    I bet you’ll be at 90% come fall! You’re on a mission!

      I think you might be right if the US sources come good. Quite frankly I have nowhere else to go.

    I recognise the slightly dazed look that comes with the "i don't know why i bought these!" I had the same issue with the Ballard books a while back....happens to the best of us. 😂

      Very diplomatically put Jon. I learned that there's a fine line between enthusiasm and extremism, sense and senility. Take yer pick . . . .

    Fantastic haul Kenny, I too would have picked up the Hamiltons at £3 each! Great to see yet more Daws going into your collrction. Ive not picked up anybrecently but am trying not to buy too much just now whilst i sort out recent acquisitions🙂

    • @kennyrh9269
      @kennyrh9269  Před měsícem +1

      Thanks Jules. I'm still convinced that the Hamilton's were a barmy purchase but there you go. Everything else is on hold at the minute while I concentrate on the DAWs but filing them in is a right pain.

    "Flip"' those Hamiltons for a tidy profit, Kenny, ( _especially_ 'Great North Road') and put the proceeds towards more DAWs! 👍😉😁

      Good thinking Paul. At least it would make me look less like a complete madman 🤣🤣

    There is absolutely no rhyme or reason why we collectors buy items at times so no explanation is necessary Kenny. I would have loved to find the Hamilton's at £3 each!
    Hope you enjoy the Coopers when you get round to them. I've decided to read one of the ones I picked up in the recent haul. Decided to start with Jupiter Laughs a short story collection - so far after 4 or 5 stories it's not bad at all.
    I keep saying I know, but the DAWs... wow!, wow!, and wow! I haven't yet succumbed to foreign markets yet (and especially not the US), but I don't need a fortune teller to see that coming in my future sometime too 😁.
    All the best... Peter

      Hi Peter. I still feel a bit unhinged after the Hamilton madness, just for the reasons I mentioned at the start of the vid. Too late now.
      Now that I've finished the entire Elric saga (phew!) I've resolved to take in some authors that I've not read before. Cooper might be a good starting place.
      As far as the DAWs are concerned I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. I've exhausted all the usual suspects in the UK but the US postage makes you wince. I found a guy in New York who does some nice books at reasonable prices but he charges 3 quid a book postage. Still, gotta do it if I'm going to succeed.
      Take care mate Kenny.

    Why buy those sf tomes ? At that price , none should be left behind . Arkhem ...? The DC hottel where you could be chilling with d villians OR the Arkhem where we could spawn all sorts of Lovecraftian horrors 😂😂 .Good luck on the Daw Quest . And in mint or near mint .As i have said else where ,no one did covers like Daw( my bias opinion ) . Sometimes it best to leave the price tag and save the cover from damage . I like how you took a sip from that mug, and then showed the Camelot novel .lol. Thanks for the video .

    • @kennyrh9269
      @kennyrh9269  Před měsícem +2

      You're welcome. Yes those great DAW covers are an added benefit and they really are the nicest looking books from that era (and this one.) Glad you liked the mug touch . . .well spotted.
      I'm still scratching my head about the Hamilton's but I'll get over it. Must admit the DAW project is taking over my life just now. That's why I'm a collector 😱. Or a total madman - take your pick 😄

    I love the Coronet Edmund Cooper books. I've got most of them, but need to complete the collection! I might buy a Peter Hamilton in a few months as he's coming to speak to my SF group. Best wishes.

    • @kennyrh9269
      @kennyrh9269  Před měsícem +1

      Yes those Coronet editions are very attractive. I've always dismissed Cooper over the years but having just read The Tenth Planet I've changed my mind.
      If you're buying a Peter Hamilton hardcover take a strong bag. 🤣🤣

    Nice pickups Kenny. How many more Daws do you need to complete the 580? Do you have all of the first 100 now?

    • @kennyrh9269
      @kennyrh9269  Před měsícem +2

      I have 462 DAWs in hand now and 88 of the first 100. I have some coming from America which will knock me up to 491 and 96 of the first 100. It doesn't look too bad on paper but some of the ones I need are very expensive.

    Kenny, Your Lordship, another fine video and book haul. I love Edmond Cooper, have read many if his books and enjoyed them all. An underrated sf author. He also wrote the 4 Expendables books as Avery, a very good sf adventure pb series. Good luck on your DAW quest. I was trying to complete the first 100 years ago and was just about there when in 2013 Hurricane Sandy took most of my sf and pulp and comics into the drink. I have since rebuilt a bit but i could never replace the loss. I think a lot of older books have become scarce because of those type of disasters. Sad really. Keep up the good work . What DAW numbers do you need?

    • @kennyrh9269
      @kennyrh9269  Před měsícem +2

      Hi Gary. Now that I've completed the entire Elric saga (long job) I resolved to tackle some authors that I've never read. I'm reading Cooper's Tenth Planet at the moment and it's really good so far. I'm glad you stayed positive and enthusiastic after your dreadful experience and, yes, I suppose many old treasures have been lost to disasters and that's a real shame.
      The DAW project has become a life's work for me but I'm still needing these (if my US orders turn up ok):
      21, 41, 43, 88, 101, 108, 124, 126, 144, 157, 170, 174, 183, 184, 186, 192, 206, 218, 224, 225, 226, 235, 238, 241, 260, 261, 265, 266, 282, 286, 291, 294, 313, 321, 329, 333, 337, 339, 340, 342, 343, 347, 349, 351, 356, 359, 375, 377, 380, 385, 399, 407, 418, 419, 421, 436, 438, 442, 450, 456, 459, 463, 466, 474, 478, 494, 497, 498, 508, 514, 515, 523,527, 531, 533, 537, 539, 545, 546, 553, 559, 560, 561, 566, 568, 570, 571, 578, 580. phew !
      Anyway thanks for watching and all the very best Kenny.

      Hi, Kenny, i have 6 DAWs from your list and will send gratis #21, 43, 88, 186, 192, 260. What name and address in UK?

    I lucked into an eBay lot of 32 Andre Norton books for (with a small refund) less than $12. Among them were four DAWs. Spell Of The Witch World (DAW #1) appears to be a first printing.

    • @kennyrh9269
      @kennyrh9269  Před měsícem

      Good find. The 1st printing of that one can be quite tricky. I just bought Merlin's Mirror to complete my DAW Norton requirements.

  • @peterg1646

    What does that UE... book number actually mean? I've got one of those.

    • @kennyrh9269
      @kennyrh9269  Před měsícem +1

      It is a catalogue number that DAW use for their own records. Some reprints have the UE or UQ etc but not all. Many have the sequential number on all printings. I've no idea why.

    • @kennyrh9269
      @kennyrh9269  Před měsícem

      As far as I can determine after some digging I discovered that the UT number (and the other U letters) were an order number for DAWs, presumably for retailers to order. The number apparently appeared on later reprints (where the chronological number would be normally be) when the price of the book changed later on.
      Hope that makes sense and fully answers your query.

    I didn't like "The Grey Prince" at all. To Live Forever" was fairly good, but "The Houses of Iszm" was much better. Judging by the few Jack Vance novels I've read or tried to read, I think his books are either hit or miss, and often miss!

    • @kennyrh9269
      @kennyrh9269  Před měsícem +2

      Fortunately I picked two of his better books to read - Eyes of the Overworld and The Dragon Masters. Can't comment on the rest although I have been looking for the Ace Double featuring The Last Castle. Would like to read that one.
