I tried this with my horse once and she literally cut the way back in half, we went through the woods like trees don’t exist, on the fields she was just crazy galloping around in circles for 5 minutes.. it was hilarious and scary at the same time😂

In our area several years ago, a man trailered his horses to the local foothills/timber to ride with his grandchildren. They got lost. and he let the horses do as you did to see if they would get them back. 3 days later the horses brought everyone out safely, but not at the trailer - the horses took the man and his grandkids all the way back to their rural home.
My husband and I got off course just south in Yosemite several years ago. After several wrong turns and frustration, we gave his Walker "his head" and the horse took us right back to the trailer. It was a BIG relief as it was starting to get dark. The horse got extra carrots!,,
Had to let my horse do that a few years ago - we just moved to a new barn 2 days before that, and I got lost in the woods, it was getting dark and I had NO IDEA where where we were. But my horse found his way back super easily and in 20min we were back at the stables. That was fun!
Fun video. I’m not sure if you realized it, but Tucker was so confident and didn’t spook because you let him decide. He was confident because you let him know you trust him. He’s really doing amazing and I love the dynamic you both have together.

Yep, horse got me home once when we were out riding a a very dense fog rolled in and I had no idea where we were, I remembered my grandfather telling me to just give them their head and they will find the way home. Sure enough we made it home in 30 minutes!
I hunt with my horses. If given their head on the way back, they will usually try to make a straight line to the trailer until hitting a dead end. Then they'll usually regroup and follow their previous path. It's quite useful when riding in the middle of the night. You just have to ride, they will find the trailer or camp, whichever one is closer.
I tried this with my horse and she decided that home was in the opposite direction to where it accually is. We got lost and I had to use Google maps to get back 😂 Safe to say I'll be taking us home next time 👍🏻
Some friends try to convince me their horses know the way back; however, I’ve never seen it happen when I’m along. I’m not convinced all horses are great at this.

During a group ride one of my friends got bucked off and the horse took off and ran 4 miles all the way back to the barn. He was standing at the gate when we got back. And I just read in a 1892 newspaper a man rode his horse 14 miles and stepped away from the horse for a moment and the horse took off home with out the man and the horse made it home safely ❤ 🐎
Good boy - I have a Clydesdale - and when he was younger he just didn’t care about going home - he was just like ok I’ll live here then 😂

My little horse is the same. When you turn up to our house he just wants to keep going forward. He is such energetic little monster. Nothing scares him, and he gets angry if someones walk a head of him.
I ride the same trails pretty much every day, with some slight variation. The moment my horse’s nose is pointed in the vague direction of home, that is where he wants to go and that is where he will go if I let him. I actually have to do things like riding past the barn entrance at least a block, then turn around in order to discourage him from running home.
What a great enrichment activity! I wish I could trust my horse to do this 😅
I tried this with my horse and there was a pond and you can see where this is going. We were by the pond and we saw a fox, pretty sure it was a baby and my horse spooked and he ran right through the pond and we were both soaked! Love your videos!
My horse has found his way back many times. They do know where they are...in fact I used to ride a SSH that would find his way to Grandma's on command and she lived in the city limits...she always welcomed him, and he was happy to receive her live and apple.
When my horse and I barely knew each other years ago, I got lost🤣🙄 but after a while, he picked up on it, refused to go forward, and got us home safely. Intuition
About 30 years ago was riding a young horse in a place it hadn't been before. I made the mistake of turning it the wrong way even though I'd been there a couple of times. She knew what way to go. She was "naughty". Ended up letting her go the way she wanted.
I don't have a horse, but my dog knows all the trails in the woods. My husband doesn't, so the dog will take him here and there until he (dog) gets bored and takes my husband back to the car. We can be away from a certain trail for almost a year, and come at it from the opposite direction, but doggo knows where he is.
What a unique video idea! Tucker was so brave on the trails 😊 I always wondered if my Chance really knew the way home (I’ve always theorized he did!)
When I used to trail ride, oh boy did he get upset if I took a detour. BUT before learning the trail good I got lost, and I just let him lead and he took us back 😊

Okay but this is an interesting thing for me because I was thinking about horses that could be trained to go certain routes to serve as transport for my brothers who are mostly blind and therefore can't drive. Horse riding could, in theory, be done with minimal vision, given a bombproof horse, good tactile training for the rider, and experience.
Yes may not be totally safe but a good horse will bring you home even if you fall asleep on it or in the cart. Some of them even know to wait at cross roads until it's safe, which side of the road they should stay on, etc.

