Its been on our SUP bucket list for a while now but our first family SUP camping adventure has definitely got us wanting more!
With the perfect weather window approaching and Izzy desperate to do some camping, we planned our first family SUP adventure. It would involve a one way paddle route with an overnight beach camp spot. We took all our food and equipment with us, leaving nothing but footsteps in the sand along the way.
We hope this inspires you to try your own family SUP adventure. It has definitely made us realise that there are so many more adventures to be had as a family with a SUP!
Remember :
Start off small with a short distance.
Paddle an area that you know well.
Do your research - understand your tides (if on the sea) and weather conditions.
Stay in your comfort zone and plan for every possibility and exist route. This is very important especially when paddling with kids!
Tell other people where you are going and your plans and route.
Take your time and enjoy every moment.
We also tracked our paddle on the GeoSUP app.
It also has a great function allowing you to 'Share your location' with others, so they can watch where you are live at any point on your adventure. A great safety feature too.

We do live in an amazing place but its crazy how many places get over looked. Including inland waterways and lakes too.

As a bikepacker with a little bit of kayak experience I was drawn to your film and loved every minute. I've taken my boys camping for the last few years and would love to try taking to water in the future. Wonderful stuff 👍🏄

Hey Paul. Yes good weather. Board wise.. As you know we have a load of boards here to choose from but we weren't that worried about going that fast and I really love the bungees and setup of these boards. Means I could take more fishing stuff lol. Thanks Reuben

I love this. Inspires me to do this with my daughter. Just need to work on her fear of open water.
Take your time and be positive around her. Let her jump off the board and climb back on. After a while she will become more confident. Thanks Reuben
Thank you for this inspiring video! We tried SUP for the first time some year ago and plan to finally buy us some own boards now. So far I have dragged my kids on hiking and camping in the Swedish and Norwegian mountains and forests but it would be lovely to try SUP camping! Your adventure looks like a perfect family adventure!

Wow! I'd love to do this. I've just ordered my first ISUPB today - iRocker All Rounder 11' so maybe one day I'll be able to. I live in Northampton but will be on holiday in North Devon in August & can't wait to get out & have a paddle board adventure. Where about were these beaches? Looks great. 👍🏻

Where could I find a child paddle like your daughters ‘? My youngest one has the same size as yours and it’s difficult for her to manage a big one !
We are really glad its inspired you and the family to get out there. It was so much fun and a trip that we will not forget.
Paddle wise, We have been playing around with a few paddles for Izzy and the latest paddle she is enjoying is actually an Aqua Marina carbon paddle three-piece. We have just removed the middle section to make it shorter, but she loves it because it's very light and easy to move around. The downside is the blade size is still too big for her but she doesn't seem to mind. We look forward to seeing carbon/glass paddles for kids on the market soon with smaller blades. But at least this way adults can still use the paddle as well if they add the middle section back in. Thanks Reuben

Hey Kristin, Yes a River or lake SUP could be a great option. Take your time, plan lots of stops and remember it doesn't have to be that far. Maybe just paddle somewhere for lunch to start off. Thanks Reuben

@@SUPboardermag It was such a cool trip! I already started planning my exploration paths for the summer, although without st ying over night. We only paddled a couple of times, so don't really know our abilities. And we don't have compact camp gear, so maybe next year, but still. It was a great inspiration to start planning

Yeah we are lucky because we have a few boards here at work. But I did pick theses ones because of the reasons I said in the video. We might go for another paddle soon, but unfortunately we haven't got the irockers anymore so we will give some other boards a go. Thanks Reuben

Excellent video. So many excellent memories for your family. I would like to plan something similar and I am wondering if you bring your pump and repair kit, just in case. Seems like it would take up a lot of space.
Its always a good idea just incase, depending how long and how far away from other paddlers (with pumps) are. I just strap the pumps on externally on top of the dry bags exposed to the elements because they don't take up that much space that way. But you have them if needed then. Thanks Reuben

Looks awesome, I want to sup on the coast but I get worried I can't get back to shore , need some advice on it
Don't go too far away from the shore and make sure to prepare and read the forecasts. Lots of safety information coming out on our channel about this!
