    She was an amazing singer. No one like her. You will absolutely cry when hearing her sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

    Her version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow takes it to a whole nother level, and her cover of Fields of Gold is even better than the original. She brings the emotion to the lyrics. Listening to her you don't just hear the music, you feel it.

    Thank you Lydia for requesting Eva Cassidy. She was so talented and left this earth too soon. She makes Judy Garland proud when she does “Over the Rainbow” and Christine McVie too when she does “Songbird”.

    Here's another song by Eva Cassidy, if interested. "Eva Cassidy - Fields Of Gold (Live At Blues Alley) (2021 Master)" (by the channel: Eva Cassidy) --This beautiful rendition of "Fields Of Gold" by Eva Cassidy first appeared on her 1996 album, called "Live at Blues Alley." Eva's soulful vocals and unique arrangement breathed new life into this beloved ballad originally recorded by "Sting." Her acoustic guitar and heartfelt delivery made this even more impactful. Even though, Eva Cassidy was sadly overlooked during her lifetime, her fame grew significantly after her passing. She was also one of my mother's favorite singers too. I remember her playing Cassidy records while cooking dinner and singing along with these wonderful tunes. Thank you, Rory, for bringing back some wonderful memories. I was very close to my mom, and I miss her dearly. We lost her to cancer in 2016. Thanks for sharing. peace out~

      @@nancyfranchetto938 "Live at Blues Alley" was released in May 1996. The album was recorded live at the Blues Alley Nightclub in January 1996. It was the last album recorded by Cassidy before her death in November 1996. {Wikipedia}

      My apologies. I didn’t realize you were referring to your mom passing away. My condolences 💐

    Thanks for this. I have a Eva Cassidy recording but never saw her in a video. Uniquely flexible voice. Recently they isolated her voice and made a recording with the London Symphony backing her up. From what I heard, it's well done.

    *Rory.* Thank you 😊 She was a throwback, in the best possible way. One of the singers who led me back to standards and jazz. Gone way too soon. 💔 So glad you appreciated this performance as I suspected you would. 👍 We need to have you do a Mom Picks day!!
    I'm happy to oblige with some suggested Eva tunes 😊
    (Also: You'll see that another Rory subscriber just mentioned Chet Baker ...so a bonus link or two might be coming your way soon. And he will straight up gut you. ❤)

    courtney (below) is absolutely right. You MUST listen to Somewhere Over the Rainbow. And lest you think that all she does is smooth, If you want to hear some serious power, I would suggest you listen to Oh Had I had a Golden Thread, and Blues in the Night. And for some fine blues, Stormy Monday.

    If you want to hear Eva on fire, listen to Stormy Monday and Blues in the Night - She can do jazz, gospel, blues, folk, the whole gamut. For more ballads, try I Know You by Heart. Oh, and her performance of What a Wonderful World is heartbreakingly beautiful, sung at her last concert just weeks before she died.

    Her version of "Bridge over troubled water" and "People get ready"- amazing.
    My Mum loved her too. We had Eva's version of Stings "Fields of Gold" at her funeral 15 years ago.

    Her pianist on this recording said that Eva's key choices were so unusual that he was just guessing how to navigate his solo -- just hoping not to screw it up. He succeeded.

      YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!! Such a badass, and tortured soul.
      You Don't Know What Love Is... Born to Be Blue... ❤
      (I have so many request lists going and have been struggling not to send Rory down the Chet Baker path as well, but now that someone else has brought him up... it's happening 😁)

    Eva’s passing had the Washington DC area mourning for months it seemed. Great voice, but does little for me overall. I always wonder if she lived would I eventually find new material I clicked with. Regardless, like Roy Buchanan and Danny Gatton DC can call them their own. She just happened to have 1/100th the output and made more money posthumously I hope. I used to supervise a Tower Records in the dc area 5-12 years after her passing. She still was selling like hotcakes. … please do more Grateful Dead! I wish I could be a supporter but can’t right now. I hope you’re inundated with GD requests. Oh, and other than doing one tour with the GD Dylan was just friendly with them. There’s one mediocre short track album that really isn’t worth much time. It’s not like The Band where they had an ongoing backup relationship. Dylan spoke incredibly flatteringly of Jerry Garcia for years to come on Jerry’s musical brain and abilities but weren’t buddies even. Also the Dead had a “Dylan slot” for many many years where they’d do Dylan songs in their set. Ok this isn’t Eva talk. Sorry.