As a teenager my friends dad and his mates went out cattle mustering on a huge property of several thousand acres.
Let me just say they are city cow boys and the property was their weekend place.
They got completely lost and it ended up getting dark.
The horses basically waited for the riders to fall asleep then said let’s just go home.
The riders woke up at home some hours later.🤠

Yes horses they remember the way home I remember I had a donkey and any time I got lost he took me home all the time it was incredible I love that donkey it was one in a million 👍💕🌺😍
My pony is barn sour. So she definitely knows how to get back lol. Even the woods we went to the first time last weekend. She even tried to go trial riding Monday when she seen the opening to the new woods lol

I tried this and the horse I was riding kept spinning in circles😂 then he decided it was the opposite way and then he realized and turned around, but he did get us home. His other friend had to guide him a little (me and my friend were in a trial ride)

I have done this before and my mare will bring me right back the way went but my gelding will cut through everything and make a short cut but a painful one me lol 😂

I have a Missouri Fox Trotter, when ever I try the same thing w/ him he can do the job but he responds more to where I'm looking at to were to go.. reins are lose head is free he can go where he wants to.When training him in the arena I'd look @ a post tell him to walk forward free head - reins loose on him mane and he'd walk until his whiskers would touch the post, then I'd look @ another and he would do the same. Unfortunately he's really spooky in the deep wood / tight trails going through the woods open trails in the woods he's pretty good. I remember my Great Grandfather says the when he was peddling meat ( he was a butcher) the horse new the stops and on occasion my GGfather would fall a sleep on the way back (after a 20 hour day) and his horse would bring him home every time w/out an incident, stopping @ stop signs and intersections and such.

I suppose if you always tell the horse where to go, the horse may neglect on recognizing the path. Like if someone who always drives with a gps, he may not know the road if the gps was taken away.
With my cart horse, I can say home on the road, drop the rains and she knows where to go. Just won't stop at stop signs.i live in the heart of amish country and its common for buggy horses

Hi! You should let the movement of the horse jumping place you into the two-point, or you’ll either be rushing the horse or get left behind. I hope this helps!

I think he needs to familiarize himself with the area so he can get more comfortable with the direction that his taking you must tell him Tucker home

now I know that as a totally blind person I would be very safe if I ever could have the opportunity to have a miniature horse as a guide animal for me.
I would appreciate, if you would explain why roaching a horses mane is not cruel and abusive to a horse. The owner of the channel ‘stable horse training’ was sharing his personal opinion about roached manes, banged tails, bare feet and bits etc. He chastised me in a very abrasive manner when I shared with him that my mother in the 70s showed western pleasure and it was the style for QH’s to have a roached mane. In seeing that your horse is roached I thought it might be nice to hear your view as someone who obviously cares about their equine. Thx much.
In my mind, roaching the mane is a more pleasant experience for the horse than pulling the mane. It gives a clean look without causing any harm to the horse. People tend to place human emotions on horses: since humans have an emotional response to their hair being cut, they think horses do as well. The truth is, horses don’t care 😂 Plus the mane will always grow back. In the winter, I let the horse’s mane grow out a bit more for protection against the cold/ elements.

Stable Horse Training is one of the most unpleasant dudes on the horse internet... I used to like him but he got so abrasive it was just ridiculous.
@@lavenderwyvern I agree, I immediately unsubscribed and shared with a bunch of other horse people the video with his crazy response to me for not agreeing with him. It kind of made me wonder how he treats his family or anyone that doesn’t align with his views.

I heard at my barn that 2 people were on a trail ride and then 1 one horse spooked and threw the rider and bolted then the other one started being a bucking bronco both the riders fell off of their horses and the horses galloped back home and went into their stalls 1 of the riders were okay but I think the other one broke a hip, they are okay now though
is his sadlle fitted to him? he seems to have good withers clearance and spine clearance
It’s not professionally fitted, but I did spend ages looking for a saddle that fit him well. He’s a weird shaped horse; has low withers and is a 13.1 hh pony that needs a quarter horse - wide gullet. 🤦♀️ this saddle is very flexible and soft through the frame

My horse can find the way home even when i take her to a new place. well sorta she always trys to go onto private property they have a sign up but no fence but i think she knows the property isn't home and just wants to go down there because she know she isn't allowed... She is just like me but she actually does stuff she isn't meant to do i just think about it
