      let's make amazon in a physical store
      I explain:
      every store in the world is 1.0
      in this store, products almost never change
      and the owner chose the products
      it is boring
      now, there must be a new store 2.0
      in this store, products always change
      and people choose the products there will be via an app
      on the app, there is a huge catalog, people choose the products that will show up in the store
      the store is constantly being supplied with the products people choose

      If you could, you'd complain at least 5 times why your order stopped moving in section 5G.
      Besides, I think most of the time it takes to ship your order, it isn't being handled yet because of too high workload.
      I think it takes just 40-60 minutes from start to finish to actually send your order to the carrier's pick-up zone.

    Amazing how this video gives the majority of focus to the thousands of robots working in these massive fulfillment centers and hardly a parting view of the human element. I've worked in one of these fulfillment centers a couple years back when our ranks swelled to 6,000 workers during Peak season. It's maddening and unrealistic the pressure they put on all of us in terms of performance and dedication. Then it's equally disheartening to be layed off soon after when the holiday season ends.

UPS dumps my stuff at the nearest USPO, (12 miles away), and says, "Go and get it." Amazon owes me some money back for their half-assed shipping. Paid full price shipping-I am owed full service shipping! Beware of on-line retailers who use UPS, like Amazon.

    Amazon has patented a product that basically would fit onto the wrists of employees to "make sure that they are moving their hands enough" to stay productive. Can't wait until that comes out and half of their work force walks away.

    • @jaysheriffe6292
      @jaysheriffe6292 Před 5 lety

      really?! wheres mine!? none of us in Manchester have that.
      we have a computer that calculates our productivity %...and if we are performing really badly like 20 % for example they walk us into a room give us a drink and have a casual chat where they take our feedback and give us tips on how to improve.

    • @jaysheriffe6292
      @jaysheriffe6292 Před 5 lety

      lol you are being quite over dramatic here bud. ("Can't wait until that comes out and half of their work force walks away.")
      "unclear if Amazon planned to actually manufacture the tracking device and have employees wear it." It just part of amazons routine R&D there is literally a story similar to this like every other year and most of the time they sell on the technology anyway.
      the patent is just to cover themselves really...it doesn't mean it becomes 100% mandatory across all warehouses. The only way that happens is if the technology ends up being a big deal and greatly increases efficiency. (like the robots did)

    • @jesser5127
      @jesser5127 Před 5 lety

      @@jaysheriffe6292 Perhaps you'll find out one day when they fire you for being unproductive? Happens every day. Just because you work there doesn't mean that you know everything that is going on or are valued in the eyes of corporate more than any new person that they could replace you with who would do the job for less.

    • @jaysheriffe6292
      @jaysheriffe6292 Před 5 lety

      nah i'll probably just walk away with the rest of the people before hand lol.
      But anyway my job security wasn't the point here, i know i will probably get fired if my productivity drops too low that's besides the point.
      I'm just saying they already have systems to monitor productivity...like the scan to scan system and idle time monitor, which basically does the same thing as this wristband so unless this greatly increases productivity/ efficiency it'll probably just get scraped/sold like a lot of R&D prototypes do.
      Even if a piece of equipment like this does become mandatory you're still being overly dramatic about any repercussions.
      Also i didn't claim to know everything that goes on i simply quoted the source you sent me.

      Tommy W. if you haven't started yet, it's fine honestly there are so many horror stories about being mistreated and all that but it really is an easy job. Don't be surprised because it is a physically demanding job but after your first 2 weeks you will get used to it. Packing, picking, and stowing all have rate unless you are doing one of the few jobs like water spider or replenishing boxes. Ship doc is the only department that does not have rate but is the most physically demanding, there are also way more jobs in shipdoc that you can do, most people tend to like shipdoc more than any other department because it is less strict and you have more variety in jobs.

    • @AmpliFreQuency

      John Paul yeah that's where I am, I think. I'm a packer aka "outbound" where after every break I switch between packing boxes or running boxes through a machine that tapes them. First few days really work your legs but I've become a bit used to it now. We're now at having to ship 75,000 boxes, but I am sure they know that won't happen today since we only have 2 diverters pulling the taped and labeled boxes.

    • @schwenda3727
      @schwenda3727 Před 7 lety +1

      Tommy to ANYONE applying to Amazon THAT DOESN'T HAVE A FEAR OF HEIGHTS, I personally recommend you find a job there that involves using something called an "Order Picker" (some call it a Cherry Picker). It's still fairly physically demanding BUT there's MUCH less walking around and even bending your body too much, specifically your back (you can simply raise/lower the machine to a more appropriate height to pick/stow product with ease).
      Personally, I prefer the picking department, rather than the stow (specifically VNA stowing) because it's infinitely easier to make rate. VNA Stowing has higher demands AND you have to worry about quality (i.e. bin etiquette, overstuffing, blocking & overhang). As for the forklift/Reach Truck jobs... Not going to knock 'em til I try 'em!

    that robotic machines if not used could have give jobs to millions people around the world

    • @jaysheriffe6292
      @jaysheriffe6292 Před 5 lety

      if not used would also make all amazons prices probably quadruple in order to pay the wages of all those people needed to maintain the current level of efficiency that amazon has. The robots have made it so us pickers don't have to wander around a huge ware house with a heavy trolley for 10 hours ( instead of us going to the items the items come to us)...They haven't taken my job they have made my job easier and i love them for it.

    So you just casually don't show the typical work environment as has been reported by news agencies and verified by thier workers too, it lead to one its top level executive to resign as well because he couldn't bear what was happening in ground. Just sayin
