Pretty awesome car...looks like a cross between a GT40 and a Stingray. It's like something straight out of Speed Racer. An impressive machine for sure.

One of the best interviews I've seen on here. A lot of other interviews have that sales pitch tone to them. I love the way he answered the questions short and to the point. A man that doesn't have time to mess around.
Wow... Stevens designed that car in 1959? That's quite exquisite. Looks like something that would pass as a modern car today.
It's great to live in the city where it all started,but it's a shame the company no longer exists
The car in this video was made in 2006, If you looked at the sketches you could see it was no modern day look, Looked like something from Speed Racer.
In the description, it says it was designed in 1959.

Jay if you ever see this.. you need to do more sit down interviews with car legends like Bob Shaw. I really enjoyed the talking part. it was very intriguing to learn about what influenced Brook in terms of design, and what influenced Bob in terms of materials among other things. Great interview, and video as always!

I absolutely love Jay Leno's garage. My dad was a mechanic and if he were still alive he would appreciate it also. To see how you bring all those cars from our era back to life is wonderful. I know I'll never have the chance to afford a muscle car from my youth, as you and I Jay are around the same age, it's nice to see that someone like you can share the joy of the ride with us through your website. THE CAMERA WORK IS A MESS, THE INITIAL WALK AROUND HE KEPT JAY IN FRAME WHEN WE WANTED TO SEE THE CAR.
I wanted to see up in that area too.A glance shot sucked.There was allot of detail just on the exhaust tips.
I love when Jay brings in guys like this. I imagine this guy can go on and on with stories about cars hes owned, built, driven, and the interesting people hes met around the industry.

I was fortunate to have a Stevens family Pantera and classic Excaliber in my driveway back in the late 80's thanks to a mutual family friend, when I grew up in Milwaukee.
That is one fabulously beautiful car. My hat is off to you Bob.
Reminds me of a concept car from years ago called the 'Mako Shark".

This is a very special car. One thing it has roots to the Excalibur that was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. My home. Quality built by a old timer but still has a grip on the new. Love it. Thanks Jay.

It isn't to often we see Jay Leno turn back in to an interested 12 year old boy asking questions and being awe struck by who he is talking to and what he sees in front of him. This is one of those great few videos where Jay is able to show what really gets him going and what he enjoys while he is able to show his enthusiasm.
Thanks for showing this awesome vehicle and it's great designer-builder ! I hope that this car is around for a long time to honor him.

When I was young I used to view old people as useless, decrepit and pitiful. As if I would be young forever. Now at 62 years old I have a different view. Never thought I would live this long. Older people have wisdom and experience that transcends time. And when they pass away we lose a valuable resource. I was mistaken when younger. Very nice car. Thanks Jay.

this is such a nice car . looks simply beautiful . the only draw back would be it has a common engine . but even that it not that bad , it is a good reliable power plant . the rear tires and wheels are simply beautiful . the guy who designed this was a artist genius . he in effect designed the 63 corvette . Bob Shaw added to it details worthy of any design house . Thanks Jay for showing us one off cars like this . There is no way we all could see these in action
Usually homebuilt/one off cars don't do it for me, but this car is gorgeous. The right color combo and those wire wheels just make it pop.
My favorite thing about Jay's attitude towards cars. He keeps it simple, you know? He lets a car (even a super rare one) be a car. I love that.

Just Awesome, that you was able to interview this Great Man Bob Shaw and put his car into one of your Video's. Nice Job, Jay. One thing I noticed is the rear deck lid is bouncing as you was driving the car.
Jay - "What was the first car you built yourself?"
Bob - "It was a old Bugatti Type 38, i sawed the body in half & shortened it"
Jay - "oh really, the Bugatti club will come looking for you"
It's not hard to make a roadster look good but this goes so far beyond that. It is one of the best looking cars I have ever seen.

That car is a conglomeration of the best looking American cars ever built. But its so beautiful you'd never know it was built today but designed 50 years ago. Amazing car

Excalibur... As an 80s child, that brings back memories of US replicas of 1930's Mercedes SSK's and SS Tourers and Roadsters. Giant sculptures of cars for Hollywood parties and the like, with the running boards and the six giant chrome pipes coming out of the coffin bonnet. Is that the same Excalibur? Is that this old man?
Cool car, I know it must feel gratifying to build such a work of art and finally reveal it to the world.

I'm not totally sold on the design but the workmanship in this car is amazing and the interior is one of the best I've seen in a car like it.
this car is sweet. the side coloring reminds me of a c1 and the flares over the front wheels remind me of a c2
Yes I think it would be absolutely outstanding if Jay would get a team together and build his own 1-off car. He could do a fantastic video series taking us through the entire process from idea to finish, even designing his own engine. Not many people have the ways and means to take on such a project, it would be his perfect car.

Jay looks like a giant on a scooter in a lot of these vids involving smaller vehicles. The intro 'cruise in' of this vid made me snicker impudently.
Very cool. Very well done and nicely built. Looks and sounds great too! What a great legacy to leave behind. It's fantastic he got a boost in public awareness of these cars thanks to Jay. More people definitely needed to know about this and his other cars.

When i see this i wonder why there is so much bs on the internet between europeans and americans about who makes the most beautiful/best cars... As a european i can only say that i love this car and so many of the cars produced in America, both old and new. We have some stunning cars over here but tbh when it comes to these special cars, America is ahead of us by some distance! This is a masterpiece imo ;-). My deepest respects to Bob Shaw and Brooks Stevens for creating this automotive jewel.
Bart Vandenhaute A true car enthusiast admires cars from all over. The British have had some fantastic cars, the early XKE being among my favorites.
For me the AC Cobra, Ferrari 250GTO, Lambo Miura, Corvette stingray and Ford GT40 are the pinacle of automotive industry from the past, ofc amongst dozens of other epic cars, new or old (F40, 288GTO, McLaren F1, Pagani Zonda, Viper, Corvette, etc..). But you are right, thanks for the comment ;-).

Wonderful creation! I wish I had an imagination and resources to build something like that. So simple in a lot of ways and yet very sophisticated!
Kind of neat to see how the car would have originally looked as they were designing it back in the day. The end result turned out pretty cool. A shame Stevens didn't get a chance to see the finished car though. Just me, maybe could have gone with SS, for Shaw and Stevens. Kudos for showcasing the car!
Yes, Jay, indeed, as you say, right at the end of this episode, we do: "have to treasure these old guys" In his youth he must have cut a dashing figure. Clearly his racing contacts, depth of knowledge and experience have all combined to create this masterpiece. Perhaps your subscribers may be keen to see some shows on these people... before they leave us - I know I'd be very interested. Be great to get their back-stories.
Regarding the evolution of the Veyron-like exhaust, when he said: "... but that's another story" I thought - and I'm sure you've got a lot of those, and they'd be so interesting to listen to. Just a thought...
Jay, you have to add this one to the collection....and with such a rare and beautiful car, give Mr. Shaw a signed blank check because if you got to ask the price you can’t afford it! (And you can!). What a beautiful sports car! Talk about a smart investment, what’s that car going to be worth in 10 years?, 2x or 3x what you pay now? BUY IT!!!

Having pulled Excalibur RS from the stone that is our world. You should honor us all and Mass Produce it as Excalibur LM. (Leno Motors) Maybe even a steam version.
