And the next challenge run is completed. This time we are going with another Solo character challenge as we try to beat Yakuza 7 also known as Yakuza: Like A Dragon (or Ryū ga Gotoku 7 in Japan) using only the protagonist Ichiban Kasuga! All other party members will be totally ignored as much as we can!
Again a very fun challenge run with quite a few ups and downs especially with late game bosses like Majima, Saejima and Kiryu. Also there is Tendo but I don't want to spoil anything, just watch and find out yourself :)
I hope you get to enjoy the run as much as I did!

I love the idea that ichiban doesn't want to use any of his friends powers or capabilities but phoning in legendary underground boxer Garry Buster Holmes is fine
He was in a real tight pickle but doesn't want to bother his friends.
@@DavidRamirez-se2yt this implies that Gary Buster Holmes isn't his friend, which makes me sad :(

Yakuza: Like a Dragon but Ichiban takes his meds
Can you beat it? Yes... if you use a crawfish, a cat, a big muscly man, man babies, kimchi, and literal lasers.
Damn to this old man with a waking cane is really kicking my ass, better break out the man babies and orbital lasers
@@theboneman5413 Especially orbital lasers
I just hate the fighting system in this game. Its lackluster compared to its other titles. This game just shits in its combat constantly and does nothing to improve it. They made this game a joke and hardly fun in terms of wanting to fight enemies. Characters feel like robots, rather than actual characters. Just saddens me that they couldn't learn from that.
Don't get me wrong, the story is great, but lacks in its only department that made the game good.
@@joelpashenee9774 🤓
@@joelpashenee9774 I enjoyed the boss fights and was excited for them, but I never went out of my way to battle thugs like I did in previous titles. I don't mind the turn based combat but they could definitely learn from other RPG's. They need to bring some Dragon Quest developers onto the team.
I know people like to think Ichi is weak, but even Mitsu says that Ichiban holds back by letting his opponents attack
But for real, personally, i think Ichi is on par with Daigo or slightly lower than Shinada
Basically, his power level is literally Y0 Nishiki
He can fight solo on his own in a beat em up with a crude and wonky moveset but he can definitely fight solo. The JRPG turn-based thing is clotting his feat and groove since other than Zhao and Joon, everyone else is basically slowing him down when it comes to fighting Yakuza with actual deadly weapons.
@@lycanbladefang4768 Plus he just got out from prison. So of course he is bit weaker. I mean there's reason why Majima Goro keep stalking Kiryu and screaming "KIRYU CHAN" when ambushing.
@@mrmonocle2749 Regiment or not, you want get buff? Start now and don't stop. That's it actually.
@@mrmonocle2749 I remember all prisons for long term had basic gym.
I mean, you kinda saw it in the prison.
People ganged up on him with weapons and after he decided to fight back he basically came out without further damage while those guys got got.
Can you complete the game with only Ichiban, a boxer, a crayfish, a tiger, and the full might of a mega corporation?

