I feel especially sorry for Beth England who spoke so eloquently here because she was never really given the minutes in any of the games to prove herself and being one of the successful penalty takers in the shootout victory over Nigeria was really her one and only opportunity to shine.
To be fair the best team won, the Spanish passing was just too quick and direct for the England players, proud of them making the final but it was just a bridge too far for them!
Spain were not really much better, they played a different style, 1-0 is not proof of being much better and England had their chances too, an equalizer could have come anytime.
They did England proud, but congrats to Spain, a deserved winner!
Honestly that goal England conceded would've been avoided, Russo realized quite late to make the wide player.
Japan plays the precision passing and pressure game much better than Spain, having beaten Spain soundly. England got lucky to have beaten a Japan team that inexplicably decided to turtle for 3/4 of the match until it was too late. The win against Japan did not prepare England for even a lesser version of speed & precision as represented by Spain.
@@kofimartinnah they were much better. The only reason it’s 1-0 is thanks to Englands amazing keeper because if it wasn’t for her it would be 3-0 as there were so many attempts from the Spanish.
Yeah, that expected goal stat has to be at least in the high 2’s for Spain.
Spain dominated this game. I don't think it was even close. Spain's players were better skilled by a large margin. Congrats to Spain they deserved the win.

I do not think Sarina will come to the US . She has unfinished business in England and she can very well finish it up with the English team in 2027. The US will come back from this debacle stronger and better.
I feel sad that they think they have let anyone down and that they think they failed. What they have achieved is amazing and the whole country is proud of them.

Spanish leaving in the UK for many years. Although I supported my national team and i think they were the better team I have to say that England played great football and it was a really tough opponent so definitely they should feel extremely proud for all they achieved. They are incredible footballers but even better human beings. Conduct themselves with absolute class. Been watching women's football for 20 odd years and so excited about the progress I've witnessed. This core group won the European Championship and got to a World Cup final. I know the loss will feel really disappointing for some time, but these back-to-back tournaments are something England should be massively proud of.

England played well, but Spain was better on the pitch in that game. They put on a clinic, and they weren't going to lose.
You have absolutely nothing to apologise for. I am an 81 year old man who has never really been interested in football. This is probably because I was useless at it as a kid. On the other hand I did come to represent the RAF and once even England at Modern Pentathlon. You wonderful Lionesses completely changed my disinterest in football because I have so admired both your outstanding ball skills and your steely determination. I know I'm one of many who have thoroughly enjoyed your World Cup campaign and who will proudly follow your fortunes in the future.

Congrats to Spain but as an Englishmans, I have to say the Spanish were much better and deserved the win. To be fair, England just didnt play particularly well on the day but absolutely loved Earps` reaction to saving the penalty!
Honestly, this is one of the games where its more about who the overall better team was. I wouldn't really say just "on the day" because I do think England played well. They created a couple excellent chances and came really close to scoring. Spain was just a cut above their level in every department and did enough to win. I predicted a 2-1 victory for Spain from even before since I knew it would be close. Got the margin right but the score wrong. Anyway if they play again tomorrow with the same squad, the same team would win again. That simple.
The penalty should have been repeated, which is why the goalkeeper's gesture was even uglier, she knows that her save was not legal.
Gutted and Massive are the most often used english words. Much respect to Mary Earps though.

We didn't turn up in the first half today. I think we were a bit leggy from the Aussie game. We were weak in the tackle, gave the ball away sloppily and were bereft of ideas. The 2nd half was better and I thought we were getting on top until that Spanish penalty, which slowed our momentum down. However, we didn't do enough today. Congrats Spain.

The penalty to begin with was a nothing burger and shouldn't have been given. The ref should not only consider the offence but also the impact on a game like this. As a ref you should do anything you can to not impact the direction of a game like a world cup final.

What the players must always understand is they were not the only team to lose in the World Cup, which was a win draw or lose tournament. Spain mind you with an Experienced Coach who had half a team I feel. Was not Lionesses best form, but Credit to Keeper class saves. Enjoy Party Party Party👏

Fair play to the England women football team, but Spain were deserving winner,s on the day. Spain outplayed them.
Congratulations to both the winning team and runner up team. I expected a final score of 2 - 0 in favor of England. Spain had dropped their key primary 12 players in retaliation for participating in a strike against the national coach, accusing him of harassment, and this is the back up Spanish team. The Spanish team wanted a new coach. Instead they got the World Cup Football (soccer in the US) for Spain.
The next step is to have the courage to play more football and not concede possession to teams like Spain. Spain had real courage and tried to play football the way it should be played. England need to be more tactically aware. Lucy Bronze just ran into trouble in midfield for the goal , you just can’t do that , you need to pass the ball around and have options.
2023 womens world cup had the best goal saves I have seen throughout the tournament .
That is what I will remember.

If any of the lionesses are reading this I have just stolen my dads phone and just so all of you know I am a HUGE lionesses and football fan I would love. To play in a word cup and just to get to the final is such a big achievement I hope all of you feel proud but so gutting for all of you!
Talent is there but just need to make some tweaks and browse the talent pool for a couple of fast pace quick touch players. Aka just steal a couple of Spain/England dual nationals.
England had a great tournament. Loved watching. The final was lost in the first half. Spain kept their run of possession games going with better passing and tight defense. Their reaction to bad passing told. The tale. Ms Earps was a high point for England.

A first half tactical error surely? 3-5-2 formation worked vs Australia but midfield swamped in first half with acres of space out wide. Two up front had too much to do. Bronze's effort to beat half the Spanish team led to their goal. She loses the ball on the halfway line and just stands there. Hemp ran her socks off.
England supposed to be kick out the tournament by Nigeria,far better team,lucky to be in the final.

Attitude? England's attitude throughout the whole tournament has been exemplary, they've given 110% every game, and especially when it comes to empathy and respect to the opposing team, unlike some teams. Spain for example. No one can question the England players attitude.
