Joe Duplantier, the vocalist and lead guitar player for Gojira utilities a hybrid of rough vocals on top of signing in false chords to preserve his voice and produce that unique tone you were talking about. Gojira is so good at transitions man, their groove is on point always and their drummer is next level. You should've watched Clone (The Link Alive). They produce music videos but their live performances are so good I listen to several of them over the album versions. If you want to see what their drummer is capable of you have to see the video for Where Dragons Dwell - Live at Hellfest 2010

Gojira? Alright i’m subbed. There a washing list of songs to be recommended, but as you did this double, i HIGHLY recommend you to watch these 2 exact same tracks live. With their stage presence both are absolute nuts. Oroborus Live At Eurockeenes and Clone live at Garorock. If you could do these 2 again live, i’d love to see what you’d think of those. @@DaddyGoose_CB how i experienced it is that with Gojira, most of my favourite tracks are all played live at a particular show. For Gojira you really have to go live and get back to the tracks to appreciate them more and more. A lot of tracks take time to appreciate it to the fullest, but once you get it, you’ll like it for a longer period of time, which is totally my case.. and that’s where the live versions completely blew me away…pity you wont react to them as these ones is where Gojira sets themselves apart imo, trust me on that one. just a tip ;)

I recommend you seeing a video of them live, often their live performances are as powerful as the studio ones, the classic one to react to is The Gift of Guilt, but they have several other good live performances. I saw them live last year in Santiago, Chile, and I gotta admit, they are absolutely brutal and that concert was pure energy!

The switch-ups start to become part of the whole groove of the song the more you listen to it. They start to become addictive. The 3 songs you've heard are fairly representative of New-School Gojira (Stranded), Mid-School Gojira (Orabourus) and Old-School (Clone). Old school is where it's at imo \m/
You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT about this being a gateway drug to metal. That’s a great way to say it. And this is perfect music for vibing in the car. The slow vibe at the end goes into the next song and fits perfectly. Gojira albums are complete experiences. The lyrics are profound, so I need to disagree on that part. Check out their lyrics. It’s a huge reason why I love these guys.
They can do the absolute opposit of the compact twisting and turning song as 'Clone' is. Try 'Where Dragons Dwell' live, a long building up of repeating layers of sound and rhythms. This type of metal is at its best live. Gojira performances are filled with energie. On one thing you where dead right: it's an interesting band. Still some work to do: Opeth and Rammstein are waiting for you.
This is some older Gojira, great sings both, Clone might be topping, because of the heaviness in it, that just grab you.. i suggest to check this band out live to songs, ,the gift og guilt, Flying whales, the art of dying, Lénfant sauvage, The heaviest matter of the universe.... all masterpieces imo.. i cant remeber the best live versions on hand, just know i heard those songs live, and it was a mindblow..

So much to suggest. Backbone is probably both a band and fan favorite. Mario's best drum song imo. In the Wilderness is my favorite of theirs. For the one drummer I think is better than Mario try Meshuggah Clockworks: Thomas Haake drum playthrough

Some songs are really heavy and gross. And it can be hard to listen to some songs because they are very progressive. But they are very listenable for people trying to get into death metal. Also my fav band
You’re absolutely right about Joe’s voice. The only other vocalist I can think of that’s similar is Max Cavalera from back when he was in Sepultura, which Gojira took huge influence from. Listen to albums like Arise or Chaos AD and you’ll hear the influence, especially in the latter.

I think Gojira and Amon Amarth are potentially the two bands that lead more people getting into death metal than just about any other bands.