There is a 'no party' mod you can use for this, makes it easier to keep party members out of the fight. What makes a Ichiban only run hard is the fact for some unknown reason, his AGI and DEX do not factor into his turn speed... so he gets far less turns per fight than he should.
I like when something like this appears in my recommendations. Really good job mate!
great work bro
i cant keep a 'straight' face when he says "pound-mates"
I love the humor in the JRPG's 😂
Very nice, watched the whole video :D Some interesting strategies to carry over in to my own Legend difficulty playthrough in future too.
You might already know this, but if you're playing on PC, there is a mod that removes party members during battles. I feel that it could make the run a little different.
I did actually play around with that before starting the challenge, unfortunately it seems to be for steam only and I was using the Gamepass version so I had no other options unfortunately
There's also a mod in development which tries to return to the beat'em up combat, so that might be interesting as well.
@@kowalski4198 I prefer the turn based combat, and would love to see it modded into the other Yakuza games
@@RagnarAlvarrGaming Gamepass was updated to be modable now.
@@Mageh533 the exe file is still different, so mods need to be made specifically game pass compatible
Reading the comment section, and I'm surprised some people thought Ichi was actually weak? Before I got Han, Ichi was my main damage dealer, same with my friends who played the game. Turns out I was subconsciously building him, and only after I got Han and Zhao did I start building him as a Support DPS.
I think people are talking him being weak story wise. As in he is not a raid boss like Kiryu and Goro Majima in their game. Ichi needs his teammates to fight against other people in this game.
@@luqmanloki4803 Welp,as we saw Ichiban still can beat both of them on this own(mostly Majima , and Kiryu is just survival fight but still) so people been wrong XD
And with right setup he doesnt even need max level for it
My Ichiban got outclassed by Joon Gi Han, Zhao and even Nanba (earlier on). It wasn't until premium adventure where I unlocked the true power of Ichi with his fully upgraded Heroes Bat.
@@luqmanloki4803 mean what did you expect? ichiban was just a low level yakuza and he doesn’t have much martial arts experience
@@Hymn_ Yea which is exactly what I expected. He's not supposed to be a juggernaut like Kiryu at least. But he's still strong.
Great video!
The answer I find to a large majority of these videos is “yes. But why would you do this to yourself?”
Short answer: It's fun (most of the time).
Or as I state in my channel description: Hi, I am Ragnar and I like to play JRPGs with unneccessary stupid restrictions!
Great vid. U did perfect guard at 6:40
Good job!
your channel's great man x keep it up
I think you can use peerless resolve unless you didn't unlock it yet, either way. It's still a VERY good skill for Ichi only playthroughs
If you pay close attention to the battles you can see the Peerless Resolve icon on Ichi later on. Unfortunately that only is more like a safety anchor especially if bosses attack you 3-4x until your next turn :D
@@RagnarAlvarrGaming still. Very niiiice
So, I just recently decided to try out this game, and while I only managed to so far get a glimpse of the turn based combat, while also having pretty low framerate because I play on laptop, I still like it so far. Maybe I'm just so used to turn based RPGs that I kinda just immediately know what I'm doing, but I'm sure that even if I were new, I'd still like it. I don't really have much of a preference between turn-based and beat-em-up gameplay, really, I could swing either way.
After I finish the game, I'll probably play Y0
OMG OMG THANKYOU FOR LETTING ME KNOW ABOUT CURSE I CAN FINALLY FINISH YAKUZA 7
SAME MAN, TENDO IS A PAIN IN THE ASS
This was a really fun video. I wondered if it was possible to beat the game with Ichiban only using his Freelancer Job (the worst job in the game) but that doesn;t seem fun at all.
Fun fact, (spoiler for the penultimate boss if you're watching this before then)
Tendo isn't weak to just electricity, he's weak to specifically magic electricity, which is only on Enforcer and the Oribital Laser. Only two moves, both taking huge amounts of MP!
No fulminating forecast?
Fulminating Forecast also does it
The reason Tendo resisted Electric-infused Ultimate Stack Slap is because of Blunt resistance applying first
Amazing vid
beating the game at lv69 as well, what a champ.
Its rare to see such good videos are underrated
Gary Buster Holmes is the true hero in this story
alternate title : playing yakuza 7 but in the original yakuza style
Guess you dont remember y0 having trophies where you have to do heat actions with Oda and Tachibana. You know fighting with other characters
like a brawler:
i’m only watching this cause i’m never gonna play like a dragon
Great run! This is something so random, but looking back, does anyone else think that Ishioda looks like the lion boss in Beastars? 😂
I remember when i first fought gojo i thought it would be a cake walk and i was smashed over and over to the point i had to exploit the doplegangers to lower gojos health as much as possible till saejma joined and even when i got the winning strat i still went through helm
Oof I beat him on my second to third try because I know the fight was coming and I made a save sometime before going to the base
GOJO?!?
Nice video
You should try the EX hard mode
Tendo specifically is ONLY weak to electric magic damage. He resists every type of physical attack. I did a run that focused on using no elemental magic and thus tried equipping as many electric weapons as feasible. Didn't do as much although the electric weapons seemed to still work the best
Guessing before watching video, fuckin' Tendo is a pain, eh?
Wrong. In fact, Tendo is a joke
I watched this while programming, nice video
I was able to have ichi by himself once I got to the job select place
Can you beat the true final millennium tower using only Ichiban.
probably not
No.
There's a video on youtube where someone soloes the amon fight as Ichiban
Can you beat Yakuza Like a dragon with everyone's default jobs?
(Ichibans hero job does not count, once you can actually swap Jobs you must go back to his default job)
You might have a harder time when Nanba leaves the party (he'd be your main healer).
But I bet it can be done.
you should try to beat amon
I did mention in the end about trying post game content, but I haven't had time to give that a shot. Will do so in the future but its probably unlikely its gonna work :D
Seconding this idea, that amon fight has to be the most brutal challenge in the whole game, it would be great to see you try to tackle it.
Subbed lol
The short answer is no. Unless you're on PC using a trainer.
you need to play the judgment games
imagine if the Devs tested to see if this was possible themselves.

