you helped me with my decision. I bought 4 mono max for my durango. I saw your initial impression video, but couldn't find a follow up. but I did see in the comment responses that you still liked them as of a month or so ago. so........ I just installed mine. keep up the good work. I love that you are straight forward with your opinion and your background means your opinions carry weight.
Great review. I first used KYB gas adjust on a 1980 International Scout and thought they were great. I was trying to decide between Bilsteins and KYB for a van build and you were my decision maker. I love the price/performance ratio point on the KYB.
I have 2004 Tahoe Z71 with the original stock shocks , 220K miles. I do zero off road driving and i want the most comfortable street performance driving shocks that has no body roll or bouncy ride. Shocks of interest are Billstein 4600, KYB MonoMax, or Gas a Just. I don't t know the type shocks cop Tahoe's use but any suggestion would be appreciated. PS I had a 1996 Impala and loved that cop suspension setup.
i just put four mono max shocks on my 2019 F350 . 2-#427189-565121 mono max shock and 2-#473049-565124 mono max shock i also upgraded the stock steering stabilizer with a 264400-24-286558 bilstein HD stabilizer shock. and BBS dual steering stabilizer shocks. to eliminate the death wobble problems that the ford superduty's have. i have not encountered this death wobble and was not going to. that's why i had the work done to my 2019. i think its bullshit that ford dose not do this from the factory. I'm not an engineer. and who ever at ford thought this was a good idea isn't either. i will keep you posted on how long they last. i can tell you this the rancho 5000's are shit! i had them on my truck for 3 months and the truck drove poorly. i have only had the mono max on my truck for two weeks but the truck feels like a porsche .
Very good first impression video! I hope you post a follow up on those. I have a 06' montero and was planning to save to buy a full set of Bilsteins, but doing some research and having stock height, i think these will work great. Keep up the honest reviews, those are harder to come by. =)
julio chavez thanks for viewing and the input I’ve ran bilsteins for years on various projects and have liked them but the mono max I believe are better. We just did a 4000 mile trip with a lot of real hard offroad miles in Utah and Colorado and am dead set sold on them
I’ve run 5100’s now for almost 4 years on my Tacoma. The fronts have been leaking for a few months. I’m going with a kyb complete strut plus assembly. I can get the entire set up for less than just the 5100 itself. In my experience the bilsteins are overrated and overpriced for what you get
Do you still suggest "just a gas" shocks. I am lowering a 06 silverado with custom control arms, so I am looking for oem replacement shocks and coil springs. Dont want anything too expensive but want a slight upgrade. Thought monotube might do the trick.
@@ABONE1heard the same doing some research. But I got a homie who dropped an obs and runs the monomax but they for a 2500 said they give him the best ride
Thanks for sharing! I've got a long wheel base 4WD Hiace camper. Do you recommend the KYB gas-a-just or the monomax? The lady is worried about a bumpy ride on dirt roads.
Hi I have 97 Land Cruiser all stock running on 285/75/16 mostly on road and some off-road lorded with some camp gears what’s best shock to go with mono max or dobinson twin tube thanks you in advance! And what tire brand size tire would you recommend for 33 high
@@ozarkoverlandoutfitters9218 thanks you so much for reply…. So Dobinsons twin tube it is should go for the full stock kits or just the shocks, thinking about going with 255/85r16 or 235/85r16 after this didn’t know that they have this opp for 33 I love small tire truck us to run it on my old 83 Toyota truck never have any problem the 285/75r16 no power going uphills when I tow a small trailer
Andreas I would go monomax you will love them sorry for no follow up I always meant to but ended up going with a lift on my cruiser and went with dobinsons but would had went kyb if they would had offered the length I need. You won’t be disappointed for shure
At stock height there are a lot of choices my favorite is the Dobinsons twin tubes. They have proven to be a good long lasting shock that gives you a big upgrade in performance and have a nice ride
What are you running in the front struts, do Monday or gas adjust match strut to shock? Lol 😆 I liked your reaction to the washboard road looked like you wanted to say 👋 hell ya!!, but you kept it controlled lol. Gas adjust sounded awesome 👌 but you saying you liked monomax just makes me wanna choose monomax...I have 2009 hyundai santa fe, what would match in the front to complete your kyb set all around?....I like driving alone, but I often have people who want a lift, and I don't wanna compromise the handling...I want something all around the will handle whether I am loaded down with passengers or a packed ride loaded, just so that when I am alone it be even better...good 👍 vid liked it please get back to me. Cheers for now.
In an age where everyone follows the trends, nice to see an honest review of shocks that cost what they should...
I was In Between The Bilsteins and Monomax Just purchased the monomax for my 1st gen taco .apprecitate it man.
Did they increase vehicle height at all?
I just replace the rear shocks on my 2002 Chevy Astro and DAMM those KYB Monomax are putting in work they feel pretty good
My man knew the wolves would come if he left it as loving Japanese stuff only. Great video my man!!!
Japanese quality on everything is superior

I actually bought these shocks without looking at any videos and I put them on my truck and they felt pretty good
Thanks just had two put on the front of my 2002 suburban, feels real nice and solid, replaced the originals at 150K miles,
khoujams I’m still real happy with mine
They still holding up?
Take that as a no

Randy Lee monomax is a lot better shock for a heavy application like mine. My favorite shock I’ve ever had on my land cruiser

Mono max gives tons of control that is my choice
How stiff are they, I drive a ford lightning I really dont wanna pay 160 per struts from qa1 if these are stiff
Ricardo Garcia they ride great in a 7000 lbs land cruiser I have nothing else to compare to
How did they do ?
I have 1980 fj40. 2.5 lift. Do you know if KYB makes a Monomax for my rig
Not that I know of
Our Dobinsons big bore shock do great on a 80 or the new ims shocks from Dobinsons give me a call at the shop
