  • Beautiful snowy mountains, a snowman murder, big deep mud pond and a lot of snow digging, will we make it out and reunite with our good friend waiting for us at the border with Argentina?
    Last week we made it into Chile and spent some time discovering the big cities of Santiago and Valparaiso. This week we head toward the mountains and go on to explore the snowy spring landscapes and the feet of volcan Sollipuli. Our objective is to follow snowy tracks all the way to the next border crossing where a good friend (some of you know him), waits for us. Unfortunately things did not quite go as planned… But that would not be a journey without unexpected adventures would it?
    Next week promises more amazing adventures in the lake district of Argentina so stay stuned as we travel with our Kiwi friend!

    Until next week, take care!

    Good work getting out of the snow!
    There is nothing worse than the combination of wet snow and soft mud for getting stuck.
    You guys did all the right things eg. staying calm, making use of the high lift jack, stones under the wheels, Maxtrax, etc. Too bad the winch decided not to work! Argh!
    Well done to get Albo out and undamaged.
    Nice to see Tom again and looking in fine fettle.
    RIP Sammy the Snowman!!! ☃

    Bit too adventurous, but that's also where the best adventures come from. As Jimny driver its great to see them off roading round the world, and glad you got a guide out.
    Winch wise, if not used they can have numerous issues, worth every month pulling it fully out, then drag the spare wheel back to the car, or winch the car to a tree - heat cycle through the winch keeps them dry and freed up. Lots of water crossings and freezing temps wont help a winch either, especially if there is any moisture build up inside.

    OMG...It's like watching a old Movie Serial where the hero is hanging by a branch off the side of the cliff, will they make it?? Will they have to abandon Albo?? Rescue services?? And with no gloves and tennis shoes??? What a couple of tough soles you two are..Well done and as hard as that was..It made a GREAT adventure video..on the edge of my seat the whole time...(At the end it would have been fun to say..." Nobody or nothing was harmed in the making of this video...") Well worth the couple of bucks to help fund your adventure on Patreon..Cost less than a couple of burgers at Macs..

    No doubt you are now receiving extraordinary quantities of self-recovery suggestions of widely varying quality! I’ll add my free advice, and, as the cliché goes, it’s worth its price.
    1) Your video proves, one again, that while traction boards aren’t utterly useless, they do come close.
    2) there’s an excellent Hi Lift attachment that grabs your wheel spokes - perfect in the situation you filmed. Hi Lift raises the tire directly, slip traction board beneath raised tire. I’ve had a LOT of success with that technique.
    I suppose it’s too obvious that we should periodically test our winches. But, honestly, I never remember to test mine!!!

    • @NextMeridianExpedition
      @NextMeridianExpedition  Před 8 měsíci +1

      thanks for the tips!!! we ll keep that in mind. on the winch testing we really felt let down because we actually use it fairly regularly to help others. and the one time we need it for us it does not work. but it s true it should always be tested. I guess because we drive everyday we not always know when we re going for hard tracks. but we will be more careful in the future.

  • @user-bl7ii2ug2l
    @user-bl7ii2ug2l Před 8 měsíci +1

    Sooo, you do have a handyman jack. All you need is the comealong hand winch.

  • @tukocan
    @tukocan Před 8 měsíci +1

    The Clicking sounds from the winch are most likely stuck brushes. From little use this usually occures with electric winches, I kknow this as it has happened to me. Remove the cables on the winch motor, then use I believe 6 or 7mm wrench to remove the 2 long screws holding the motor in place. Lightly tapping the motor you can remove it. Clean thoroughly the brushes and their holders, remove any residue on the copper winding especially where the brushes ride on the motor. Put it all back in reverse order paying attention the the brushes so that they properly sit where they should. Good Luck, I know you can do it Nick.

    Generally, in snow, you want to INCREASE the tire pressure in order to open up the treads. In fact, it is actually better to go for a narrower tire in snow so that the tire cuts through. A wide tire tends to hydroplane. In high latitudes, where it is very cold and dry, it is often best to go with a tire made from a soft rubber compound that will "stick" to ice. That is why you will often see people driving around Alaska, the Yukon and the NWT during the cold of winter, on soft high performance radial tires.

    Ugh. Snow sucks. You made the right choice by going the lowland route. Happy to see Tom again. Stay with him until the end. Maybe he can go to Antarctica with you. Beautiful mountains and clear skies. Love the drone shots. Albo is a tough machine. Yeah, get the winch fixed and maybe upgrade it to one which will equals the vehicle and contents. Also, can't have too much cable. You may even want to carry and extra. You put one between two trees on opposite sides of the road, then hook your vehicle cable to the middle that. (Like a T). Otherwise it may be too far for your vehicle cable to reach. Onward to more adventures.

    First of all great driving for someone who doesn't offroad that much! And good recovery work. If you're going into the snow again I'd highly recommend a set of v-bar tire chains - the big truck ones - there's nothing like them, it feels like you're driving a caterpillar. Salut Miss, à mon goût vous êtes descendu un peu tôt plein sud,
    pour jouir de meilleurs températures...après , vous avez probablement des impératifs!
    par avance je vous souhaite une belle croisière vers le pôle!!
    *croisière que je ne me suis pas encore payée ....j'attend d'être "vieux"...

      Ce coup ci on a decide de descendre au Sud au printemps pour éviter un peu le monde de l’été. On avait fait le même choix pour la Scandinavie et bien que la météo soit plus aléatoire (quoique l été n’est pas une garantie de beau temps dans ces région) on est content de profiter de la région avec un peu moins de visiteur.

    Ciao ragazzi vi seguo con molto interesse per tanti motivi tra questi, adoro la Land rover e colgo l'occasione, se mi permettete, di darvi un suggerimento, ho notato che non avete montato sulla traversa posteriore nessun gancio per soccorso...... è un grosso errore credetemi, ho notato in un video che vi hanno tirato fuori da una situazione difficile agganciando la fune all'occhiello di ricovero messo sotto nei longheroni......GRANDE ERRORE.., si rompe facilmente e può essere molto pericoloso....quindi al più presto montate un buon gancio da soccorso.....grazie di esistere ciaoooo💪🤙

    Je ne sais pas si vous avez lu Davaï Kamtchatka de Marc Mellet avant de partir mais ça me rappelle un peu le moment où ils sont coincés des jours entiers dans les montagnes Kirghizes à avancer mètre par mètre pour passer un col enneigé.
    C'est un peu l'histoire de ce qu'on peut accomplir avec beaucoup de détermination... ou alors de jusqu'où la folie peut nous emmener quand on n'est pas prêt à faire demi tour xD

    What's an adventure without killing Sammy the Snowman (poor sammy🥶), getting thoroughly stuck, getting out, and then running into those guys with their crazy ORV's. I am glad you ran into them...I kept telling you during your stuck moment...its time to turn around. Too deep, too muddy and I knew it was going to get worse...but honestly, i might have kept going too😂 I love a good adventure. ❤

  • @grahameroberts8109
    @grahameroberts8109 Před 8 měsíci +1

    Well you don’t need that 12v dust blower/vacuum cleaner in the snow, but three things would be useful. Firstly, a LONG HANDLED shovel; secondly, tell-tales on your max trax for when they get buried and you can’t find them and finally a service on your winch. You have taken Albo into its favourite areas on this trip. 👍🏻🙏🦘