Curse Substitute also helps
27:30 that's not a crane lol
Now do this with only the Freelancer job.
It only really affects horde fights since you lack proper AoE options until Essence of Orbital Laser, but single target fights hardly change - you still mainly use Blunt damage, and your main skill will still be the Stack Slap line
@@kichiroumitsurugi4363 But the Freelancer gets to suplex people!
@@powerplay9422Either way, a solo Freelancer Only run doesn't change anything bar the already rather easy horde fights against something like Bleach Japan
Are you Russian? The accent seems to indicate that. Nice video btw, there’s not enough Yakuza content.
he said he is austrian with german as native language
Why even guard as the other party members?
Because without mods, they cannot be removed
I remember getting the kiryu fight and losing 10 times in a row before I realized he never once attacked either of my female party members, so I kept having ichiban block and made the girls do all the work, occasionally healing ichiban so he wouldnt make me reset the entire fight if he died.
"persona 5 CDs" one doesn't just simply resist *perrrrsona!*
The graphics look good ,storie too,but i dont like the figth turn, i miss the old beat em up (you againts the city gameplay)
How would this run change if you didn't use poundmates?
Early game would probably be quite a bit different since the AoE status ailments from Gary Holmes and Robson are incredibly useful. Later on it's not really that big of an issue anymore.
next up:
Can You Beat Yakuza: Like A Brawler Using Only Ichiban Kasuga? (Yakuza 7 mod)
...
wait
BIG QUESTION: how did you manage to complete the game without the party members using follow up attacks on downed enemies after normal attacks from Ichiban?
Follow up attacks weren't 100% avoidable in case party members weren't downed yet. Since they only stayed with their basic setup however those did practically no damage at all (we're talking single digit damage in later parts of the game) so it wasn't really an issue.
Would you have invalidated the run if an enemy made one of the part members drunk and they auto attacked?
I did let the occasional rage or drunk hit by party member slide by, since reseting every time that happens would just be way too annoying. I only gave them the starting weapon though so in the rare case they attacked they were only doing like 10 damage or so
@@RagnarAlvarrGaming yeah i figured cause that’s completely out of your control and would be annoying
You look like that one guy in that Facebook video
Everybody say they don't know how to play shogi and I got the shield for the enforcer class with the shogi points for fun lol
Yakuza LAD: schizophrenia-less%
the first fight against joon-gi-han is where i threw in the towel because i refuse to grind. i shamelessly cheated from that point onward to get through the story and i am not even ashamed to say it. wasnt even limiting myself to one character either, joon-gi-han would just reliably 1 shot every single party member, and often got 2 attacks in a row. brutal.
skill issue (you don't really have to grind any boss except majima, also f)
I had 0 problems with han. You must have been severely under leveled cause I beat him without grinding
Geez, how underleveled were you to where joon gi Jan was one shotting everyone? None of the bosses made me need to grind until Majima.
WAIT? right arm is high chance instakill?! I must've got lucky for the 3 of those.
It's not say jima💀
Itchy bun played to much Amogus
Can finish it easier as enforcer.
What about.... Yakuza but with Saeko only ? You start the challenge right when you get Saeko and the rules are :
Only Saeko can attack. Others party members have to parry.
Healing only for Saeko (and Ichi)
Saeko can't change jobs.
mmmmmmm I forgot there was an item that stops insta kill attacks. That would have been helpful to know.
There's also a skill for Ichiban's Hero job that does that, it's called Peerless Resolve
you can beat the game but not the true final milenium tower
52:09 Ishioda, not Sawashiro
I can't be the only one upset with the gameplay change. It just isn't as compelling as the real time combat of the other games. Hopefully they change it back for later games but considering some things said by rgg that's unlikely..
Main series going forward is turn based. They're making other games like the Judgement series and Ishiin if you still want brawler style.
@@prodbyANT I already knew that the new main games were gonna be turn based. And being able to play other games doesn't stop it from being disappointing
Just in case you make another challenge video on this game, Zheng is pronounced like Zong not Jang.

nou
he said he let hits like that + drunk and rage hits slide since theyre out of his control and would be annoying to reset for
Bruh that management mini game is bullshit
Not really, it's actually pretty easy
No I can't. I can't even beat it with the whole party. I would die for boredom. I really tried but after 8h I started to worry about my basic body functions already, like breathing. I mean even just skipping all the cutscenes would probably take 5 hours alone. I really tried even that finally to somehow get me through. It's impossible. They created an unbeatable pile of boring bs no matter how I put it. I'd rather being locked in a dark, empty room, naked, all alone for a week than "playing" this thing just for one more minute. That would be pure joy and thrilling entertainment in comparison. You people who seriously beat this game must have brains made of steel. I envy you for that, I guess.
Why would you skip the cutscenes? No wonder you don't like the game, you purposefully robbed yourself of some of the game's best moments. Also, the game has dozens of hours of side content. If you get bored of the turned based battling you can always go do something else like Dragon Kart or darts or Virtua Fighter. Sounds like you were wanting the game to be something it wasn't.
you skip cutscenes, your opinion is invalid
What I read is akin to someone calling a movie trash when all they did was pressing the "fast forward" button until the credits instead of actually watching the movie. You play a RPG without caring for the story what did you expect ?
You skip cutscenes of course you fucking hate it

I don't like turned based combat either but you don't have to play it bro. They just tried to make something new, yakuza has a million other beat em up installments, it doesn't hurt to have versatility
This games fighting system ticks .e off. Its NOTHING like the other titles, more or less a fucking joke when compared to games like Kiwami. The story is there, but the fighting is not there at all. I feel more like a robot than anything while playing this. You can control where your character moves, you can't do Jack shit. Why they made this game this way, I have no clue, but its truly upsetting.
Love the story, but when the co.bat isn't up to pay, it drags the game down a lot.
Admottedly, yeah, it feels wonky, though since this is the first time they experimented with it, I can understand it being a bit unpolished. Also, worry not, there is a mod lets you play the game the way you would be playing the other Yakuza games (not sure if it is finished or not)
