    The Super Famicom still looks futuristic. Its like an 80s synthpop song that still sounds beautiful, slick and modern. The american SNES looks like my dads beloved 87 Oldsmobile.

    Best console of all time IMO, and also IMO the best console generation. The SNES had Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Final Fantasy, etc. while Genesis had Sonic, Phantasy Star, Streets of Rage, Gunstar Heroes, etc. Even the Neo Geo and TG16 had some awesome games! Long live 16-bit!

    The soda thing definitely played a part in it. My uncle worked at a Nintendo repair shop and they had a pile just for consoles covered in soda and food. If you ever sat on the floor or a couch with your NES next to you, you would see how good of a drink table it would make.

      I've also heard more than 1 repairmen/support team had to tell people that the slide-out cdrom trays on computer towers were _not,_ in fact, coffee mug trays.
      Basically, if it CAN be done, someone somewhere has tried it. Results aren't always pleasant. (Remember the 'don't use lawnmower as hedge trimmer' warning stickers? There's an injury behind that.)

    Upon further research I discovered that the SNES was launched in Australia in 1992, not 1994.
    Mattel handled distribution (as they had with the NES in PAL regions) until 1994 when Nintendo Australia was established, they took over from there. Just thought I'd add that.

    My SNES provided me with sooo many hours of fun! Loved Super Mario World and All Stars. Got TMNT4 for my bday and played it so much. The mode 7 made the hoverboard stage way better than the arcade plus the Shredder fight before getting sent back in time was a very fun fight not in the arcade. Made better sense than getting zapped in time in the sewer. Yoshi's Island was another great game made possible by Super. FX2. Mario RPG was my introduction to JRPGs and was so fun! Street Fighter ALPHA 2 was another game I played to death. Great day was when I picked up Zelda for $15 new at Wal-Mart. I also had the Super Game Boy. Loved it and lots of use of it. The one SGB designated title I had was Mega Man 5. A great Mega Man title that gave us a lot of new stuff like the Stardroids and the Mega Arm. Something I had to protect my games were these clear blue cases my mom bought from the clearance bin at Wal-Mart. They had the SNES logo foil stamped in blue.

I was the poor kid so when i got the super Nintendo from the thrift store in '97, i took care of it like i do with my HD tvs today. Now my prized possessions are my Dreamcast and Original Xbox. Even though I use my Halo edition 360 as my main source of media streeming device. All systems in great condition.

    I always wondered the same thing as well about "why not a Mega Game Gear?" I only recently found out the Genesis was not capable of running it because they made one upgrade to game gear from a master system...a higher color palette, higher than the Genesis in fact. If there were a work around in a cartridge adapter, it probably would have been cost prohibitive.

    Man, I had a Nintendo Power subscription when the first DKC came out and they sent me a promo VHS out of the blue. I got so hyped over it I sold my whole SNES collection (including FF6, Chrono Trigger, Mario Paint, Super Star Wars and a bunch more) to Funcoland to buy that game and the strategy guide.
    Beat at 101% in like 24 hours. Greatest disappointment of my young life. Was a very good lesson about getting on the hype train but at such a price... ;________;

    Great video Adam!
    I'm in the process of making a home made DVD collection of your reviews to watch on TV.
    Yeah, that's how fucking awesome I think you are.
    But just to clarify some things, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System came in Australia in July of 1992 (not 1994).
    And the Genesis (Mega Drive) couldn't support Game Gear software because the Game Gear had a higher colour pallette than the Mega Drive Genesis and the Mega Drive Genesis could only display a total of 64 colours on screen. But as you know they made the Genesis backwards compatible with the Master System software instead and also the Game Gear could support Master System software aswell via a converter.

    • @jackmadden8234
      @jackmadden8234 Před 8 lety +1

      Couldn't they have just stuffed all the hardware for Game Gear (including graphics to circumvent color limitations) into a cartridge, then pass the video signal through the Genesis' video out? I'm pretty sure that's what the Super Game Boy (and later Game Boy Player) did.

    As a kid, I never owned the SNES since I was born near the end of the 20th century.
    In a way, I wanted one mostly for Super Mario World. It was the first Nintendo game that made me love Nintendo, and persuaded me to own this console. Unfortunately, me being the four year old, I couldn't remember what the system called was then. All I remembered fondly was the gameplay, and the iconic tunes lol.
    Luckily, got a N64 w/ some games from GameStop back in the day.
    Quick question, is it worth purchasing the *New* 3DS XL that just came out recently. I've had my DS Lite since 07, and I'm not too sure if it is worth the purchase (PC gamer here..)

Green, Red, Yellow, Blue Yoshis, Mario with a red cap, blue overall, yellow cape (on a green Yoshi). Link wearing a green, blue or red coat in Zelda-ALTTP, F-Zero with a gold, pink, green and blue hovercars.

    I watching all your recap videos again and I'm loving this and the megadrive ones, I feel "at home", that's my "native generation", if that makes any sense. my first console was atari2600, I had a nes, judging by age I should say I'm from the late stage of atari2600 and nes is my native generation, but I feel that the 90s snes vs megadrive console wars was "the main event", I was old enough to fully enjoy it but young enough to still see it with some kind of magical awe. the ps1 and n64 generation happened "too fast" or I already was big enough that it didn't have the "magic of childhood", when people talk about their childhood memories with ps1 (or even ps2!!!) I'm like "huh?? what???? but childhood is nes and snes!!, ps1 and ps2 are new!"). what I mean by "too fast" is that when gamecube and ps2 came out I was like "huh? what? but ps1 and n64 are new! they just came out last year!!...huh? it's been like 5 years already? huh??".
    oh, I haven't felt the "magic" in years, the last two console generations are "meh", I think ps2 and dreamcast were the last "real consoles".
    I think everybody has a "native generation", the one that was the "main one" for them at a certain age.

    Back when I was in high school, N64 was already out and finding SNES games in Blockbuster and pawn shops for dirt cheap was easy. There was a guy that would buy them and play them, then offer to sell them to me for cheap. He was making a profit. He sold me Chrono Trigger and Earthbound for $25....combined. I thought that was kind of cheap and I ask him “so why did you sell those games to me for so cheap?”...He said “oh I still made $15 off them, I paid $5 each for them”....Now, imagine getting either one of those games now for $5 for either of those games. Sadly, I didn’t hold onto those games for too long myself...back then, we didn’t know those games were going to be worth what they are now....

    SNES is my favorite console. So many absolute classics. It was a fun time growing up with the Sega vs. Nintendo wars. I got the console a Christmas mainly because of of Street Fighter 2, which is awesome, but my parents were nice enough to also include a game that I did not ask for and did not know about at the time: Super Mario Kart. Super Mario Kart has since become my favorite game of all time.

    It was wobbly as hell.

    another great vid Adam. i never owned one as a kid, and in fact, i've never owned one ever, tho of course i've played and loved several of the classics.. mario, zelda, sim city, the usual suspects.. but my favourite snes game, and probably my favourite 16 bit game over all, was shadowrun. some people apparently say that the genesis version, which plays quite differently, is actually better, but i haven't played it yet, so cant comment on that. growing up, my friend round the corner had a snes, and i would of course going round, i remember the audio being so impressive, i think that impressed me even more than the graphics.. but i never felt tempted to trade in my mega drive for a snes. the thought never even occurred to me. and i still don't feel i have the time or space to have a snes in my life.. tho to be honest, i will be getting into several of the rpgs via the DS.
