A similar thing happened to me with Chase. After 20 years, However. I brought up my old paperwork from when I originally opened the account for free nowhere does it state in there that they can change or upgrade you without your consent. You entered into a contract with your bank and decided on which kind of checking to have at that time, they had a higher one with service fees, but since I entered into a contract with Chase with no fees, they cannot do this. It is breach of contract. If you do not contest it, they will do it.

I was just at my bank and a man that did not have an account came in to cash a check. The teller said they had to charge him $10 to cash it. I remember doing this in the day and was never charged to cash a check at the signers bank.

The banks in my town won't cash a check at all unless either you or the person who issued it has an account there. If not, you have to go to Walmart.

Good alert here, will keep an eye out for this. 😑👌
I make all of my mortgage payments in-person at the bank, because it was taking them 3 weeks+ to process the payment when I paid it online. And I ended-up hit with late fees. And somehow, it was always late by just 1 day. 🤔 And it's the same bank, holding both my mortgage & checking! 😡
Also, opt out of bank & CrCd overdraft services. If you don't have the money to pay for something, at that moment - don't buy it.
(And if you don't have a head for math, to keep track of your account balances, sign-up for daily account balance email notifications. From both your bank & credit card companies. Very easy to do & very helpful.)

Close your account or they'll ruin your credit. They'll keep charging you $12/month and if you don't pay it, they'll report it to the credit bureau. They might even take you to court.

I'd close my bank account if they started charging me ridiculous fees just because I chose to leave a small balance in my account I usually pay my bills electronically and only leave enough money in my account to cover other person expenses. Its my account and my choice and not theirs. Thanks for the heads up Michelle. Going forward, I'll be more cognizant than I already am concerning my finances ❤

Oh my goodness, here in WV my household in January had to pay for 2 utility bills late because of USPS. Last month, I had to renew my driver's license and it was only good for 5 days, instead of the normal 5 years. I made a phone call to the DMV and was told that I would have to go back there to get it fixed. Everything in the US is wonky and the people are making me crazy. Thank you for this great information and allowing me to vent. You are amazing and I hope that you have a wonderful Easter with your family.
