my friend Maureen doing the harmony vocal on the chorus...I think people were a bit shocked at the brisk tempo, but man was it fun that way!

I also read that the pilot was partying the night before and with his heart condition he ran to the airport and was out of breath when he got behind the controls. Air crashes are usually pilot error. I remember I was driving from NY to Ohio to start college there when I heard the news on the radio. The night before CBS aired 'Bonnie & Clyde" for the first time on TV and Billie Jean King beat the hell out of Bobby Riggs. Doesn't seem like 35 years ago.

Jim Croce died unnecessarily on September 20th, 1973. Unnecessarily because the pilot who flew the single-engine plane had a heart attack upon takeoff, which caused the plane to crash into an impending tree @ the foot of the runway ramp. If the pilot did indeed have a serious heart condition, he had no business in operating any type of aircraft. Had the plane been flown by a healthier pilot, we'd still have Jim today (he'd be 73 years old now).
    R.I.P., Jim Croce...January 10, 1943 - September 20, 1973. :'(

Actually, the local police emptied the planes fuel so Jim couldn't leave due to a earlier drug bust. Jim, the pilot and everyone else were not aware of this. Right after the show they tried to get the hell out of there not realizing there was very little fuel in the plane. They had enough for take off but that was it! True story.
