Exactly plus this is the guy who wrote the intros to Weird Fishes and Let Down which are two of their best songs so anyone who unironically makes fun of Ed for being useless needs to eat shit.
Some people think the bass guitar is not that important but once they hear the song without it they start to realize what a huge difference it actually makes. I think the same goes for Ed
Even when Ed isn't actually playing an instrument, he does at least get to be eye candy for us viewers. He's definitely the easiest on the eyes of the lot, and he has a beautiful soul to back those looks up.
Template for the perfect band: 1. Great vocalist, songwriter, and lyricist, incredibly timid and has his own cute little ticks 2. Timid but incredibly helpful, creative, and innovative, with thousands of hidden talents only few people know about 3. EDit: I’m pretty sure you can recognize the roles in Radiohead ;)
Haha that was a good laugh but aw man a tough hit. Ed is very important to the band. He adds guitar layers to the music that build tension and complexity. The band wouldn't be good with 2 Johnny Greenwoods. It would be too much noise. You need someone like Ed who understands the importance of harmony and layers to turn something bleak into something beautiful and who can sacrifice guitar playing and take a back seat when need be. He also appears to be more relaxed and enjoys this role. He admits it in an interview that he's a more melodic player. The epidemic of a solid band member. I Wish he would be a solo project to see what he's capable of
Ed recently stated in an interview for BBC Radio 6 that he's putting out a solo album next year! Not sure if he'll be singing on it or just instrumental...
Ed is a legend for anyone who knows about sound and how Radiohead soundscapes are developed - he knows his place and knows when he needs not to play and bow out and let the song do what it needs to - that in itself is one of the most musical gifts and not many have it. And when he does play, boy, do you hear it - you just do - whether it be loud, quiet, soft, strong - unmistakably Ed and the world of music is so much better for him being in it.
He's talked about how the transition from OK Computer to Kid A made him reconsider his role in the band and what it meant to be in a *group*, and from then on he's basically been the spice that makes every other ingredient in the dish pop. Figuring out how to recreate the effects they do on synths and laptops live with his guitar and effects pedals is a huge part of why they're so amazing live, and his backing vocals are one of the single most transcendent elements of their entire sound
Ed actually has some insanely genius guitar parts, far beyond just creating ambience and, at times, beats/loops. Jonny gets so much praise, and I agree he's a mad scientist who kills it, but don't disregard Ed's role. He's a huge part of the sound and success of the band. I have an immense amount of respect and admiration for the entire band. A complete unit. Brothers.
Man, that solo album is gonna be #fire, if these killer guitar-hero moments are anything to go by....but if he sings on it.....who'll do the backing vocals?! "COLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN!"
That would be awesome if Colin or Phil sang backup in his solo album or in any Radiohead song. Colin used to sing songs when they were still On A Friday. A very small amount of songs, but he still sang.
@@jonahlouque9621 Colin does a little singing in trans-atlantic drawl & he can be heard humming at the end of coke babies! so, it's not just on a friday
In any other band, the "Ed" would've left after Amnesiac to start a new shitty band and blame the others in the media for not giving him enough credit or space, and the band would've split. Radiohead's Ed is just happy to be there. He's Radiohead's n°1 fan and we all should be grateful.
Ooow c'mon ^^ People will think he's bad. Think about Bodysnatchers' solo, Planet Telex final arpeggi, the double final solo with Jonny on Morning Bell... Also he found Street Spirit riff. And he also has a lot of very good parts, My Iron Lung feedbacks, Climbing Up the Walls... and believe it or not, but Treefingers is actually Ed playing guitar, and the signal being treated by Jonny and Thom. I just wanted newbies not taking this trolling video seriously, but I gotta admit I laughed.
+Barnabé Gauci Not to mention that Ed had a major role in 'Let Down' and plays lead guitar on the live versions of Videotape (for some reason they left it out of the record version). This was still funny though :)
+Asloem A I never did check live versions of Videotape, and God what a guitar line !!! Hope one day they will release this version in some sort of b-sides or rarities compilation.
That was hilarious! For the record we all know Ed is a vital part of the band and he's great at handling things like interviews. This video is obviously a joke and meant to be taken as such.
Without Ed i would not listen to RH today, the song that introduced me to Radiohead was Paranoid android, and it was for Ed's guitar at the "what's thaaat" part. Thanks Ed.
Ed does a lot of cool atmospheric stuff with the guitar. That's what I like most about him and what makes him stand out from other guitarists. He fills the song up with sound to make it feel just right. You don't always realize he's there, but if he wasn't, it wouldn't be nearly as good.
How mean, but i admit i laughed. Nevertheless Ed is the guy who adds the beautiful soundscapes to the songs. Without him the band would be sound much ordinary. & he is fuckin' hot.
Ed is an essential part of the band. He goes where he is needed, whether that is guitar, percusions, background vocals, weird effects etc. A lot of these he was playing background sounds clearly, also a big part of their entire sound that not many people realize. That's why the band works so well together. Too many chiefs and not enough indians is never a good thing.
He's a versatile guy, runs around, play some guitar lines, create ambience stuff, use the codex and other electronic stuffs, write some lyrics, create riffs, percussion, and makes the "EEEEEEEEED" backs.
Okay. Okay... Okay. Are we forgetting that amazing solo he does??!!! The one he does ALL THE TIME??!??! C'mon I'm not gonna take this video seriously until you include his amazing "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED" solo

Once again, he didn’t write Go to Sleep or Street Spirit (both were written by Thom), and he was not acting producing before Nigel stepped in. Many parts that people credit to Ed actually originated from Thom and in some places Jonny.

Its just brilliant how he hears the harmony while soloing. Best fusion player. He is basically shredding over Johnny's harmony. You guys know that Eric Clapton picked up the guitar because of Ed right?

I'm surprised they didn't include his part in House of Cards. Maybe it's cause those pick noises w/ the spring reverb are so important that they really ARE his greatest solo...
He adds texture along with Jonny. He also adds backing guitar and occasionally the lead. Having three guitars is what makes radio head so great sometimes.
Ed ist the best support one can have in a band. Absolutely no ego and highly helpful in completing the picture of sound.
That is the real true!

It's not a signature guitar, strictly speaking.
That guitar is a game changer. Beloved by many in the industry. I want it, as well as a Jonny copy. Now to save $3000 so I can make that happen

Reminds me of Syd Barret
Liam Gallagher did it.
